Tony Khan Reportedly Disappointed with WBD Offer

Tony Khan Reportedly Disappointed with WBD Offer – Although Tony Khan has maintained a strong public front regarding AEW’s TV rights deal with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), which expires at the end of this year, it is reported that he feels disappointed with the current offers on the table.

As previously reported, both AEW and WBD have not yet finalized a new deal, but an exclusivity window between the two entities remains open through the summer. If an agreement is reached, an official announcement is likely to occur in the summer or fall. In a recent interview, Khan expressed confidence that a deal would be completed.

The broader context includes the potential loss of NBA rights by WBD, with CEO David Zaslav expected to evaluate other content properties, including AEW. Matt Belloni of Puck News reports that Zaslav and TNT Sports head Luis Silberwasser are interested in retaining the five hours of weekly AEW programming across TNT and TBS, which includes Dynamite, Rampage, and Collision.

Belloni further noted, “The clock is ticking. I’m told the exclusive window closes in July, and AEW leader Tony Khan is said to be disappointed with the offer currently on the table.”

Despite his disappointment, Khan expressed optimism at the Double or Nothing press conference, stating, “I’m happy working for Mr. David Zaslav and I’m hoping we can do it for a long time.” Should WBD not secure NBA rights, it could potentially increase AEW’s leverage, allowing them to negotiate a more favorable deal.
