WWE Offers Lucrative Deals to Prevent Talent Departures – The wrestling landscape witnessed a fierce battle between WWE and AEW in 2019, igniting a competition for top talent. Both companies vied for skilled wrestlers, offering lucrative contracts amid a climate of financial backing and increased opportunities for talent.
During that time, WWE pursued numerous wrestlers, offering substantial, long-term deals. However, the subsequent COVID-19 pandemic led to the unexpected release of several signed talents. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson were illustrative examples, almost joining AEW before opting to stay with WWE, only to be released during the pandemic.
Fast forward to the present, as both WWE and AEW negotiate new television deals for 2024, WWE is once again actively securing talent, aiming to retain those on their roster and attract free agents. Despite missing out on signing Will Ospreay, WWE successfully brought back CM Punk, who had been released due to a backstage altercation with Jack Perry at All In.
According to insights shared by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is currently offering substantial contracts to prevent talent from departing. Meltzer highlighted that there is significant movement within WWE as they strive to retain their talent pool, offering enticing deals that surpass previous compensation for many individuals, not limited to CM Punk but extending to other potential signings.
“There’s a lot of movement in WWE right now as far as they don’t want anyone leaving,” Meltzer stated. “And there’s a lot of people who are being offered very big money that is besides just [CM Punk], but other people who are being offered very big money, much more than they’re making to stay.”
