WWE SmackDown Results (9/17) Knoxville, TN – We start off with a look back at what happened between Seth Rollins and Edge last week.
We are ilive from the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, TN, as WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns makes his way to the ring, accompanied by Paul Heyman, Jimmy Uso, and Jey Uso.
While we wait for Roman to make that shortish walk to the ring, we have a video package showing what happened last week with Reigns and Brock Lesnar. The video also shows the arrival of “The Demon” Finn Balor.
oman has the mic and he tells Knoxville to acknowledge him. Roman asks Paul to educate the people on how to properly acknowledge him.
Paul takes the mic and he says he has acknowledged this man’s greatness since he was a little boy. Paul says he is in awe of the greatness standing before him tonight. The Tribal Chief takes no Sabbath. He ducks no challengers. He defends his place at the head of the table all the time. Paul says the Tribal Chief fears no man, no beast, no demon. They all fear Roman Reigns.
Paul tells everyone they know it is true. Finn Balor fears Roman Reigns. If Finn does not fear Roman Reigns, why does he have to tap into his inner demons to challenge Roman for the Universal Championship. Brock Lesnar fears Roman Reigns. Paul says he has known Brock for 20 years and he never saw fear in Brock’s eyes before last week.
WWE Champion, Big E makes his way to the ring. Roman holds up his title belt a little higher than Big E holds his title belt. Before anyone can say anything else, Finn Balor makes his way to the ring and we go to commercial.
Finn Balor and Big E vs. The Usos in a Non Title Match
Jimmy and Balor start things off and Balor with shoulders in the corner. Balor kicks the leg in the ropes. Jimmy with a kick and chop. Balor rolls through on a sunset flip and drop kicks Jimmy and gets a naer fall. Balor with punches. Big E tags in and he connects with an elbow. Jey tags in and hits a back elbow on Jey and pulls him to the apron. Big E with forearms across the chest and then Big E with a splash on the apron. Big E gets a near fall. Jey backs Big E into the corner and Jimmy and Jey punch Big E. Jimmy with an uppercut in the corner. Jimmy chokes Big E in the ropes and Jey punches Big E. Jey tags in and they hit a double suplex. Jey gets a near fall.
Jey with shoulders in the corner and Jimmy tags in. Jimmy with a chop and he has something to say to Balor. Jimmy misses a splash and Balor tags in. Big E with a punch and Balor with a kick. Balor with a double leg take down and double stomp. Balor with an Irish whip and running chop into teh corner. Jey tags in and he trips Balor and pulls him to the floor and sends Balor into the ringside barrier. Jimmy with a suicide dive as we go to commercial.
We are back and Jimmy sends Finn into the turnbuckles but Balor kicks Jimmy. Jimmy gets Finn on his shoulders but Finn with elbows. Jimmy sends Finn into the turnbuckles and he gets a near fall. Jimmy with a reverse chin lock. Jimmy with a forearm but Balor with a Pele Kick and both men are down.
Big E and Jey tag in and Big E with two overhead belly-to-belly suplexes. Big E avoids a clothesline and hits a belly-to-belly suplex. Big E sets for the Warrior Splash but Jey with a Samoan Drop. Big E with a UranagE. Big E with a clothesline and Warrior Splash. Jimmy is sent to the floor and Jey gets back on the apron and Big E tries for a spear through the ropes but Jey with a boot.
Jey comes off the turnbuckles but misses. Jey with a super kick for a near fall. Jimmy tags in and Balor with slingblade to Jey after avoiding Jimmy. Balor with a coup de grace on Jey while Big E hits a Big Ending on Jimmy for the three count.
Winners: Finn Balor and Big E
Backstage:
We see Roman Reigns sitting in his comfy chair and he is not in a good mood.
Roman asks Paul if there is something he wants to tell him. Paul says no. Roman asks Paul if he is sure that there is nothing that he needs to know. Paul says there is nothing. Roman asks Paul to pretend that he knows something and Paul will tell him again.
