WWE is known to do some special effects during their matches. Most notably, they’ve done spots where the ring will collapse. They did this during an episode of SmackDown years ago with Big Show and Brock Lesnar. It also happened with Mark Henry and Big Show.
The latest instance where part of the ring broke on purpose was at this past Sunday’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view event in Columbus, Ohio when Roman Reigns defended the Universal Title against Finn Balor, who was portraying his Demon character.
The finish saw Balor make his comeback thanks to his theme music and a soundbite of a heartbeat playing. Balor went for the coup de grace but the top rope broke and Balor fell into the ring. Reigns hit the spear for the win.
A new fan video shows that there was a cameraman who had what appeared to be a knife in hand to cut part of the top ring rope, which was executed perfectly:
Reigns will make his next title defense as Universal Champion against Brock Lesnar at the Crown Jewel pay-per-view event later this month.
