WWE Scaling Back Use of Augmented Reality Content on WWE TV

WWE Scaling Back Use of Augmented Reality Content on WWE TVPWInsider reports that the company will be “pulling back” use of the augmented reality content that has been featured on WWE RAW and SmackDown. Johnson writes that the plan is to occasionally like it, probably at premium live events, but it will not be utilized nearly as often. Johnson cites one source who noted that the April 12 episode of SmackDown was believed to be the last time it would be regularly used.

WWE has been using augmented reality for some time now, especially as part of superstars’ entrances, such as the “Big Time Becks” image for Becky Lynch and an animated version of Roman Reigns.

PWInsider previously reported that WWE would be pulling back on using larger-scale sets at television tapings and instead favoring smaller set-ups, as seen over WrestleMania weekend, in order to pack more fans into venues. Per Johnson, part of these changes will see the company reduce the amount of staff and equipment for lighting and production purposes and production trucks used at events.
