RULETA DE LA MUERTE TOURNAMENT – 1ST ROUND: Ultimo Dragon vs. Pentagon Jr. (with Fenix & Taya)
A quick note about the Ruleta de la Muerte tournament if you’re just tuning in. 8 masked luchadores will wrestle in a series of matches where the losers will advance to a final, one-on-one Mask vs. Mask match at the final Triplemania XXX event.
This is Ultimo Dragon’s first match in AAA since 1996 as he’s been aligned with rival promotion CMLL for much of his career.
Pentagon with the “Cero Miedo” taunt to start. Dragon retaliates with a slap and a head-scissor takedown to briefly ground Pentagon.
Pentagon gets back to his feet and the two men trade multiple arm-drags. The exchange ends in a staredown.
Pentagon backs Dragon into the ropes with some punches and starts trying to rip at Dragon’s mask. Dragon reverses a whip into a head-scissor takedown and Pentagon goes outside. Dragon goes out to the ring apron, but Pentagon pulls him down to the floor with him.
Pentagon throws Dragon into the ring post and rolls him back into the ring.
A kick to the head in the corner sends Dragon crumbling to the mat. Pentagon tries to come off the second rope but Dragon is ready with a dropkick.
The two men trade chops and kicks in the center of the ring. Dragon gets the better of the exchange and gets a 2-count.
Pentagon regains control and tries to set up Dragon for his arm breaker. Dragon is able to power out of it and delivers a kick to Pentagon’s head.
Dragon tries a cradle, but Pentagon reverses it and gets a near fall.
Pentagon catches Dragon with a kick. Pentagon charges into the corner but Dragon sends Pentagon over the top rope to the entrance ramp. Dragon climbs to the top rope and hits a cross body to Pentagon on the elevated entrance ramp.
Dragon sends Pentagon back into the ring. Dragon charges into the corner but Pentagon catches him and places him on the top rope. Dragon creates a little space and comes off the top rope with a destroyer to Pentagon.
Dragon hits the Asai DDT and pins Pentagon.
Ultimo Dragon defeats Pentagon Jr. via pinfall
Dragon and Pentagon shake hands after the match and Dragon pays his respects to Marisela Peña at ringside.
AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship: Tay Conti & Parka Negra vs. Sexy Star & Komander vs. Maravilla & Latigo vs. Arez & Chik Tormenta (c)
Dombrowski says Guevara is not 100% as a result of his ladder match on last Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite.
Octagon Jr. was being promoted as Sexy Star’s partner, but it’s Komander tagging with her instead.
Sexy Star is also known as “Sexy Star II” to make it clear that she is NOT the original Sexy Star that fans may remember from Lucha Underground.
Guevara has a crutch with him during his entrance. After he and Conti make their entrance, Guevara points to the stage and Parka Negra enters to fill in for Guevara as Conti’s tag partner.
The AAA mixed tag team champions Arez and Chik Tormenta now make their entrance. There was speculation before the show that they could be added to this match and that is indeed the case.
Conti and Tormenta start out and start trading forearms in the middle of the ring. Conti caps off the exchange with a German suplex and a running knee strike.
Conti tries a dive over the top rope, but Tormenta catches her and rams Conti into the ring post.
Maravilla steps into the ring now to face Komander. Maravilla hits a running dropkick to a seated Komander and gets a 2-count.
Komander comes off the top rope with a springboard into an arm drag. Parka enters for Maravilla and hits a springboard headbutt from the second rope. Sexy Star breaks up the pin attempt.
Sexy and Parka are in the ring now. Sexy avoids a spinning heel kick and sends Parka out of the ring. Arez charges in with baking sheets and starts beating on Sexy Star.
Arez, Tormenta, and Latigo now triple-team Sexy Star. But the alliance is short-lived. Arez and Tormenta double team Latigo for a 2-count.
More competitors enter the ring. Komander and Sexy Star double team Parka. Sexy hits a tornado DDT on Parka. Komander goes to the top and rope walks before hitting a moonsault on Parka for another 2-count. Parka rolls out of the ring.
Latigo and Maravilla enter and double team Sexy Star. They double-team Komander too. Latigo hits an X-plex on Komander for a 2-count.
