The field for the first-ever NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament continues to fill out.
Last week, Arianna Grace, Sloane Jacobs, and Kiana James were the first three Superstars announced for the tournament. During tonight’s Spring Breakin’ episode of NXT, Fallon Henley and Tatum Paxley were also revealed to be taking part. Matches will commence next Tuesday, May 10, with the eventual winner being granted an NXT Women’s Championship opportunity.
Henley debuted on NXT in September and has recently aligned herself with Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs. Paxley made her in-ring debut in February and only has five matches to her credit. She recently challenged Natalya to a match as a way of recapturing the attention of Ivy Nile and Diamond Mine.
There have been two men’s tournaments previously, with Carmelo Hayes winning the most recent edition. He used his victory as a platform to capture the NXT North American Championship.
The Women’s Breakout Tournament seems to be WWE’s reimagining of the Mae Young Classic. WWE held two back-to-back Mae Young Classic events in 2017 and 2018.
