Chris Jericho took the risk of joining AEW after a long and successful career with WWE in 2019 to bring some star power to the promotion that hadn’t even locked down a TV deal at the time.
That gamble paid off as he went on to become the first AEW World Champion and carried the main event scene throughout the first year of the promotion. He also created The Inner Circle that helped build younger stars.
There are a lot of talent contracts that have already expired or will be coming due to this year. Tony Khan recently addressed this and noted that he will have to make some tough decisions.
Dave Meltzer noted on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio that Jericho’s two-year extension option was picked up by AEW in 2020 and he’s under contract until early 2024.
“Even Jericho, there’s an age situation, but he was picked up. Actually, Jericho signed his two-year extension. I don’t know if you know, but Jericho’s two-year [extension] was picked up in January 2020. He’s under contract till January 2024.”
On tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Jericho will team with Jake Hager to wrestle Santana and Ortiz.