Paul says that he means it with all of the respect in his heart and soul. He says he did not know that Brock Lesnar was coming to SummerSlam. Brock fears Roman Reigns. Paul says why would Brock make up this false narrative that Paul knew that he was coming to SummerSlam. It is a cover. For the first time in Brock’s life, he is dealing wtih fear. The way he deals with this is through the false narrative that he was coming to SummerSlam. That is how he knows that Brock fears Roman.
Roman asks Paul if Brock is going to appear at Extreme Rules and Paul says no. Roman wants to know how does Paul know. Paul says if Brock fears Roman, why would he appear at Extreme Rules. Roman says he pays Paul to know in advance.
— Rick Boogs is on the stage and he introduces himself and Shinsuke Nakamura. Back to commercial.
Rick Boogs vs. Robert Roode
Ziggler distracts Boogs and Roode hits Boogs from behind and chokes him in the ropes. Roode with a knee to the midsection and then into the turnbuckles. Roode with a chop and forearm followed by kicks. Boogs with an Irish whip but he runs into boots. Roode with a Blockbuster for a near fall. Roode with a kick and he sets for the Glorious DDT but Boogs blocks it and Boogs with a squat and Samoan drop. Boogs with an exploder and a second one. Boogs with a bulldog. Boogs with a kick and a pump handle power slam for the three count.
Winner: Rick Boogs
After the match, while Boogs and an announcer dance on the announce table while Nakamura plays air guitar with his title belt, Commander Azeez with a boot to the head and then Crews sends Nakamura into the announce table. Crews and Azeez send Nakamura into the announce table again.
Apollo Crews is given a mic and he asks if this is your ‘king’? He says that Nakamura has made a mockery of the Intercontinental Championship and he demands a rematch.
— Baron Corbin walks in the back as we go to commercial.
Backstage:
Kevin Owens is in gorilla psition and Kevin interrupts Megan and he says he is sick of hearing about Corbin. Kevin says he is not happy and he is furious. Corbin brings his idiot friend onto his show and then he cheap shot him. Owens tried to help Corbin but he shouldn’t have done it. Kevin says he will use that anger as fuel to beat up Baron Corbin. He will turn his frown upside down.
Kevin Owens vs. Baron Corbin
Corbin attacks Owens as Kevin makes his way to the ring and Corbin is dressed for a role in Brighton Beach Memoirs. Corbin choke slams Owens on the apron.
— In case you missed the start of the show, we take a look at what Seth Rollins did to Edge last week on Smackdown. Then, Seth Rollins makes his way to the ring as we go to commercial.
— We are back with a look at Bianca Belair’s day in her home town.
Backstage:
Paul Heyman walks in the back and Kayla gives Paul a heart attack as she ambushes him. Kayla says that there are rumors that Brock might be going to Raw and she asks Paul what are his thoughts. Paul says Kayla is crazy to think that he is still Brock’s advocate and he is shocked that Kayla has sources. Paul tells Kayla that her obsession over him is not possible.
Paul turns around into Big E. Paul congratulates Big E on becoming the WWE Champion. Paul says that Big E made the smarted decision because he knew he would not be successful cashing in agaiinst Roman and he went after a champion who is vulnerable. Big E says we will find out at Survivor Series but will it be against Roman Reigns or Brock Lesnar? Will the Demon mess with those plans?
We see a double superkick out of nowhere in Big E’s face! Jimm And Jey Uso attack Big E and send him into a storage case. They send Big E into another storage case while they continue the attack. Roman Reigns walks by and he looks at his cousins and then continues walking.
In the Arena:
We are finally back to Seth Rollins. Seth says it was unfortunate and someone should have helped Big E. On to more important things. Last week, I had one of the greatest matches of his career when he defeated Edge in Madison Square Garden. We have had a week to process the end of that match. Seth says what happened to Edge was unfortunate and unsettling. It was scary what happened to Edge at the end of the match. When his boot came down across the back of his neck, I heard a pop. I felt a crunch. i don’t know how to describe it other than . . . do you know . . . when you step on a cockroach but don’t know what you step on but you hear the crunch and you know that there is a lifeless being underneath.
