Mercedes Mone Addresses Fans Labeling Her as an ‘Unsafe Worker’ – Mercedes Mone recently addressed the criticism she faced for being labeled an “unsafe worker” following a WWE live event in December 2017. During a six-woman tag team match, Mone inadvertently hit Saraya (formerly known as Paige) in the neck, leading to the match being stopped due to Saraya’s injury. This incident was particularly significant because Saraya had previously been sidelined with a serious neck injury and was later medically retired due to spinal stenosis. She made a return to in-ring action in 2022 after being cleared.

While speaking with HOT 97, Mone opened up about the emotional toll the incident took on her. She said, “I was so depressed by it….that definitely sent me on a spiral of depression because wrestling has always been my biggest goal and dream, and I’ve always wanted to be the greatest at it. So to hear any kinda noise that people might not think you’re safe, it wasn’t even the boys in the back; it’s just the fans thinking you’re not safe. It’s scary sometimes, but that’s the business that we’re in. You never know when you’re gonna get hurt or when you’re gonna sprain something, break a neck, break a knee; it’s just business. You have to go out there knowing that you’re gonna put your life on the line, but we do everything we can to protect each other, and unfortunately, that happened.”

Mone was also asked about her transition into acting and shared that it was like pulling teeth with WWE to get on The Mandalorian show.

Mone said, “Acting, I really didn’t see it coming because I didn’t know how those doors of opportunities were going to come, especially in WWE. I love WWE, but they tried so hard to not make me do The Mandalorian and put me on house shows when I was supposed to film. It was pulling teeth just to get on that show, just to be a part of that show, so with these new doors of opportunity here at AEW, I have all the time in the world to go do acting and more. Tony will pick me up on the private jet to take me to the shows and back to the other show to film. So it’s so beautiful, it’s so cool that I get these new doors, and I feel like it’s just the universe being like, ‘We want you to be this beautiful superstar that we see you as.'”

Mone was then asked which career she would like to follow: The Rock, John Cena, or Dave Bautista.

Mone said, “I know it’s hard cuz everyone’s successful. They’re all kind of in their own league but doing the same thing, so I just want to be Mercedes Mone. Being the first woman to do it like the men are doing, like The Rock, John Cena, and Dave Bautista, I don’t look at just one of their careers; I would love all of them and more.”
