Mauro Ranallo Returning to Pro Wrestling Commentary for MLPW – Mauro Ranallo is making a return to the world of professional wrestling. Known for his extensive background in combat sports commentary, Ranallo has previously lent his voice to WWE and NJPW broadcasts. He served as the lead announcer for WWE SmackDown from 2015 to 2017 before taking a break, eventually returning as the commentator for NXT from 2017 until 2020.
Ranallo made a brief return to wrestling in April 2021, where he called the title vs. title match between Kenny Omega and Rich Swann at Impact Wrestling’s Rebellion pay-per-view. Prior to this, he had also engaged in discussions with Major League Wrestling (MLW) about potentially calling their events.
Ranallo’s latest venture will see him taking on the role of lead commentator for Scott D’Amore’s newly established Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling (MLPW) promotion. During an interview on “Insight with Chris Van Vliet,” D’Amore revealed that Ranallo has agreed to be the voice of MLPW, expressing his excitement about securing one of the best cross-genre announcers in combat sports.
D’Amore stated, “I think we have one of the very best. I think indisputably the best combat sports cross-genre announcer because Mauro Ranallo has agreed to be the voice of Maple Leaf Pro.”
MLPW is set to launch in October, with its debut shows, titled “Forged in Excellence,” scheduled for October 19 and 20 at St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The shows will feature a lineup of talent including Raj Dhesi (also known as Jinder Mahal), Konosuke Takeshita, El Phantasmo, Josh Alexander, Gisele Shaw, KUSHIDA, Alex Zayne, Kevin Knight, Jake Something, Trevor Lee, and Kylie Rae. The events will be broadcast on TrillerTV.
D’Amore also shared that he first met Ranallo nearly 25 years ago in Stampede Wrestling, where Ranallo portrayed a heel character in a feud with Sabu. He praised Ranallo for his deep passion for wrestling and his exceptional skills as an announcer.
