Triple H Commits WWE to Further Original Programming Away from the Ring

Triple H Commits WWE to Further Original Programming Away from the Ring – Naturally, as a chief content officer for the WWE, Triple H’s focus is on creating and presenting the product of live wrestling entertainment. Since 2002, the company has also been involved in making and producing TV shows and movies that have nothing or very little to do with pro wrestling.

These creations have varied from straight-to-TV movies to franchise-expanding flicks – like their first movie, The Scorpion King. Some of these have allowed their superstars to perform beyond the WWE banner for entertainment seekers, even providing a launch pad for acting careers – where the physical rigors are much less.

After their latest release became a success in Mexico and Latin America, Triple H has reaffirmed his commitment to producing more non-WWE content, with Becky Lynch primed to be the next big star catapulted into Hollywood.

More success and launching Becky to Hollywood

WWE Studios have been making content beyond the WWE for over two decades, but following the success of the television series Against the Rope (Contra Las Cuerdas to its Spanish-language audience), Triple H has only reinforced the company’s commitment to scripted shows and movies. Up next, however, is a documentary that features superstars Bianca Belair and Montez Ford.

Of course, most WWE Studios’ creations are centered on its existing talent. John Cena got his start in 2006’s The Marine, while The Rock was the star of the studio’s first three flicks – The Scorpion King, The Rundown, and Walking Tall. Dave Bautista is perhaps the biggest active Hollywood star to hail from the WWE and not get their own WWE Studios flick.

Next to break out from the WWE and into Hollywood just might be Becky Lynch. Already one of the most popular features of the WWE, the studio has given her a platform with The Marine 6: Close Quarters – which also features Shawn Michaels and The Miz – as well as in a voice-acting role in Rumble, with Roman Reigns. She was also reportedly set to feature in a post-credits scene in the MCU’s Eternals, but the scene was cut.

Somewhat of a mixed bag at the movies

For the WWE, the pro wrestling events and weekly shows will always be the focus and main source of income, so it makes sense that WWE Studios doesn’t get a massive budget or even much involvement in potential critical hits. One of the standouts, however, is Fighting with My Family, which is based on a documentary about Norwich, England-born WWE superstar Paige, and her rise to the top.

The light comedy sits with a 68 out of 100 critic score on Metacritic, which isn’t bad, and a 7.2 from the audience. At the other end of the spectrum is a flick that attempted to add to and even revive a horror series. Nowadays, most people know leprechauns as cheery, gold-loving creatures like the one in the Rainbow Riches slot. Through its happy chirps, you can trigger a few cheery features to try and reach the end of the rainbow and its gold.

In the 90s, however, Leprechaun twisted the Irish folklore beings into murderous, greedy things to be feared. Starring Warwick Davis and, somehow, Jennifer Aniston, a whole series was born from the B-movie. In 2014, the WWE wanted in, casting Hornswoggle as the titular beast in Leprechaun: Origins. Unfortunately, the consensus is that it took its premise too seriously and ranks as the worst Leprechaun in the series by Syfy.

While WWE Studios doesn’t always create movies or shows that dazzle critics or fans, Triple H says that the company will remain committed to producing this kind of content beyond the square circle.
