NXT Results - August 24, 2021

We are at the Capitol Wrestling Centre and your announcers are Wade Barrett, Beth Phoenix, and Vic Joseph.

— We see a limo arrive at the building and Cameron Grtmes and Ted DiBiase emerge. Cameron and Ted make their way to the ring, with Grimes proudly showing his new Million Dollar Championship.

Ted tells Cameron that when he showed up, people were asking what was he trying to buy.  Ted says he was looking for someone who could carry on the legacy of the Million Dollar Man and be the Million Dollar Champion.  They would need to be strong of mind, strong of mind, and strong of heart.  In addition to being athletically gifted, having a strong heart is important.  You are not a quitter.  You were knocked down and kept getting up until you became the Million Dollar Champion.

Cameron says if was to be completely honest, you drove me nuts.  Ted says he did it on purpose because he was testing him.

Cameron says he was glad that Ted gave him that test.  Cameron says he was looking at the shiny jewerly and the zeros in his bank account.  He didn’t have an accomplishment to be that someone.  As I was cleaning up trash and scrubbing toilets, I couldn’t let that happen to you.  I was not going to let that dummy have the Million Dollar Man as his butler.  At Takeover, we took care of LA Knight and Cameron became the Million Dollar Champion.  

Cameron says he has a question for Ted.  Where is Cameron Grimes going now? Ted says we know where we have to go and that is TO THE MOON.

— We have a video package to recap Takeover 36.

— Back from a break and we see Hit Row show up in the Most Dangerous Parking Lot in Sports Entertainment and they leave the headlights on as they walk into the building.

Ridge Holland vs. Timothy Thatcher

They lock up and Holland with a European uppercut.  Thatcher with a European uppercut and they continue the exchange.  Holland with a side head lock.  Holland with a shoulder tackle but he misses an elbow drop.  Thatcher with a European uppercut.  Thatcher with more European uppercuts and a body scissors take down into a knee bar.  Thatcher with a forearm.  Holland with knees and then he connects with a forearm.  Holland slams Thatcher into the ropes.  Holland with a knee drop for a near fall.  Holland with forearms and Thatcher goes down.

Holland with forearms to the back of the head.  Thatcher with a European uppercut and forearms.  Holland with a back elbow and he gets a near fall.  Holland with a punch to Thatcher.  Thatcher with forearms and a belly-to-belly suplex for a near fall.  Thatcher goes for the Fujiwara arm bar but Holland locks his hands.  Thatcher with forearms to the back and then tries for an abdominal stretch but Holland powers out of the hold.  Thatcher with a knee and forearm.  Holland with a head and arm suplex.  Holland with a waist lock and Thatcher with a double wrist lock.  Thatcher with a European uppercut to the back.  Holland with a clothesline to Thatcher.  Thatcher goes to the floor in front of Ciampa.

Holland with a European uppercut on the floor and they return to the ring.  Holland with a nerve hold and then he goes for a rear chin lock.   Holland with a chicken wing and chin lock.  Thatcher with a forearm and Holland fires back and Thatcher goes to the floor.  Holland with kicks to Thatcher.  Holland returns to the chicken wing and chin bar.  Holland with an elbow drop and he gets a near fall.  Holland with a reverse chin lock.  Thatcher with a European uppercut and Holland with a punch.  Thatcher with another European uppercut and Holland with a knee and European uppercut.  Holland with a boot to the head.

Thatcher with a European uppercut and Holland fires back.  They continue the exchange.  Thatcher with an enzuigiri and a slam into the ropes.  Thatcher goes for a single leg crab and he locks it in.  Ciampa yells at Holland and Holland kicks Thatcher away.  Thatcher slaps Holland and Holland blocks an enzuigiri.  Holland with a head butt and Northern Grit for the three count.

Winner:  Ridge Holland

After the match, Ciampa goes after Holland and Dunne gets in the ring but Dunne is sent to the floor.  Ciampa goes after Holland again but Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan pull Ciampa to the floor.  Holand with a head butt to Ciampa. Thatcher pulls Holland to the floor.  Dunne distracts Thatcher and then Holland sends Thatcher into the ringside barrier.  Dunne holds Holland back.

