Former NJPW Star Receives New Name Ahead Of WWE TV Debut

Former NJPW wrestler Karl Fredericks will make his WWE TV debut on tonight’s episode of NXT Level Up.

Fredericks is now going by the name “Eddy Thorpe” and is slated to wrestle Dante Chen on the episode that will air on Peacock at 10 p.m. Eastern time. The match was taped this past Tuesday night before NXT.

Fredericks, who departed from NJPW last August, was seen at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida in September before he started training last month. He made his WWE in-ring debut on January 20 at a house show, attacking Axiom and laid him out after Axiom defeated Oro Mensah in singles action.

WWE’s official NXT Level Up preview noted, “Thorpe is an intriguing newcomer who has competed all over the world and has a chance to turn heads if he can defeat his fellow veteran, Chen. Chen is 6-3 in his last nine matches on NXT Level Up, having most recently picked up a hard-earned win against Kale Dixon.”
