WWE SmackDown Results (3/17) Kansas City, MO

3/17 WWE SmackDown Preview

WWE SmackDown Results (3/17) – We are live from the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri, as Cody Rhodes makes his way to the ring to start the show.

Big ovation for him and the crowd chanted his name.  He asked Kansas what they wanted to talk about as they were on the last few weeks to Wrestlemania.  He said tempers have flared but he has the utmost respect for Roman Reigns.  He’s the greatest champion in sports and sports-entertainment alike.  He looks forward to seeing him at Raw and to beating Roman at Wrestlemania.

Cody said he wants to talk to someone tonight and called out Kevin Owens to come to the ring.  Owens came to the ring but Cody said the conversation also involves another party.  He called out Sami Zayn to join him.  Cody said he was going to peel the curtain back.  He has a deep level of love and respect for Owens.  When Cody exited WWE, he left with a confidence that didn’t really exist and needed someone to help, had his back and helped him to learn and network.  He said Owens introduced him to some friends and it changed and bettered his life and he can’t repay that.

But, he said that he wants to have THAT conversation between them now.  Owens said he’s heard everything Sami has to say.  Sami said he hasn’t heard everything Owens had to say.  He said over the years, they’ve turned on each other and done unthinkable things to each other but always found a way back together but this time it’s different and they haven’t done it.  Zayn said that if Owens has something to get off his chest to say or wants to punch him in the face, do it so they can get back together and work together.  Owens said he heard Sami and asked Cody if he got what he wanted.

Cody mocked that and said they both know they are in the service industry.  It’s about what the fans want.  Every single fan wants to see them back on the same page. Kevin asked why would he fight for someone who doesn’t want to be his friend.  He thanked Cody for trying to do this but said he was all set and walked to the back.

Rhea Ripley & Dominik Mysterio walk into a commercial.

– Back from the break and we see Kevin Owens leaving in the back parking lot. Sami Zayn runs out to stop him. Sami says forget what he said about The Bloodline and all that… Sami says they are friends, always have been and always will be, they are brothers. Sami says if Owens never wants to talk to him again, that’s fine, but he loves him. Owens gets in his car to leave, then speeds away. Sami is looking for Owens to turn around, but he doesn’t.

Santos Escobar and Zelina Vega vs. Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley

We go back to the ring for mixed tag team action as The Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley are out first. We see how The Judgment Day beat Legado del Fantasma in six-man action last week. Out next comes Legado’s Santos Escobar and Zelina Vega, and they are ready to fight.

The bell rings and Dominik dropkicks Santos from the side, then mounts him with punches. Escobar fights back with flying forearms, and right hands of his own. Ripley runs in and Escobar catches her kick. Vega tags in and leaps off the top with a plancha while Escobar holds Ripley.

Vega plants Ripley face-first into the mat with a hurricanrana. They go to the floor but Escobar takes Dominik out at ringside. Vega climbs up and hits a moonsault to Ripley on the floor. Legado returns to the ring and Vega poses on top of Escobar’s shoulders. Back to commercial.

Dominik mounts Escobar with rights now. They run the ropes and Escobar nails a dropkick. Escobar with the leg drop backbreaker for 2 as Ripley makes the save. Ripley slams Dominik on top of Escobar for 2 as Vega breaks the pin up just in time.

Dominik works Escobar over, but stops to taunt Vega. They go at it again and collide in the middle of the ring. Vega and Ripley tag in at the same time and they go at it. Vega counters with a big tornado DDT for 2 as Dominik pulls Vega off Ripley to boos. Escobar with a big jumping knee to Dominik. Ripley sends Vega to the floor. Escobar has Dominik up top but Ripley assists for the big slam to the mat.

Vega comes back in and nails a crossbody to Ripley, then a knee to the face. Vega goes to the middle rope and hits a hurricanrana on Dominik. Ripley comes from behind and slams Vega with Riptide for the pin to win.

Winners: Rhea Ripley & Dominik Mysterio

After the match, Ripley and Dominik stand tall as the music hits. We go to replays. Dominik takes the mic but boos drown him out. He says your WWE Hall of Famer is nothing but a disrespectful deadbeat of a father, who was never there for his son. We see Rey Mysterio on the big screen now, walking backstage. Fans pop and chant “Rey!” as we go back to commercial with Dominik looking on as Ripley hypes him up.

In the Arena:

Rey came out and asked Rhea to give them a minute alone.  Dominik said that now that they are in the ring, he wants to talk.  Rey was never there for him and now he wants to take Dominik’s Wrestlemania moment from him.  He said Rey was a coward.  He told him he was a piece of sh…but Rey stopped him and admitted he wasn’t the best father and missed birthdays and Christmases but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have all the love in the world for him.

He said that he made sacrifices so that his mom, his sister and Dom could have the life that he could only dream of.  Everything that he owns.  Everytime the Mysterio name bailed him out of trouble.  He asked Dom to hear him out because he’s having a hard time dealing with all of this.  He’s being inducted into the Hall of Fame and would love nothing more than to have Dom standing with him on stage.  Rey said that maybe it’s too late for that but his biggest regret is who Dom has become.  He said he’s an ungrateful, pathetic punk-ass kid and if someone like that called him out for Wrestlemania, he would gladly beat their ass.  The crowd chanted, “Beat his ass.”  Unfortunately, Dom is his son and fighting him would be the biggest disgrace as a father.    He said he won’t fight Dom now or at Wrestlemania.

Rey went to walk out and Dom mocked him as a future Hall of Famer walking out.  He’s doing all he taught Dominik how to be, a scared little man.  Rey stopped in the middle of the aisle, thinking.

Winners: Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan

– We see the confrontation between Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley on SmackDown last week.

– Charlotte Flair makes her way to the ring as we go to commercial.

