Preview For Tonight's NXT -  Raquel Gonzalez To Defend

NXT Results – July 20, 2021 – We are live from the Capitol Wrestling Centre and your announcers are Wade Barrett, Beth Phoenix, and Vic Joseph.

Samoa Joe makes his way to the ring and he has something to say. Joe says tick tock and he says guess who’s come to smash your clock.  

William Regal comes out and he says this is not what he wanted and what he had in mind.  Regal tells Joe he knew what he had in mind when he came back.  Regal says that Joe cannot call out people. Joe says he can call him out because he was provoked. Regal reminds Joe that he was in the match as a referee so Kross put his hands on a referee, not a WWE authority figure.

Joe says Kross is out of control.  He needs to be put down.  He asks Regal if he knew about Kross’ field trip to Raw.  You have no control over Kross and I am here to control it. Regal says that Kross is on his way here and all hell will not break loose.  You will solve this peacefully.  He tells Joe not to say anything unless it is the right word. Joe says because of his deeply held respect for Regal, tonight will be the end of it.  He cannot guarantee it will end peacefully.  He can guarantee that someone goes to sleep tonight.

— We go to Xia Li.  She says she has been waiting for this moment.  It si the most important match of her life.  She says she will be the new NXT Women’s Champion.  I will be doing to you the same thing I did to Mercedes Martinez.  I will make historya nd leave tonight as the first Chinese NXT Women’s Champion.

Tyler Rust and Rodericks Strong vs. Oney Lorcan and KUSHIDA

KUSHIDA and Lorcan attack Strong and Rust as they go to teh ring.  They knock Rust off the apron and then back drop Strong over the top onto Rust.

We go to commercial.

We are back and the match started during the commercial break.  Strong with forearms to Fish but Fish sends Strong into the corner and hits crossfaces.  Fish with a crossface in the ropes and KUSHIDA tags in.  KUSHIDA and Fish work on the shoulders and then kick Strong for a near fall.  KUSHIDA with an arm bar and then he applies a hammer lock using the leg and he ties up the other arm and drops back to the mat.  Fish tags in and so does Rust.  Fish with punches and Rust with forearms.  Fish with knees in the corner.  Fish with knees and a snap mare.  Fish with a slingshot senton for a near fall.  KUSHIDA tags in and he applies a front face lock but Strong tags in.

Strong with punches and forearms.  Strong goes for a suplex but KUSHIDA blocks it.  KUSHIDA with kicks and he goes for a running divorce court but Strong counters with a back breaker.  Rust tags in and he kicks KUSHIDA in the back.  Rust with a belly-to-back suplex for a near fall.  KUSHIDA backs Rust into the corner but it is the wrong corner and Strong tags in and he chops KUSHIDA.  Strong with another chop and he connects with a forearm in the corner.  KUSHIDA with punches.  Strong with a butterfly suplex into a sleeper.  KUSHIDA with punches but Rust tags in and KUSHIDA tries to fight out of the corner but Strong and Rust are too much.

KUSHIDA with a handspring double back elbow and he tags in Fish. Fish with kicks to Rust followed by a knee into the corner. Fish knocks Strong off the apron and then Fish with a back heel kick and a sliding clothesline for a near fall. Rust with forearms and knees. Strong grabs Rust and Fish with a punch to Rust but he misses a kick to Strong. Rust with a forearm to the back of the head and Strong tags in. Strong with a backdrop driver onto the apron.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Strong with a knee to Fish followed by punches.  Rust tags in and Strong with a knee and Rust with a scissors kick for a near fall.  Rust with a rear chin lock.  Fish with punches but Rust punches back.  Rust with a kick and Strong tags in.  Strong kicks Fish and connects with a forearm and then he applies a head lock.  Fish gets to his feet and he connects with knees as he gets close to his corner but Strong with a take down and he gets a near fall.  Strong with knees and he applies a head lock.  Rust tags in and kicks Fish.  Rust with an abdominal stretch.  Fish with forearms but Rust with a forearm and Rust swings at KUSHIDA.  Fish with a spinebuster and both men are down.

KUSHIDA and Strong tag in and KUSHIDA with palm strikes to both men followed by a reverse atomic drop and a hip toss, cartwheel and drop kick to Strong.  Strong with a sunset flip but KUSHIDA rolls through and kicks Strong and gets a near fall.  KUSHIDA with a running divorce court but he misses the kick to the arm.  Rust tags in and he connects with a forearm and hits a gutwrench power bomb.  Rust misses a kick and KUSHIDA with an enzuigiri.  Rust with an O’Connor Roll into an ankle lock.  KUSHIDA with a forearm and Rust fires back.

Rust blocks a punch and he hits a flipping snap mare for a near fall.  Strong and Fish go through the ropes to the floor.  KUSHIDA goes up top and hits a knee to the arm and then KUSHIDA with a kick to teh arm.  Rust with a kick but KUSHIDA rolls through into the Hoverboard Lock and Rust taps out.

