Gunther, formerly known as WALTER. is practically unrecognizable now, as he has become significantly leaner. On top of his controversial name change, it’s a new day for the former NXT UK Champion
Speaking with Nick Hausman of Wrestling Inc. at a media event ahead of WrestleMania 38, Gunther discussed his physical transformation. He joked that he’s been eating less before he noted that he has focused on his nutrition more, on top of working out. He also stated that he opted to evolve with the times and change his body type.
“Eat less,” said Gunther. “I always work out a lot but yeah I would say I’ve really focused on nutrition. Those two guys [Imperium stablemates Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel] really push me. When I was a wrestling fan, I always liked the look of those solid heavyweights in Japan, had a little bit of a gut carrying around, just brawlers and stuff like that. But at the end of the day, you gotta go with the times and evolve a little bit.”
As for his new name, “The Ring General” made it clear that the backlash it caused didn’t bother him. He explained that people often react negatively to change, but it’s simply a part of life.
“Not at all, to be honest,” said Gunther. “If it was the other way around, if it would have been Gunther before to WALTER now, it would have been the same uproar. A lot of people react negative to change. But change is normal in life and it’s part of it, and you gotta go with it.”
Gunther also confirmed that he is now in the states full-time, so fans can expect to see more of him on NXT Prime.
“Yes, I’m living over here now,” said Gunther. “And finally we’re all on the same side of the pond.”
Gunther recently defeated LA Knight at NXT Stand & Deliver on April 2.