We take a look at the footage.
Seth says he knows that is difficult to watch and he understands why the people are booing. Seth says he has a question for everyone and it is the same question he has been asking himself. What did you think was going to happen? Seth wants to know what you thought was going to happen. That was one of the greatest wins of his career and he didn’t have a moment to enjoy it. Everyone is looking at him and calling him a monster. This company said that what he did was unconscionable and he was told he went too far.
Seth says he used a legal move in a legal match and he won the same way he won a majority of matches in his career. Seth says Edge went too far. He is a family man and he knew the risks. He knew the consequences and he got in the ring with Seth. Do you know who is to blame? Look to the left, to the ring, and in the mirror. You are to blame for what happened to Edge. You goaded Edge into goading me. Do you remember when Edge called Seth ‘Edge Lite’? What did you do? You cheered. What about when he dumped black gunk on him? What did you do?
If you didn’t like that, you are not going to like this. I am not done with Edge. This week on NXT, Edge’s wife said that Edge was at home recuperating. Edge, if you are at home, you are watching. You are thinking the same thing that I am thinking. Are you physically capable of getting back in this ring? Are you emotionally capable of getting back in this ring? I saw the look in your eye when they had you on that stretcher and put you in that ambulance. That look was fear. For a moment, I felt sorry for you and it has been eating me alive in the back of my brain for the last week. I cannot live feeling sorry for you. I have to move on. I can’t do that until I finish you.
It ends two ways. I find you in your cabin and I finish you in front of your family. Or you crawl your way back to the ring so we can finish this dance in the ring. I have to finish you, one way or another.
Backstage:
Kayla Braxton is in the back and she is with Becky Lynch. Kayla asks if Bianca’s celebration tonight will give Bianca momentum going into Extreme Rules. Becky says momentum will keep going until it meets an opposite force. She had momentum going into SummerSlam. Tonight is a big night for Bianca and Becky says she might have to check it out.
— Zelina Vega and Carmella make their way out to the ring as we go to commercial.
Zelina Vega and Carmella vs. Toni Storm and Liv Morgan
Storm and Carmella start things off and Carmella knocks Morgan off the apron. Carmella avoids Storm and tags in Vega. Vega pushes Storm and Vega blocks a kick. Storm kicks Vega into the corner and Carmella distracts Storm and Vega kicks Storm. Vega with a running knee for a near fall. Vega with a Kimura and punches to the back into a suplex.
Carmella and Morgan tag in and Morgan with forearms. Carmella with an Irish whip but Morgan with a boot. Morgan sends Carmella into the turnbuckles and Carmella goes to the floor and she is screaming about her nose. The referee gets to ten while Carmella is still on the floor.
Winners: Toni Storm and Liv Morgan (by count out)
After the match, Liv says she is so sorry that she broke her nose. Liv says she is not sorry at all. She is tired of her running her mouth and running away. Liv challenges Carmella to a match at Extreme Rules. If you accept, I will make you look as hideous on the outside as you are on the inside.
Backstage:
The Street Profits are in the back. Ford says the EST of the WWE is HOME. That means they are celebrating tonight. Ford says that Shotzi and Tegan are bringing the tank. Dawkins says they are hungry for the tag titles. They say the Usos are scared. They are distracted from the fact that you are going to lose your titles.
We go to commercial.
Backstage:
We are back and Carmella is in the medical room. Carmella says Liv tried to make her a five, like her. There is something about being jealous, but she tried to deface the most beautiful woman in WWE. Carmella says the match is on. Zelina tells Sonya and Adam that Liv has to go through her first.