In the Arena:

WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte came to the ring.  She said the more things change, the more they stay the same.  When she was a kid, the business was built on Rhodes as a challenger, Flair as champion and now in 2023, Wrestlemania is built on the same.  This is her seventh Wrestlemania.  She’s either been the champion or the challenger but she’s always been the star.  She promised the same for this year.

Rhea Ripley came to the ring.  She said she chose Flair for a reason.  Flair is staring her down without fear in her eyes and that pisses Rhea up.  She’s the Smackdown Women’s Champion for a reason.  She’s 14x Champ for a reason.  She’s one of the biggest stars in WWE and she can give her all the credit in the world.  She wants and need the title.  She bloody needs to be a star.  She’s going to learn to call Rhea champion and she’s going to learn to fear her.  Dom got in Charlotte’s face, allowing Rhea to nail Flair with a cheap shot.  She told Flair she will see her at Wrestlemania.

Fans boo as Ripley and Dominik exit the ring. Flair gets up, runs around the ring and clotheslines Ripley, then rams her into the barrier and beats on her. Ripley fights back as officials rush down to try and restore order. Flair hits the ring post hard and clutches her nose, but then she sends Ripley into the barrier. They brawl back on the floor, then to their feet. Flair decks a security guard, then nails a running big boot to Ripley. Ripley keeps fighting and tosses Flair over the announce table. Security holds Ripley back but Flair leaps off the announce table and takes them all down. The brawl continues against the barrier as officials try to restore order. They tumble over the barrier into the crowd now. They’re finally kept apart but still taunting each other as fans pop. Flair stands in the ring and raises her title in the air. Ripley looks up at her and smiles, then licks her lips.

Backstage:

Kayla Braxton interviewed Sami Zayn.  He said it was kind of  a heavy night.  One guy who considered him a brother just drove off.  The other who used to call him a brother is looking to take him out.  Maybe he brought all of this on himself, so fine, it’s to deal with it.

– Xavier Woods makes his way to the ring as we go to commercial.

Xavier Woods vs. LA Knight

They showed footage of Knight mocking Xavier and Madcap Moss for playing the game earlier so Woods challenged him to a match.  So, this is all a promotional segment for the game.

Woods looked good early, including a nice missile dropkick as well as some power moves for a near fall.  Knight sent him into the buckles and nailed a neckbreaker.  Knight drilled him face-first into the mat for a two count.   Woods used the dreaded small package out of nowhere and scored the pin.

Winner: Xavier Woods

– Results for 3/17 WWE SmackDown will continue after a commercial break.

Backstage:

LA Knight was mad at the loss.  He saw Rey Mysterio signing autographs and offered to fight Dominik for him.  He said he’ll give him an LA Moment and will be a Deadbeat Dad too.  Rey decked Knight with a big right hand, then speaked in Spanish and walked off. A shocked Knight wondered what the hell Rey just said.

– We see recent events between Drew McIntyre and Sheamus.

Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus

Drew McIntyre and Sheamus are ready for a fight night but before they can put hands on eachother, Imperium’s music hits and they make their way to the ring. We go to commercial.

GUNTHER joins commentary. Some good, hard hitting action early as they batter each other.   Lots of back and forth strikes and chops.  Sheamus nailed The Irish Curse.  Sheamus went to drill him across the chest but Drew blocked.  They battled back into the ring.  Sheamus went for White Noise but Drew elbowed him to escape.  Sheamus drilled Drew down in the corner and went to the top rope.  They battled on top until Drew nailed a superplex.  Neither man was able to capitalize as they went to commercial.

After the commercial, Sheamus took down Drew for a two count.  They battled to the apron outside, where Sheamus began battering Drew’s chest.    Sheamus missed The Brogue Kick, allowing Drew to nail a neckbreaker.  Drew set up for The Claymore Kick but was kneed in the face and almost pinned.

They battled to their feet and throttled each other at the same time with a Claymore and Brogue.  The referee was about to count them both out but GUNTHER got in the ring and stopped the count.  He asked them who was it going to be who fought him at Wrestlemania.  Imperium attacked Sheamus and Drew and took them out.

No Contest

GUNTHER powerbombed Sheamus atop Drew and walked out. Adam Peace appeared on the screen.  GUNTHER wanted a single competitor at Wrestlemania but now he’s given Adam no choice.  It will be a Triple Threat match at Wrestlemania 39.

In the Arena:

In the main event segment, Sami Zayn came out to confront Jey Uso.  Zayn came out and said this is what he wanted, so how does Jey want to do this.  They went face to face in the ring.  The fans chanted “Ucey.”  Jey said he has a job to do.  From day one he didn’t like or trust Sami and didn’t want him around his family, but week after week, they started liking you.  Jimmy did.  Solo liked him.  Wise Man liked him.  Roman liked him.  But, his job is to protect his family and the one time he let his guard down for someone he thought he loved him, Sami let him down and embarassed him in front of the entire world.  He called him brother and this is how he was repaid.  He said Sami was, from day one, was a Fake Ass Uce.  He said he has no choice.

Sami said that is wrong.  He chose to take Roman’s abuse every week.  He keeps choosing it.  Sami chose not to take it.  He thinks Jey is at himself and is just mad he wasn’t the one to hit Roman with a steel chair first.  He told Jey he had a choice.  The fans chanted, “You’re not Ucey.”  Jey lost it and attacked Sami.  They brawled.  Jimmy hit the ring and beat him down two to one.  They smashed Sami into the ring steps.

Kevin Owens’ music hit and the Usos looked for him to come out but Owens hit the ring from the crowd and fought with them before cleaning house.    He and Sami looked at each other and hugged.  Kansas went nuts for this.

Backstage, Cody Rhodes watched on a monitor, completely pleased by this turn of events.
