Sheamus is the new number one contender for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
On tonight’s 1200th episode of WWE SmackDown, a fatal five-way match featuring Ricochet vs. Happy Corbin vs. Madcap Moss vs. Sheamus vs. Sami Zayn was contested to determine who will challenge Gunter for the Intercontinental Championship at WWE Clash at the Castle.
Sami Zayn received outstanding ovations from the Montreal crowd until he was taken out of the match with an apparent shoulder injury. Zayn would return to try and steal the win over Ricochet, however Corbin yanked Zayn out during the cover. Sheamus was ultimately the one to score the pinfall victory over Corbin and will now compete against Gunther for the first time ever.
This bout will be the first time the Intercontinental Championship gets defended on a premium live event since WWE WrestleMania 37 in 2021.
Below is the updated lineup for Clash at the Castle:
- Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
- WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship: Liv Morgan (c) vs. Shayna Baszler
- WWE Intercontinental Championship: Gunther (c) vs. Sheamus
- Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss & Asuka vs. Bayley, Dakota Kai & IYO SKY
- Riddle vs. Seth Rollins
WWE Clash at the Castle will emanate from Cardiff, Wales, on September 3. We will have complete coverage of the event as it airs.
