Fresh off his victory over Solo Sikoa at SummerSlam, Rhodes took to the ring to address his plans for WWE Bash in Berlin. The Bloodline, led by Sikoa, interrupted the champion, with Sikoa demanding a rematch. However, Rhodes denied the request, stating that Sikoa hadn’t earned the right for another shot.
As tensions rose and The Bloodline prepared to attack, Kevin Owens ran in to save Rhodes from the ambush. Following the confrontation, Rhodes expressed his desire to face Owens at the upcoming Bash in Berlin event. Owens initially declined, arguing that he hadn’t earned a title shot and that others were more deserving. Despite this, Rhodes insisted, citing Owens’ unwavering support in his battle against The Bloodline.
Later in the show, Rhodes and Owens met with SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis to finalize the match. While Aldis mentioned he was still considering Roman Reigns for a title opportunity, he ultimately confirmed that Owens would indeed challenge Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WWE Bash in Berlin.
