Two Big Title Matches And More Announced For WWE Backlash – A big Triple Threat for the United States Title has been announced for WWE Backlash.
It was announced during tonight’s SmackDown that Backlash will see WWE United States Champion Austin Theory defend against Bronson Reed and Bobby Lashley in a Triple Threat.
Coming out of WrestleMania 39 Week, Lashley and Reed have feuded on RAW. The two fought to a double count out on the April 10 RAW, then Lashley defeated Theory in a non-title match by DQ on the April 17 RAW, due to an attack by Reed. Backlash will mark Theory’s first TV title defense since retaining over John Cena to kick off Night 1 of WrestleMania 39.
Also, tonight’s show saw a backstage segment featuring Zeilna Vega asking a title shot at Rhea Ripley. While we didn’t get any further info, it is confirmed by the graphic below that the match will take place at Backlash.
It should also be noted that the official Backlash page on WWE.Com, also lists an unexpected Omos vs. Seth Rollins.
This will be the first-ever singles match between The Architect and The Nigerian Giant, and their first real interaction. There was no reason given for why this match was made and there is no history between Rollins and Omos and nothing hinted at on TV or social media to explain why that match was made.
Omos has not been seen since his win over Elias on the April 3 RAW After WrestleMania, which came just one day after his loss to Brock Lesnar in the opener to Night 2 of WrestleMania 39. Rollins, who defeated Logan Paul on Night 1 of WrestleMania 39, has wrestled just one match since then, and that was a win over The Miz on this week’s RAW.
The 2023 WWE Backlash Premium Live Event will take place on Saturday, May 6 at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Below is the current announced card:
