Backstage News on the Angle That Wrote Ricochet Off WWE TV – Ricochet is slated to leave WWE, with his contract set to expire as soon as he tests out the free agent market, with the expectation that he’s AEW-bound.
However, that doesn’t mean WWE didn’t want to keep him. It was reported last week that Ricochet had given his notice to WWE, leading to him dropping the WWE Speed Title to Andrade before wrapping up his time in the company on Monday’s Raw.
The fan favorite star was written off the television when he was tossed into a WWE production truck and smashed through the windshield of a car by Bron Breakker. WWE later updated fans with a statement, noting Ricochet suffered multiple upper body injuries and will be out of action for an undisclosed amount of time.
There was talk at Raw about Ricochet making one more appearance for the company so that WWE could maximize the situation. This is because he has time left on his deal and has gained buzz among fans.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE didn’t want to lose him, and because people can change their minds, “the angle was done to give him a great reason to return if he had second thoughts.”
It was said that the company had ideas for him about whether he would stay and ways to write him out. The belief remains that he’s on his way out.
