It looks like a former WWE superstar has signed with AEW and is likely to debut tonight at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view.
Fightful is reporting that AEW has filmed Blood and Guts promotional material with Claudio Castagnoli (former WWE star Cesaro). This also pours a ton of fuel on the rumors that he will be at tonight’s pay-per-view as Zack Sabre Jr.’s mystery opponent. Danielson said last Wednesday that the mystery man would be joining the Blackpool Combat Club and he would be wrestling in the Blood and Guts match on Wednesday.
Castagnoli makes a ton of sense as Danielson’s replacement because they have years of history. Castagnoli also has a history with William Regal. In fact, Regal’s last TV match was against Castagnoli and there were tons of references to Castagnoli in the “MOX” book so he and Jon Moxley are also close friends.
It was reported on Saturday that Castagnoli has been seen training at the Flatbacks Wrestling School in Orlando in preparation for his in-ring return. Since leaving WWE in February, Castagnoli has kept a low profile and he has declined to take independent bookings. It looks like fans will see him again very soon. If not tonight then definitely on Wednesday on the Blood and Guts episode of Dynamite.
