Christian Cage Is The New #1 Contender, The Good Brothers To Defend Impact Tag Titles On Dynamite

Christian Cage is the new #1 contender to the AEW World Title.

Christian won his singles match against The Blade on the special “Homecoming” episode of tonight’s Dynamite, continuing his undefeated record in AEW. Later in the broadcast, Tony Schiavone interviewed Christian backstage, announcing to the Instant Classic that per AEW President Tony Khan, he was the new #1 contender.

Christian responded happily, reminding everyone that he was in AEW to win championships. Before the interview concluded, Christian noted that he’s not just good, he’s “elite.”

As noted, the rumored main event of AEW All Out in September was no longer including ‘Hangman’ Adam Page, with Christian rumored to be the replacement.

— The Good Brothers will make history next week on AEW Dynamite, as the duo will defend the IMPACT World Tag Team Championship against Evil Uno and Stu Grayson of the Dark Order.

Though Uno and Grayson can’t challenge The Young Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team Championship, they’ll have the chance to win some gold next Wednesday night in the latest collaboration between AEW and IMPACT Wrestling.

The official announcement from the IMPACT Wrestling is as follows:

In a historic first, The Good Brothers will defend the IMPACT World Tag Team Championships against AEW’s The Dark Order next Wednesday, August 11th on AEW Dynamite!

The announcement came just moments ago during the live AEW show on TNT.

Reached via text message, IMPACT Executive Vice President Scott D’Amore said: “The Good Brothers and I may not always see eye to eye but they are the greatest tag team in professional wrestling. I’m confident they’ll underline that fact on AEW’s show next week.”

The Good Brothers – Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson – have traversed the ‘Forbidden Door’ between IMPACT and other major promotions many times since their shocking IMPACT debuts in July of 2020. In fact, the two-time IMPACT tag champions wrestled an official AEW match as far back as early January.

However, next Wednesday’s Dynamite show at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, PA, will be the first time the IMPACT World Tag Team Championships will be defended on an event promoted by AEW.

We will continue to follow this story as it develops.
