Triple H Putting More Focus On Secondary Titles

Triple H Putting More Focus On Secondary Titles – Tonight on WWE SmackDown, Gunther successfully defended his Intercontinental Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura. Gunther won the match clean and it felt like an old NXT-style match.

WWE, under Triple H, is now putting more focus on the secondary titles and they have been airing videos to put over the importance of the titles. Before the main event, they aired a video that showed many of the previous IC Champions including Bret Hart, Pedro Morales, Pat Patterson, Tito Santana, Mr. Perfect, and others. The announcers put over the IC Title as the “working man’s title.”

They also teased a future IC Title contender during tonight’s show. During a backstage promo, Ricochet said that he wants a shot at the title in the near future. He was cut off when he got attacked by Happy Corbin so it looks like that title shot will happen sometime after his feud with Corbin.

WWE is also putting over the United States Championship as a big deal. This past Monday, before Lashley defended against Ciampa, they aired a video showcasing some of the legendary United States Champions and Ciampa dedicated the match to Harley Race. This coming Monday on Raw, Lashley will defend his title against AJ Styles.