— We take a look at Carmelo Hayes.  He is asked how big this is for him.  He mentions he faced KUSHIDA and Adam Cole when he started and now he is facing opponents much bigger than him.  A win tonight will guarantee him a title match.  He is asked about his actions and Hayes says people consider him an underdog but that isn’t what he thinks of himself.  He is asked if this is too much too soon.  Hayes talks about the time he has put into this.  He backs up what he says.  He is asked about facing someone over 400 pounds.  Hayes says there is no one like Odyssey Jones.  He is fast and agile.  He is doing stuff people Hayes’ size does but Jones is 400 pounds.  Hayes is asked what is next for him.  Hayes says we will have to find out and he will take things one match at a time.  You will see him with championship gold.

We go to commercial.

— We are back with a look at what happened last week when Indi Hartwell popped the question to Dexter Lumis. McKenzie are in the back with Indi and Dexter.  Indi says she feels amazing.  Being in love is great and so is being engaged.  McKenzie asks about a wedding date and Dexter holds up a drawing that says the wedding is going to be on September 14th. Indi forces Dexter to kiss her.

Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne vs. Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter

Dolin and Carter start things off.  Carter with a waist lock and take down.  Carter with a waist lock and an O’Connor Roll for a near fall.  Kacy tags in and Carter wtih a drop kick.  Carter drop kicks Jayne and Dolin and Jayne go to the floor.  Carter and Catanzaro tease dives to the floor.  Jayne distracts Kacy and Dolin with a forearm to the back.  Dolin with an Irish whip and elbow in the corner.  Jayne tags in and Jayne helps send Dolin into the corner for a bronco buster.  Jayne with a back senton into the corner for a near fall.  Jayne kicks Kacy.  Jayne sends Kacy into the corner and Dolin tags in and connects with a shoulder.  Dolin with a hard Irish whip.  Jayne tags in and kicks Kacy in the corner. 

Dolin tags in and Jayne with a back breaker and Dolin clotheslines Kacy over Jayne for a near fall.  Dolin sends Kacy to the floor and Kacy sneaks back into the ring and Carter tags in.  Carter with forearms to Dolin and a kick to Jayne.  Carter with punches and a forearm to Dolin and then hits a drop kick on Jayne and a splash on Dolin.  Carter with a running boot to the head for a near fall.   Jayne tags in and Dolin with a forearm and Jayne with a bicycle kick for a near fall.  Kacy tags in and they hit the neck breaker and 450 splash combination for the three count.

Winners:  Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter

Kayden and Kacey go to the announce table and they say they are going to get the tag titles.

— Raquel Gonzalez is in the back with McKenzie and she is asked about how she feels.  Raquel says she meant every word about Dakota.  She says she almost sent Dakota through the mat.  She is not done with Dakota.  She says she has been waiting for Kay Lee Ray to come to the US.  She tells Kay Lee Ray it does not matter who steps up…

Franky Monet, Jessi Kamea, and Robert Stone enter the room and Franky says she is jumping to the front of the line.  She will take Raquel’s title.  

— We go to commercial with a Kay Lee Ray video package.

— Odyssey Jones is asked about tonight’s match.  He says it is the largest moment of his career.  It is exciting to have a chance for a title match.  He says the positivity comes from the negative.  He is asked if he would be in the WWE five years ago.  He knew he would be in WWE but he didn’t think it would happen so fast.  It allows him to show himself as a true person.  Taking off the helmet shows a different side of him.  Odyssey is asked about his name and he says it represents his journey.  Jones says he will try to be the best man he can be.  He is asked what is next if he wins.  Jones says thinking that far is just too far.  Hayes is a talented competitor.  It is going to be tough.  He says he has to win.

Kay Lee Ray vs. Valentina Feroz

Ray pushes Feroz away when she goes for the leg.  They lock up and Ray with a wrist lock and she works on the arm.  Feroz rolls around to escape the hold and Ray lets go.  Feroz with forearms and Ray pushes her away.  Ray with a kick and a gourdbuster and kick to the head.  Ray with kicks to Feroz.  Feroz with an arm drag and Ray with a slam and a knee drop.  Ray sends Feroz into the turnbuckles.  Ray with a chop and a hard Irish whip.  Ray with another Irish whip but Feroz with an elbow and drop kick.  Ray with a super kick and a Gory Bomb for the three count.

Winner:  Kay Lee Ray

— Samoa Joe walks through the parking lot and we go to commercial.

— We are back and Jacy and Gigi are asked about their loss and Mandy Rose tells them if they don’t want to have this feeling any more, come with her and don’t look back.  They follow Mandy.

— Samoa Joe makes his way to the ring.