Komander dodges a double-team attempt and Latigo and Maravilla share a brief romantic moment. Komander uses that opening to clear Latigo to the floor. Komander walks the top rope and dives on Latigo on the floor.
Tormenta and Sexy Star face off in the ring. Sexy appears to be charging at Tormenta but ends up diving to the outside. Tormenta follows with a dive of her own.
Conti winds up for her own dive but Parka Negra stops her. She tags him and Parka hits a springboard moonsault to the outside. Conti finally goes to the top rope and hits a somersault dive onto a group of luchadores on the floor.
Arez and Maravilla are now on the top rope and Arez hits a Spanish Fly to Maravilla from the top rope onto the group of luchadores on the floor.
Arez and Tormenta hit a pair of double stomps onto Conti and Parka but they either kick out or Guevara interrupted the referee’s count.
Guevara comes into the ring and stars clearing house on Arez and Tormenta. It appears he’s not as injured as we were led to believe.
Guevara superkicks Tormenta. Conti hits the Tay-KO and they get the pin for the victory!

RULETA DE LA MUERTE TOURNAMENT – 1ST ROUND: L.A. Park vs. Villano IV
This is the same Villano IV some of you may remember from WCW. L.A. Park is the original La Parka some of you may also remember from WCW.
Villano is waiting for Park on the entrance ramp and they start brawling right away. Villano hits a DDT on the ramp. Park staggers toward the ring but Villano catches him and takes a few more shots before tossing Park into the ring.
Villano whips Park into the ropes and catches him with a back elbow. Villano rams Park’s head into the turnbuckles and follows up with some stomps.
Villano uses a top wristlock to take down Park in the middle of the ring and starts tearing at Park’s mask.
Park’s mask is badly torn and Villano stomps him as both men head outside the ring. Villano gets a steel chair and cracks Park in the back and the head. Villano follows with some headbutts and another chair shot to the head of Park.
Park tries to retreat over the barricade and Villano pursues him into the crowd. They are brawling deep into the sea of fans. Park is bleeding. Villano steers him back toward ringside and into the ring.
Back in the ring, Villano bites Park’s head. Villano hits some knees to Park’s head. Villano continues to tear at Park’s mask and forehead.
Park is flat on his back. Villano mounts him and rains down with punches. Park tries to get back to his feet, but Villano puts him back down with a single punch.
Villano follows up by ramming Park’s head into the turnbuckle. Park’s mask is almost completely off. Villano covers for a 2-count.
Park tries to fire up but the referee gets in his way by preventing him from throwing a closed fist and Villano retakes control. Villano is battering Park with punches and Park can barely stay on his feet.
Villano covers Park but pulls up Park before the referee can finish his count.
The referee again gets involved to prevent a closed fist by Park. This time Park fights loose and starts to rally. They spill to the floor and Park hits Villano with a steel chair. Park clotheslines Villano over the barricade.
Park starts tearing at Villano’s mask and headbutts him. Another chair shot by Park to the head of Villano.
The crowd is solidly behind L.A. Park.
Park props up a board or table at ringside. He pulls Villano back into the ringside area and powerbomb Villano through the board.
Park headbutts Villano on the floor. Both men are now bleeding.
Park and Villano get back into the ring. He covers him but Villano kicks out at 2.
Villano reverses into a DDT, but Park kicks out at 2.
Villano gets another steel chair and hits Park in his leg. Villano slams the chair down on Park’s leg a couple more times with the chair.
Villano hits a low blow while the referee’s back is turned but Park kicks out at 2 for a big near fall.
Villano argues with the referee and Park hits his own low blow and rolls up Villano, but Villano kicks out at 2 for another big near fall. Park ties another cover, but Villano kicks out.
Park and Villano trade punches from their knees. That leads to another 2-count on a cover by Park.
Park climbs to the top rope. Villano pushes the referee into the ropes and Park crotches himself. That gets a 2-count.
Villano goes for a figure-four leglock. Park catches him in a rollup and gets the pin!
L.A. Park defeats Villano IV via pinfall
Fans are throwing money into the ring after the match, a tradition in Lucha Libre after a match they enjoyed.
Park and Villano shake hands and raise one another’s hands after the match.
