In what can be called a shocking surprise, Daniel Garcia defeated Bryan Danielson to cap off an excellent edition of AEW Dynamite.
Throughout the match, Garcia was put over as a legitimate threat and they put over that Danielson may not have fully recovered from his head injury. In the final minutes of the match, a hand from under the ring apron prevented Danielson from getting in the ring. Garcia took advantage and attacked Danielson and then forced him to submit to the sharpshooter.
This was Danielson’s first match since suffering an injury in the Anarchy In The Arena match at Double Or Nothing on May 29.
Tonight’s show felt like the start of Tony Khan’s movement to elevate some names that haven’t been getting as much TV time in the last couple of years. After the match, Jake Hager revealed that it was his hand that stopped Danielson. The show ended with Hager and Garcia celebrating with Jericho.
Some of the names that were put over very strongly tonight include Powerhouse Hobbs, Ricky Starks, HOOK, Sammy Guevara, Dante Martin, Skye Blue, Tay Conti, Anna Jay and Jungle Boy.
