WWE Teases Character Change For Two Veterans

WWE Teases Character Change For Two Veterans – This week on Main Event, there was a serious segment between veterans Shelton Benjamin and R-Truth.

Benjamin asked Truth if he knows why he (Shelton) takes things so seriously. He said that he used to be just like Truth and he’s already had his fun. He said that veterans told him to take things seriously because he may never get another big opportunity.

Benjamin listed some of the titles he’s held and before he left he said, “I used to be the Gold Standard Shelton Benjamin but now I’m just Shelton.”

Benjamin and Truth began teaming last week and internally they are listed as a tag team so whatever is happening here appears to be a long-term thing.

Benjamin was first signed by WWE in 2000 and for the early years of his career, many believed that he could be a future World Champion. He is a former Tag Team, United States, and Intercontinental Champion but he was never pushed as a top star. Benjamin had somewhat of a resurgence when he was part of The Hurt Business but for the most part, he has been used on the undercard since his return to WWE in 2017.

Truth debuted with WWE in 1999 as K-Kwik and wrestled for TNA and independent promotions from 2002 until his return to WWE in 2008. He is also a former United States and Tag Team Champion and he has been branded as a dependable wrestler who could do anything asked of him. Aside from a couple of brief storylines where it was teased that he would be moved up the card, he has been mostly an undercard comedy act for WWE.

It looks like WWE is going to hit the reset button on both men with a serious storyline. You can see the segment below (via WWE’s Ryan Pappolla).