AAA owner Dorian Roldan is out now to present a plaque to Latin Lover, who is a native of Monterrey.
Latin Lover begins to address the crowd but he is interrupted by La Empresa’s Jeff Jarrett, Rey Escorpion, and Karen Jarrett.
Jarrett has a microphone and is jawing at the crowd and even gets into the face of Marisela Peña, seated at ringside.
Jarrett gets in the ring and forces the ring announcers to translate for Latin Lover as Jarrett runs down his very long list of career accomplishments.
Karen Jarrett gets the mic and calls the fans “dirty basura”.
Latin Lover has heard enough and takes off his jacket. Jarrett calls Latin Lover a “dirty, filthy, grimy Mexican” and Latin Lover takes a shot at Jeff Jarrett. Rey Escorpion takes down Latin Lover.
Now here comes Vampiro making a big entrance and going after Jeff Jarrett and rescuing Latin Lover!
Karen Jarrett tries to turn the tables on them, but she’s thwarted. Latin Lover grabs her and gives her a kiss. Jeff Jarrett returns to brawl with Latin Lover some more.
Order is finally restored and Vampiro and Latin Lover celebrate in the ring.
We’re ready for our next match. Jack Cartwheel makes his entrance. He is the surprise participant for this next match.
Dragon Lee & Dralistico vs. Taurus & Johnny Caballero vs. Laredo Kid & Jack Cartwheel
Johnny Caballero is the former John Morrison from WWE.
Dragon and Laredo face off and start trading strikes. Laredo catches Dragon with a dropkick.
Dralistico and Cartwheel now enter the ring. Cartwheel finds his way into a head-scissor takedown.
Johnny enters and takes down Cartwheel, but Johnny slips going to the top rope and misses Cartwheel coming back in.
Laredo steps in and goes after Johnny. Taurus enters and he and Johnny try a double suplex on Laredo, but Cartwheel catches Laredo and they spill outside the ring where a brawl breaks out involving everyone in the match.
Johnny and Taurus send Laredo back into the ring and hit a double team. Johnny hits a standing shooting star press for a 2-count on Laredo.
Dralistico enters the ring and gets the better of Taurus. Dralistico springboards into a hurricanrana on Taurus.
Laredo enters and backs Dralistico into the corner. Laredo hits a springboard dropkick to Dralistico.
Johnny enters to face Laredo and plants him with a spinning crucifix bomb.
Cartwheel attacks Johnny from the ring apron but Dragon enters to go after Cartwheel.
Cartwheel tries a moonsault from the top rope but Dragon catches him. Taurus enters and hits a reverse sling blade on Dragon. Taurus follows with a Samoan drop.
Taurus charges but runs into a double team by Dragon and Dralistico. Cartwheel enters and Dragon and Dralistico get the better of him too.
Dragon and Dralistico hit stereo flip dives over the top rope onto Taurus and Cartwheel.
Laredo and Johnny are now in the ring. Laredo takes down Johnny and then hits a springboard tornillo to the floor onto the rest of the participants. Johnny follows with his own five.
Back in the ring, Johnny gets a 2-count on Laredo.
Laredo plants Johnny with a Michinoku driver. Laredo climbs to the top rope, but Taurus is already there. They stumble off the top rope and Taurus plants Laredo with a sit-out driver.
Dragon enters and takes out Taurus. Cartwheel gets in the ring but gets hit with a destroyer by Dralistico.
Dragon chases Taurus out of the ring and then hits hurricanrana which takes Taurus from the ring apron to the floor.
Cartwheel hits a space-flying tiger drop over the top rope to the outside.
Back in the ring, Laredo and Johnny fight over Johnny’s water gun. Johnny hits a low blow and rolls up Laredo to get the pin.
Taurus & Johnny Caballero defeat Laredo Kid & Jack Cartwheel and Dragon Lee & Dralistico via pinfall
RULETA DE LA MUERTE TOURNAMENT – 1ST ROUND: Rayo de Jalisco Jr. vs. Blue Demon Jr.
There was a famous Mask vs. Mask match in Monterrey in 1989 between the original Blue Demon and the original Rayo de Jalisco. Rayo lost and was unmasked. This is a sort of tribute to that match (*Thanks for the history lesson, Cubs Fan). Rayo Jr. is the original Rayo’s son. Blue Demon Jr. is described by some as the “adopted son” of the original Blue Demon.