Winners:  KUSHIDA and Bobby Fish

— We see LA Knight arrive at the building with Cameron Grimes driving him.  They argue about the time it took to get to the building.  Grimes gets Knight’s bags from the car and he is amazed at how many bags he has.  Drake Maverick shows up and helps Grimes but Knight tells Drake that Grimes doesn’t need help. Knight and Drake have some words and Knight says they are going to meet tonight in the ring. Grimes apologizes to Drake for getting him involved.

We go to commercial.

— We are back and the day after SummerSlam, we will have our next Takeover Special.

— We have a video for Odyssey Jones.  He says this is his chance to show that it is his time to shine.  He has broken record in the weight room and broken jaws in the ring.  The NXT Universe is about to go on an odyssey.

— We see Samoa Joe pacing in front of the door to the CWC.

Franky Monet (with Jessi Kamea) vs. Jacy Jayne

They lock up and Monet with a clean break.  Robert Stone shows up at ringside and Monet with a knee and she misses a kick.  Jayne with a rollup for a near fall.  Jayne with an enzuigiri and a bicycle kick.  Jayne misses a cannonball into the corner and Monet with a running double knee strike.  Monet kicks Jayne in the corner.  Franky with a reverse chin lock.  

Mandy Rose shows up at the announce table and sits down because there are apparently no seats in the building.

Monet with forearms and she gets Jayne up and Jayne with elbows to get to her feet.  Jayne with a head scissors and a bicycle kick to Monet.   Jayne with a running neck breaker for a near fall.  Monet blocks an Irish whip and she kicks Jayne in the midsection.  Monet with a Glam Slam for the three count.

Winner:  Franky Monet

After the match, Franky celebrates on the ropes and Robert Stone tries to take credit for the work, and Mandy Rose has disappeared.

— McKenzie Mitchell is with Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory and she asks Johnny about the loss.  Johnny says he is doing okay but Austin says he hasn’t slept for weeks. Kyle O’Reilly shows up and he says he heard what they said.  Johnny says he didn’t say anything and Kyle says he was talking about what Austin said. Kyle says he is in a fighting mood so he challenges Austin to a match. Austin says that Kyle is on and he is going to put on his dancing shoes.  Johnny says that Austin has to do this on his own tonight and he wishes Austin luck.

We go to commercial.

— We are back and Vic mentions that NXT will be on Syfy the next two weeks.

— We go to Wade Barrett and his conversation with Bronson Reed.  

Wade asks how losing the title has affected him.  Reed says it was a big moment for him when he won and it was a big moment for his friends, family, and wife.  He says he has to push forward and fight harder than ever.  Wade mentions that Reed will be facing Adam Cole next week and he asks if that is wise.  Reed says he wants to fight the best.  Cole ran his mouth last week and I shut him down.  Next week, I will finish the job.

Kyle O’Reilly vs. Austin Theory

They lock up and Austin backs Kyle into the corner.  Austin with a clean break.  Austin with a waist lock take down.  They go to a Greco Roman knuckle lock and Kyle grabs the ankle and Kyle kicks the other leg.  Austin with a forearm and Kyle with a standing switch and Theory with a standing switch of his own.  Kyle with a wrist lock and Theory with a suplex.  Theory with a forearm and Kyle with a forearm of his own.  Austin with a knee and more forearms.  Austin with a snap mare and boot to the chest.  Kyle with knees.  Austin with a shoulder in the corner followed by a side head lock take down.  Kyle with a rollup for a near fall.  Kyle with an ankle pick but Austin kicks Kyle away.

Austin with a side head lock and he holds on when Kyle tries to send him off the ropes.  Kyle lands on his feet on a suplex attempt and Theory with an elbow.  Kyle with a slap to Theory.  Theory goes over the top rope to the apron when Kyle drops down.  Kyle kicks Austin off the apron.  Theory returns to the ring and he kicks Kyle and hits a back breaker.  Kyle with a rollup for a near fall.  Theory with a forearm and he gets a near fall.  Theory kicks Kyle in the back.  Kyle with knees to the ribs and a knee drop to the back.  Kyle pulls at the face.  Kyle with an arm bar.

Theory with a back breaker for a near fall.  Theory with a rear chin lock.  Theory with a knee to the midsection but Kyle blocks a suplex.  Kyle with kicks and knees followed by forearms and more kicks.   Kyle runs into a boot but Kyle blocks it.  Theory with a kick and forearm followed by a rolling blockbuster for a near fall.  Theory slams the arm into the mat and he kicks Kyle and follows with forearms.  Theory with forearms and Kyle goes through the legs and goes for an O’Connor Roll but Theory holds on to the ropes.  Theory with a rolling move and Kyle catches Theory and then locks in a heel hook but Theory gets to the ropes.  Theory avoids being sen into the turnbuckles and Theory sends Kyle into the turnbuckles and follows with a slingshot boot and a rolling suplex for a near fall.