Joe says at Takeover, he stood in this ring across from the most dominant champion in history.  At Takeover, I took down Karrion Kross, beat him up and he is the first three time NXT Champion.  That fact should make tonight a night for celebration but I did not come dressed to celebrate.  I have the benefit of experience.  To be champion is to be king in the land of savages.  There is no time to celebrate.  When I arrived today, I notcied the tension was more palpable.  The handshakes were colder and the stares were bolder.  I came out to ask one simple question.  Who is willing to come out and step to me.

Pete Dunne makes his way to the stage.

Pete says we have stared down so many times you know I am telling the truth.  You are not the baddest around here.  Go to your mate Regal and tell him to make the match.  Pete tells Joe not to make him provoke.

LA Knight makes his way to the ring.  Knight tells Joe he is going to clear up any feelings he has.  The chills going up your spine is fear.  You are looking at the Million Dollar Megastar.  I watched you take all night long to beat a guy I would dust in 43 and a half seconds.  If you have the tingle in your loins, I will be your first challenger and your last challenger.  

Dunne threatens to break Knight’s fingers.

Kyle O’Reilly limps out to the stage.  

Kyle says hello to Joe and Peter Doone, but he introduces himself to La Knight.  He talks about Knight swindling his way into a title match.  The only thing he would win is a Stone Cold Steve Austin fake vest contest. 

Joe says he liked that.  

Kyle says Knight didn’t get it.  He says he is not out here to talk about getting a title match.

Ridge Holland attacks Kyle and then Joe and Dunne square off in the ring.

Tommaso Ciampa attacks Dunne and he kicks Dunne.  Holland with a head butt to Ciampa.  Joe hits Knight and head butts him to the floor.

— Cameron Grimes is walking Ted DiBiase to his limousine. All good things must come to an end. Grimes gives the Million Dollar Title back to Ted but Ted wants him to have it so he thinks of him and what they’ve accomplished every time he looks at it. Grimes takes the title back but notices it feels kinda light, a bit different material. Grimes looks on the back and Ted has switched the original Million Dollar Title with a WWE Shop replica. Ted does his signature laugh as he rides off in the limo. Grimes also laughs.

We go to commercial.

— We are back and Kyle is asked about being attacked by Ridge Holland. Duke Hudson confronts Kyle and they fight until they have to be separated.

Carmelo Hayes vs. Odyssey Jones in the Finals of the Breakout Tournament

They lock up and Jones puts Hayes on the turnbuckles and Hayes with a side head lock.  Hayes decides not to try a shoulder tackle on Jones.  Jones offers his hand and Hayes shakes it and Hayes with a side head lock.  Jones tosses Hayes away and Hayes with an elbow and biel across the ring.  Jones goes to the floor and sends Hayes back into the ring.  Hayes with a drop kick and he drop kicks the knee.  Heyes goes for a running knee but Jones blocks it.

Jones blocks a bicycle kick and Hayes with an enzuigiri.  Hayes goes for a springboard move but Jones catches Hayes and slams him .

We go to commercial.

We are back and Hayes ties up the leg in the ropes and Hayes with kicks to the thigh.  We take a look at footage from the commercial break when Hayes sent Jones into the turnbuckles.  Jones puts Hayes on the turnbuckles and connects with a double sledge.  Jones misses a hip in the corner.  Hayes with a reverse chin lock into a front face lock.  Hayes with a kick and a springboard forearm that glances off Jones.  Hayes with a bicycle kick and knee to the head.  Hayes with La Mistica and an axe kick for a near fall.  Jones with a tilt-a-whirl shoulder breaker.  Hayes rolls to the floor to keep Jones from taking advantage and getting a cover.  Hayes with a kick to the head from the apron.

Jones misses a shoulder in the corner and hits the ring post.  Hayes goes to the turnbuckles and hits a Rocker Dropper.  Hayes goes back to the turnbuckles but misses a leg drop.  Jones with a splash for a near fall but Hayes counters into a crucifix for the three count.

Winner:  Carmelo Hayes

Carmelo Hayes is on the stage with William Regal.  Regal congratulates Hayes and presents him with the contract for a title match.  Hayes is asked which champion will he face. Hayes tells Jones he is no joke.  He says it is way too early to decide which title he will challenge for.  He called his shot and when he calls his shot, he does not miss.

— Pete Dunne says he does not care how many people come out and try to make their claim for the title.  I have seen the look in your eye and the result will be me as the new champion.  Danny Burch says after five months, he is back.  Lorcan says they never lost the title so they deserve a title match.  Holland tells Ciampa that he will do the same thing he did to Thatcher.

— Boa says another victim will fall to Tian Sha tonight. We go to commercial.