Joe Dombrowski informs us that this is Rayo Jr.’s first-ever match at a Triplemania.
Demon tries to out-quick Rayo but catches a hard shot to start. Rayo backs Demon into the corner and lands some chops and punches.
Demon fires back with punches. He whips Rayo to the turnbuckle and follows with a running elbow. Demon tears at Rayo’s mask and slaps him in the face.
Demon finds a baking sheet and a hammer at ringside and brings them into the ring. Demon hits Rayo in the head with the sheet. Demon also has a chain. He wraps it around his hand and goes outside the ring where he punches Rayo in the head with it.
Rayo is bleeding. Blue Demon continues to attack him at ringside. Demon chokes Rayo with the chain and bites Rayo’s forehead.
Back in the ring, Demon hits Rayo with the sheet again. Demon picks up the hammer. The referee takes it away.
Demon props the sheet up in the corner and rams Rayo’s head into it. Rayo tumbles outside the ring but finds another baking sheet and hits Demon with it. Demon shakes it off and wraps Rayo’s arm around the ring post.
Demon gets Rayo back in the ring and covers him for a 2-count. Demon chops Rayo in the corner. He whips Rayo across the ring and follows with a clothesline. Demon charges again but Rayo reverses. He gets a 2-count.
Demon kicks Rayo right between the legs. He covers but only gets a 2-count.
Demon goes to pick up Rayo but Rayo hits a low blow of his own and covers for a 2-count.
Demon and Rayo trade shots in the middle of the ring. A whip leads to a sunset flip by Demon for a 2-count.
Rayo catches Demon in an abdominal stretch. He uses it for a pin attempt but Demon kicks out.
Rayo hits a hard chop in the corner and a bodyslam. Rayo goes to the second rope but his headbutt is met with a pair of boots by Demon. That gets a 2-count.
Demon climbs to the top rope. Rayo pulls him down and gets a 2-count.
Rayo lands a leg drop for a 2-count.
Demon catches Rayo and goes for a Sharpshooter but Rayo powers out. Rayo looks to put Demon in a surfboard, but music plays, and Cien Caras makes his entrance. Dombrowski reminds us that Rayo Jr. unmasked Cien Caras 30 years ago.
Members of Cien Caras’ family try to attack Rayo, but Rayo gets ahold of a guitar and clocks Demon in the head with it and that gets the pin. It appears Cien Caras’ attempted interference backfired.
Rayo de Jalisco Jr. defeats Blue Demon Jr. via pinfall
Cien Caras’ family attacks Rayo after the match. Dombrowski identifies them as his sons and nephew.
Demon is lying nearly motionless in the middle of the ring during all of this. Medical personnel place Demon on a backboard and they carry him backstage. Cien Caras’ family members take some shots at Demon as he’s carried away.
Pagano, Bandido & Taya vs. Cibernetico, Andrade El Idolo & Deonna Purrazzo
Pagano vs. Cibernetico is the key feud heading into this trios match between two mismatched teams. Taya is the AAA Reina de Reinas Champion. She won the title from Purrazzo at Impact’s Rebellion pay-per-view last weekend.
Deonna and Taya start out with some shoves. Taya fires off some forearms and an arm drag. Deonna powers out of a waist lock and takes down Taya. A crisscross leads to a spear by Taya.
Cibernetico sneaks in while Taya is posing and gets a shot in on Taya before Pagano gets into the ring.
Pagano gets a side headlock on Cibernetico. Cibernetico shoves him off and works on Pagano’s arm for a moment. A whip leads to a shoulder tackle takedown by Cibernetico.
Pagano fires up and runs down Cibernetico. A clothesline also puts down Cibernetico. Pagano poses and walks into a powerslam by Cibernetico.
Cibernetico lays in some chops. Pagano responds with chops of his own. They trade punches. Cibernetico goes low with kicks to take control but Bandido tags in and hits a springboard dropkick to Pagano.
Now, Andrade is in the ring to face Bandido. A double overhand chop by Andrade knocks down Bandido. Bandido fires back and they race into a standoff. Rain is now falling in Monterrey.