Backstage:
Finn says he was not born into a wrestling family. He does not have a Bloodline. He came from a family of railroad workers. He is not supposed to be here. He fought and scratched. The Demon is a manifestation of everyone who told him no. It unlocks a rage inside him that cannot be controlled. He does not summon the Demon, the Demon summons him. Roman and his cousin’s disrespect only adds fuel to the fire. Roman will see the fire that burns inside him burn deeper than the fires around him. You are looking at the face of Finn Balor. At Extreme Rules, you will see the face of the Demon, the Universal Champion at Extreme Rules.
— Dominik and Rey Mysterio are out. Rey will be at the commentary table for Dominik’s match against Sami Zayn. Back to commercial
— We are back and on Monday night The New Day will face The Usos and Roman Reigns.
Backstage:
Sonya Deville is in the back and she is on the phone. Naomi shows up and tells Sonya to hang up her phone. Naomi wants to know when her match is. Sonya says there isn’t enough time tonight and come back to her next week. Naomi says she has been here longer than Sonya and one way or another, she will get her match.
Dominik Mysterio vs. Sami Zayn
Zayn goes to the floor when the bell rings and Zayn has some words for Rey. Dominik goes to the floor and Zayn returns to the ring. Zayn kicks Dominik when he gets back into the ring. Zayn with a clothesline and he gets a near fall. Dominik blocks a power bomb and connects with forearms. Dominik with a springboard head scissors but he runs into a boot from Zayn. Zayn with a chop and Zayn tries to show Dominik how to do moves off the ropes but Dominik crotches Zayn and knocks him off the apron. Dominik with a springboard cross body onto Zayn.
We go to commercial.
We are back and Dominik blocks a Blue Thunder Bomb while we are told that Naomi has been fined by officials. Dominik gets a near fall. Dominik wtih a back elbow and a tornado DDT for a near fall. Dominik with a round kick and a drop kick that sends Zayn into the ropes. Dominik with a 619 and then Dominik goes up top and goes for a frog splash but Zayn gets his knees up and gets the three count.
Winner: Sami Zayn
After the match, Sami tells Rey that Dominik is not ready and maybe he isn’t as good a coach as he thinks he is.
— We take a look at what Bianca Belair has done in her return to Knoxville.
— Kane (as Glen Jacobs) makes his way to the ring as we go to commercial.
— Next week, Shinsuke Nakamura will defend the Intercontinental Title against Apollo Crews. Liv Morgan will face Zelina Vega.
Kane says as mayor of Knox County, it is his honor to welcome back the EST of WWE to her home town.
Bianca Belair makes her way to the ring.
Kane asks how does it feel to be back in Knoxville and Bianca says it is great. She thanks her friends and family who came tonight. Bianca says that everything that happens in your past, shapes your future. Knoxville made her into the EST. It was right here where her daddy taught her if someone starts something with you, you better finish it. Becky caught her off guard at SummerSlam but she has always fought and scratched to get back to the title. She will take back her Smackdown Women’s Championship at Extreme Rules.
Kane tells Bianca that after she wins the title back, she needs to come back to Knoxville to celebrate.
Kane presents Bianca with the Key to the County.
Bianca says she is proud to be Knoxville made. Bianca says they need to sing Rocky Top.
Becky Lynch comes out and she finishes singing the song. Becky congratulates Bianca and she says that Kane lied when he said you will be champion after Extreme Rules. You are Knoxville’s champion.
Becky says she has never been to a homecoming. She mentions how Bianca got a key.
Bianca asks Becky why is she here. You are in here but you don’t even go here.
Becky says she didn’t come out to steal Bianca’s thunder. Becky says SummerSlam was her night and Extreme Rules will probably also be her night. She tells Bianca that tonight is her night. You have all of these little boys and girls who look up to Bianca and she offers her hand to Bianca.
Bianca shakes the hand and then she does not let go as Becky tries to walk away. Becky misses a clothesline and Bianca gets Becky up for the KOD. Becky gets to her feet and hits a uranage.
We go to credits.
