Riho will challenge for the gold. The former AEW Women’s World Champion has picked up several wins in recent weeks. She defeated Toni Storm on the March 1 episode of AEW Dynamite before she beat Emi Sakura on the March 3 episode of AEW Rampage. Riho then defeated Nyla Rose on the March 10 episode of AEW Rampage.
During the March 27 episode of AEW Dark: Elevation, commentator Matt Menard stated that Riho was the number one contender for the AEW Women’s World Championship, and she will face the reigning champion, Jamie Hayter, on the April 5 episode of AEW Dynamite in Long Island. He subsequently noted that it would be a title match. Riho went on to defeat Diamante in the main event of the March 27 episode of AEW Dark: Elevation.
Hayter previously defeated Riho on the October 26 episode of AEW Dynamite. Riho beat Hayter on the December 8 episode of AEW Dynamite in 2021, so their upcoming bout will be the rubber match.