Bandido creates some space and hits a moonsault from the top rope onto Andrade. Andrade quickly recovers and sends Bandido outside the ring and everyone else gets in the ring and starts brawling.
Andrade brings a table into the ring and props it up in the corner. Andrade lifts Bandido and drops him on the top turnbuckle. Andrade charges Bandido and misses and goes tumbling outside the ring. Bandido follows with a dive. Bandido superkicks Andrade on the floor.
Pagano and Cibernetico are now brawling into the crowd.
Pagano gets back in the ring and Deonna wants to fight him. She slaps Pagano but Pagano responds with a shot that rattles Deonna. Andrade steps in and clotheslines Pagano over the top rope.
Taya enters the ring and hits a clothesline to take down Deonna. Taya hits a curb stomp but Deonna kicks out at 2.
Taya and Deonna collide in the middle of the ring. Andrade and Bandido try to cover them but both women kick out.
Andrade and Bandido square off again and trade forearms. Bandido ducks a shot and hits a knee but Andrade responds to take down Bandido and get a 2-count.
Andrade charges into a press slam by Bandido. Bandido climbs to the top rope and hits a frog splash. Andrade kicks out at 2.
Andrade moves to the ring apron. Bandido goes to the top rope and hits a hurricanrana that sends Andrade all the way down to the floor.
Pagano and Cibernetico are now brawling in the ring. Pagano lifts Cibernetico and plants him a nasty-looking driver. That gets a 2-count.
Cibernetico goes to the floor and Pagano follows with a suicida elbow. Pagano starts setting up a half-broken table at ringside. Latigo has snuck his way out to ringside, carrying a fire extinguisher.
Deonna grabs Bandido by the hair and holds him up for Andrade. Andrade charges, Bandido moves and Andrade kicks Deonna in the face.
Andrade goes to pick up Bandido but gets him with a pop-up destroyer. Bandido climbs to the top rope and hits a moonsault to the floor onto Andrade and Deonna.
Pagano and Cibernetico are again in the ring together. Pagano climbs to the top rope. Latigo makes his move and sprays the fire extinguisher at Pagano. Pagano falls from the top rope onto the table at ringside. Latigo sprays the referee too.
Andrade, Cibernetico, and Deonna raise their arms as if they have won this match. However, the referee has called for a disqualification.
Pagano, Bandido & Taya defeat Cibernetico, Andrade El Idolo & Deonna Purrazzo via disqualification
Pagano appeared to be a little shaken up after the match but walked out under his own power.
RULETA DE LA MUERTE TOURNAMENT – 1ST ROUND: Psycho Clown vs. Canek
Canek is a legend and one of the biggest Lucha Libre stars ever. He’s also turning 70 in June.
Lockup to start. Psycho goes for a couple of pinning attempts but Canek escapes easily.
Psycho misses a splash in the corner and then runs into a back body drop by Canek.
Psycho recovers with a dropkick that sends Canek outside. Psycho tries a dive to the outside but Canek avoids it and Psycho crashes into the barricade.
Ringside personnel rush in to check on Psycho, who appears to be in a bad way. Canek comes out to get him and rams Psycho into the ring post and sends him back into the ring.
Canek rips the top off of Psycho’s mask and rains down punches. Canek gets a chair and smashes Psycho right in the head.
Back outside the ring, Canek continues to attack Psycho with headbutts. Canek clotheslines Psycho over the barricade. Canek rams Psycho’s head against the barricade. Psycho tries to charge at Canek but gets back body dropped over the barricade onto the chairs at ringside. Canek gets in the ring and starts to pose.
Psycho gets back in the ring but walks right into a suplex by Canek. Canek drops an elbow and covers Psycho for a 2-count.
Canek takes down Psycho with an arm drag and locks on a submission hold. Psycho will not quit and Canek releases the hold.
Psycho delivers a low kick and lands a running forearm in the corner. Psycho with a low dropkick to Canek seated in the middle of the ring gets a 2-count.
Canek again goes outside the ring. Psycho follows with a dive that at least partially connects. Psycho gets a baking sheet and slides a wooden board into the ring. Psycho hits Canek with one of the sheets.
