Clarification on Jerry Lawler’s Contract Status with WWE – There’s been a clarification regarding Jerry Lawler’s contract status with WWE. While initial reports suggested that his contract with the company had lapsed, WWE has since reached out to PW Insider to clarify that Lawler is still under a Legends deal with WWE. This means that Lawler is still associated with WWE, although the specific details of his role may have changed.
What did lapse, however, was Lawler’s broadcasting contract. Lawler served as a commentator for WWE for many years and was occasionally featured on pre-show panels before premium live events. Despite this change in his broadcasting role, Lawler remains connected to WWE through his Legends deal.
Lawler’s last appearance for WWE occurred during an episode of Raw in Memphis last year. Prior to that, he attended the Hall of Fame ceremony to witness the induction of his close friend, Andy Kaufman.
This clarification provides a more accurate understanding of Lawler’s current relationship with WWE, emphasizing that while his broadcasting contract may have lapsed, he is still part of the WWE family through his Legends deal.
It’s certainly not out of the question that WWE will bring Lawler in to make cameos in the future, especially when they are in Memphis (as they did when WWE was there in March), but for the first time in decades, Lawler is no longer truly contractually bound to the company, which even a year ago, would have been absolutely unthinkable.
