Tony Khan Addresses Potential Expansion of AEW Dynamite to Three Hours

Tony Khan Addresses Potential Expansion of AEW Dynamite to Three Hours – There has been some speculation that AEW could extend Dynamite into a three-hour show, as over the last few months, there have been three-hour blocks of AEW programming featuring Rampage airing immediately after Dynamite or Collision.

The speculation is that Rampage would be nixed and Dynamite would be expanded into a three-hour program. AEW’s TV rights deal expires at the end of this year with Warner Bros. Discovery, with an exclusivity window between AEW and WBD that goes until July.

While speaking with CBSSports.com, AEW President Tony Khan discussed the possibility.

He said, “You want to keep Dynamite as strong as possible. You look at the history of what happened with the two-hour wrestling show when that show was expanded to three hours. It’s interesting right now per hour the most we get per hour for any of our TV shows is Dynamite. Either way, five-hour weekly programming is the absolute minimum.”

Khan added, “So in some ways, you would say, ‘That would be a very lucrative opportunity.’ I think it’s a very interesting conversation to have about how many nights a week you allocate to programming. Is five hours the best? Should we do six? I want to do at least five now. I’ve tasted blood and want more so I could easily be sold on doing more than five hours of programming.”

A Puck News report this week noted that WBD CEO and President David Zaslav and TNT Sports head Luis Silberwasser would like to keep the five hours of AEW programming per week on TNT and TBS with Dynamite, Rampage, and Collision. For the latest on the talks, click here.
