Matt Hardy recently shared his belief that AEW president Tony Khan shuffled the deck and delivered an excellent edition of AEW Dynamite coming out of All Out.
At the pay-per-view, the company crowned a new world champion when CM Punk defeated Jon Moxley. In the post-show media scrum, Punk took several shots at The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, which reportedly led to a physical confrontation between the two sides. Though exact details remain unclear, Punk, Omega and The Young Bucks have reportedly been suspended due to the incident. Omega and the Young Bucks had won the AEW World Trios Championship at the pay-per-view, so a substantial portion of AEW’s title picture has been substantially affected by the controversy.
On the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Hardy and co-host Jon Alba discussed AEW All Out and the subsequent episode of AEW Dynamite. On Wednesday, Khan announced that the AEW World Championship and the AEW World Trios Championship had been vacated. The company crowned new trios champions on Wednesday, while the new AEW World Champion will be determined through the Grand Slam Tournament of Champions. Speaking of these changes, Hardy noted that AEW did a complete “refresh” coming out of All Out.
“It certainly took a lot of people by surprise, too, especially because we did a complete refresh on the Dynamite that was gonna follow that week because we reset our champions,” Hardy said.
The conversation continued, as Hardy and Alba reflected on the eventful episode. Hardy spoke highly of the show and noted hat it was “fantastic.”
“I think considering they almost erased the blackboard and started from scratch, and I thought they had a hell of a show tonight,” Hardy said. “I thought Dynamite was fantastic.”
Overall, the veteran praised the way that Khan shuffled the deck and delivered a great episode of AEW Dynamite.
“I just thought that Tony Khan did a good job reshuffling the deck and giving a great Dynamite tonight,” Hardy said. “It’s gonna be really interesting to see what the rating ends up being. Because I would imagine there was so much buzz on AEW all week, and buzz is buzz, and it makes a lot of people want to tune into AEW so in very curious of what kind of numbers it did last night, and fortunately the show was a great show too.”
