Alex Sherman from CNBC is reporting that tonight’s script for WWE SmackDown has been torn up and Vince McMahon will appear in character to talk about his temporary absence.
It was clear from the press release that was sent out earlier that he would be “in character” because he was referred to as simply “Mr. McMahon.” WWE announced earlier today that Vince would be stepping down temporarily during the misconduct allegation investigation. Sherman adds that the writing team is currently working on the new script for tonight’s show.
The news of Vince’s allegations and his stepping down has been picked up by several major media outlets, including CNN and The Associated Press, among many others.
Speaking of tonight’s SmackDown episode, Roman Reigns is set to defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship tonight against Riddle. This will be Reigns’ first title defense since he unified the WWE Championship and the Universal Championship by defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38. It’s also Reigns’ first appearance on WWE programming in several weeks.
WWE has also announced a Last Laugh Match between Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss.
Also tonight, Max Dupri is set to unveil the first client in his Maximum Male Models stable.
As of Friday morning, here is the lineup announced for tonight’s show:
- Mr. McMahon will appear
- Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match: Riddle vs. Roman Reigns (c)
- Last Laugh Match: Happy Corbin vs. Madcap Moss
- Max Dupri to reveal his first client for Maximum Male Models