Psycho sends Canek back in the ring and starts to rip at Canek’s mask. Psycho gets a steel chair and hits Canek right in the head.
Psycho props the wooden board up in the corner and spears Canek into it. Psycho covers but Canek kicks out. Canek is now bleeding.
Psycho climbs to the top rope. Canek cuts him off and tosses him off to get a 2-count. Psycho charges into a no-look back kick by Canek.
Music starts to play and Dr. Wagner Jr. enters. Wagner attacks Psycho with a baseball bat while Canek looks on. Canek drops an elbow and pins Psycho Clown to get the win.
Canek defeats Psycho Clown via pinfall
Dr. Wagner Jr. continues to attack Psycho Clown after the match. Wagner poses, and Psycho gets back to his feet but before he can attack Wagner, Andrade El Idolo runs down to the ring and cuts off Psycho Clown. Andrade rips off Psycho Clown’s mask.
Dr. Wagner Jr. proposes an alliance with Andrade El Idolo and Andrade accepts. They then double suplex Psycho Clown through the board propped up in the corner.
To recap: Psycho Clown, Blue Demon Jr., Pentagon Jr., and Villano IV are the four luchadors who must face the next round in the Ruleta de la Muertes tournament.
Hijo del Vikingo & Fenix vs. The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) (with Konnan)
This is the first match for Fenix since he suffered a gruesome arm injury on January 5. Fenix just returned on last Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite. This is also Hijo del Vikingo’s first match since March 19.
Konnan accompanies The Young Bucks to ringside.
Vikingo and Nick start out and they lock up. Nick backs Vikingo into the corner. Vikingo ducks a chop and hits a springboard hurricanrana. Running kicks into the corner by Vikingo.
Vikingo stands on top of a ring post, hops down to the top rope, and springboards into a dropkick to Nick.
Matt tries to sneak attack Vikingo and Fenix and gets a double dropkick for his troubles.
The Bucks act like they’re gonna walk out on this match. They make it all the way to the stage and head backstage. After a few moments, they come back out. Fenix and Vikingo charge at them but run into a pair of superkicks.
The Bucks get Vikingo back in the ring and hit a double-team neckbreaker. They follow with a combination bulldog-dropkick on Vikingo.
Fenix jumps into the match and hits some kicks on the Bucks. A double knuckle lock leads to a double springboard arm drag by Fenix.
Konnan gets involved and the referee throws him out.
The Bucks run into a double superkick by Fenix and Vikingo on the ramp.
Vikingo walks across a full section of the top rope and hits a twisting dive to the floor on the Bucks. Fenix follows with his own rope walk into a splash.
Back in the ring, Vikingo hits a 450 Splash on Matt for a near fall. Nick manages to hit his slingshot X-Factor on Vikingo. Vikingo manages to send both Bucks to the floor and hits a shooting star press from the top rope onto the Bucks on the floor.
Back in the ring, Vikingo’s top rope dive is avoided and the Bucks retake control. Fenix springboards into a double superkick by the Bucks.
The Bucks put Vikingo on Fenix’s shoulders. Nick hits an assisted dropkick to Vikingo that causes Vikingo to hit a poison ‘rana on Fenix for a near fall.
Matt powerbomb Vikingo for a 2-count. Matt puts Vikingo in the Sharpshooter. Fenix tries to rescue Vikingo but Nick puts him in a Sharpshooter too.
Fenix and Vikingo get to the ropes to break the holds. Nick back body drops Fenix, but Fenix lands right on Matt and takes him down with a hurricanrana.
Fenix misfires with a superkick and hits Vikingo. The Bucks head to the entrance ramp to set up Vikingo for the Meltzer Driver. Vikingo escapes and rolls back into the ring. Fenix walks the ropes and kicks Matt in the head. Vikingo dives on Matt. Fenix follows with a Muscle Buster on Nick for a big near fall.
Nick and Fenix trade punches in the center of the ring. Nick kicks Fenix and Vikingo between the legs.
The Bucks hits Fenix with the Lucha Bros. Cero Miedo finisher but Fenix kicks out. The Bucks hit Fenix with the BTE Trigger. Vikingo dives in to break up the pinning attempt.