— We are back and Ilja Dragunov will be on NXT next week.

— Vic mentions that Timothy Thatcher is out indefintely.

Boa vs. Xyon Quinn

Boa with a boot to the chest and kicks in the corner.  Boa with knees to the midsection.  Boa with a punch to the throat followed by more kicks in the corner.  Boa bows to Mei Ying and Quinn with a forearm for the three count.

Winner:  Xyon Quinn

After the match, Quinn sees Mei Ying rise so he decides to go out the side door.

— William Regal is in the back with Johnny Gargano.  Gargano says where there is a Will(iam) there is a way.  Gargano wants the wedding cancelled.  Regal says the relationship started here and that is why we are having the wedding.  He says it will be cuckoo bananas. LA Knight comes in and he complains about what happened with Joe. Regal pushes them out of his office.

We go to commercial.

– Back from a break and Malcolm Bivens is at a Diamond Mine training session. Hachiman oversees as Roderick Strong works with Julius Creed and Brutus Creed, formerly known as collegiate wrestlers The Kasper Brothers, Drew and Jacob. Bivens calls Strong the un-crowned NXT Cruiserweight Champion and takes a shot at Kushida. Bivens says Strong will issue another Open Challenge next week.

Hit Row vs. Legado del Fantasma

The action begins as Legado del Fantasma attacks before the bell even hits. They go to triple team Francis but B-Fab grabs Escobar’s leg and stops him. Swerve and Adonis pull Mendoza and Wilde to the floor and go to work. Dolla unloads on Escobar in the ring now as the match begins. Wilde tags in but Dolla launches him across the ring. Adonis tags in and they double team Wilde. Wilde rocks Adonis and fires back with right hands and a knee to the gut. Adonis knocks Mendoza off the apron as he tries to interfere.

Adonis with a big monkey flip to Wilde out of the corner, sending him across the ring. Adonis goes to work on Mendoza now, delivering another monkey flip for a pop. Adonis dropkicks Wilde off the apron. Adonis dodges Wilde at ringside and drops him face-first into the floor. Hit Row regroups in the ring while Legado del Fantasma stands together at ringside. The two teams face off as we go to a picture-in-picture commercial.

Back from the break and Mendoza is going to work on Scott. He stops and takes a shot at Dolla but misses. Mendoza keeps Scott in their corner as the quick tags begin and quicker offense. Escobar with a running clothesline in the corner, and another tag to Mendoza for another clothesline. Wilde with a running clothesline to Scott in the corner. Escobar with a suplex to Scott, holding it in the air and then dropping him. Wilde and Mendoza tag in and double team Scott for 2 now. Wilde with a modified neckbreaker to Scott for another close 2 count. Mendoza with chops to Scott after another quick tag. Fans rally for Scott and he finally gets an opening with a clothesline. Wilde stops the tag and talks some trash to Hit Row but it back-fires.

Escobar tags in but fails to stop Scott from tagging out. Dolla tags in and unloads on Escobar. Dollar with a kick to the gut and a knee life, then a big splash in the corner. Dolla with a side-walk slam for a pop in the middle of the ring. Dolla with the big elbow drop for a 2 count as Wilde and Mendoza break it up. Dolla grabs them both by their throats. He ends up stacking them both on his shoulders. Escobar leaps but he catches him also. Dolla has all three opponents up i the air, dropping them with a big slam in the middle of the ring. Escobar ends up taking Dolla out with an enziguri while Wilde and Mendoza work on the others.

Lots more back and forth and close calls as we go past 10pm. Scott with a House Call on Mendoza. Escobar and Scott tag in and unload on each other with punches. Scott with a Gut Check in the middle of the ring. Scott goes to the top and Adonis stops Wilde from knocking him off. Dolla runs around the ring and leaps off the steps, taking both opponents down on the floor. Scott ends up hitting the 450 on Escobar but he kicks out. Escobar catches a punt kick on the apron and slams him face-first into the apron.

B-Fab runs over and shoves Escobar into the ring post. She stands over Escobar and talks trash. Elektra Lopez is standing behind B-Fab now. She turns around and they have words. Lopez takes B-Fab out with a weapon shot to the gut. This leads to Escobar going back in and rolling Scott up for the pin to win with a handful of tights.

Winners: Legado del Fantasma

After the match, Scott sits up in the ring and he can’t believe it. Legado del Fantasma heads to the stage as we go to replays. NXT goes off the air with the two four-person teams yelling at each other.
