Eddie Kingston Wins NJPW Strong Openweight Title – Eddie Kingston won the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship, defeating KENTA at NJPW Strong Independence Day.

The finish saw Kingston kick KENTA in the face twice as he waved Kingston on. Kingston would hit a spinning back fist followed by a northern lights bomb to score the pinfall victory.

Kingston first made his promotional debut on the November 27, 2021, episode of Strong by teaming with Jon Moxley to face Minoru Suzuki and Lance Archer in a Philadelphia Street Fight.

This past May at NJPW Resurgence, Kingston issued a challenge to whoever is the Strong Openweight Champion for a future title shot. He later announced at Dominion he would be competing in the upcoming G1 Climax.

KENTA held the title for 44 days after beating Hikuleo for it at Resurgence.

This marks the first reign as NJPW Strong Openweight Champion for Eddie Kingston. KENTA won the title at NJPW Strong Resurgence, but made zero successful title defenses.
