Roderick Strong was originally slated to team with Damon Kemp to face off against NXT Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly on Tuesday’s episode of WWE NXT 2.0.
However, despite being advertised, it was revealed in a backstage segment during the show that Strong had rolled his ankle during training and the bout was nixed.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he was told “Strong is okay and this will be added to the Diamond Mine storyline.”
As previously reported, Strong has asked for his WWE release ‘multiple times’ over the last few months. However, WWE doesn’t plan on releasing him due to current creative plans. At the time, many in the company were surprised that he wasn’t included in the last round of releases due to his demand of being let go.
It’s expected Strong will join his former Undisputed Era teammates, Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish, in AEW once he’s free and clear of WWE. Cole has publicly indicated that Strong would be welcomed into AEW if he left WWE.