Theory with an arm bar.  Kyle with punches and Theory with a knee.  Kyle with a knee to the midsection.Kyle with knees to Theory’s midsection.  Kyle with a slap and jumping knee followed by a kick and leg sweep.  Kyle with a running forearm into the corner and he works on the arm.  Kyle with a knee in the corner followed by a running boot and a butterfly suplex into a cross arm breaker but Theory locks the arms.  Kyle with a n ankle lock.  Theory gets to the ropes to force a break.  Kyle with a knee to the arm.  Kyle with a kick to the shoulder.  Theory with a back elbow and he sets for a power bomb but Kyle gets to his feet and he connects with a forearm.

Theory with a forearm to the back and Theory with Three Seconds Around the World for a near fall.  Theory with a fisherman’s Ushigoroshi for a near fall.  Kyle goes to the floor and Theory picks up the ring steps.  Kyle gets back to his feet and Kyle kicks Theory and sends him into the bottom part of the steps.  Kyle and Theory return to the ring and Kyle with a kick.  Kyle with a double leg take down and he connects with punches and Kawada kicks and a kick to the ribs.  Kyle with a Axe and Smash followed by a knee to the chest.  Kyle goes up top for a knee drop to the leg and he applies a heel hook and Theory taps out.

Winner:  Kyle O’Reilly

After the match, Kyle does not immediately release the hold.

— McKenzie is in the back with Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai.  McKenzie asks Raquel about Xia’s comments.  Raquel says everyone is talking like that.  You brought up what would happen if Ember hit Eclispe?  I won.  Dakota says that Raquel is going to destroy Xia for what Xia did after she beat Ember last week.  I am not afraid of Xia or her bodyguard..  There will be no one left when I am done with Xia.

We go to commercial.

— We are back and Legado Del Fantasma is in the ring with the Masked Mariachi Players.

Santos says he won’t need the band tonight.  Santos says he was going to give you a taste of the best musical heritage . . . mariachi.  The best music in the world.  He says he changed his mind.  He is not going to lower himself to entertain you.  Porque?  Because you, you, you, and you ain’t worth it.  I am not going to do the Hit Row thing and vomit a few lines, embarrass myself and embarrass my hermanos.  What is this, a battle of styles?  My style is being the true and real campeon.  

Hit Row, I am going to take that North American title and put it up there with blood, tradition, heritage, familia.

Hit Row comes out.

Ashante says they are talking real spicy.  B-Fab wants to know what this is.  They say their music is trash.  You are celebrating their quincieneros paid for by Santos because he is your daddy. Top Dolla says he is Escobar like Pablo.  I smell gato when I see you.  Don’t say that tough talk to this face.  Top Dolla says he was taller than them in sixth grade. Isaiah says it took an entire Legado to stop him from getting the title so he got a group of his own so this is payback.  Scott says if family is everything, it is beautiful to see the fruits of the Legado but you will be my bitch.

Santos says you can do those nursery rhymes all night but I am going to take the title back to Mexico.

Hit Row enters the ring and then Legado sends Mendoza and Wilde after Adonis and Dolla.  Scott punches Escobar but Escobar punches back.  Escobar sees the guitar and he decides to go El Cabong but B-Fab takes the guitar and Scott punches Escobar.  Scott takes the guitar and Escboar begs for mercy.  Scott swings and misses and Escobar gets to the floor.  Wilde gets into the ring and he is surrounded and he does it to himself and he gets Wilde to flinch and Adonis with a super kick.  Scott hits Wilde in the back with the guitar.

— We see The Way in their locker room and Johnny says they have to calm down.  Candice says things have been terrible.  They lost the tag titles and then Johnny couldn’t beat Kross.  Then Austin gets into fights wtih people he cannot beat.  Indi says if he wants to kiss Dexter, he should be able to kiss Dexter.  Candice says that they need to get the therapist. Mom and Dad talk to Indi while Austin leaves the room.

Back to commercial.

— We are back and Joe is still waiting for Karrion Kross.  William Regal tells Joe that Kross will be here and he tells Joe to calm down. Joe says he respects Regal but he will be the first person to greet Kross when he gets here. Regal asks Joe to do it peacefully.

Andre Chase vs. Odyssey Jones in a Breakout Tournament First Round Match

They lock up and go to a stalemate.  Jones gets Chase up but Chase gets to his feet and he applies a side head lock.  Chase with kicks to the knee and then he kicks Jones to the mat.  Jones with a shoudler tackle and then he catches Chase on a leap frog but Chase gets to his feet.  Jones sends Chase to the floor.  Chase gets back into the ring when Jones goes to the floor.  Chase with a drop kick through the ropes and then he hits a pescado.  Jones slams Chase onto the announce table but Chase sends Jones into the ring post and then he gets a near fall.  Jones blocks an Irish whip and then Jones goes into the turnbuckles when Chase moves.  

Chase with a slingshot cutter and then he hits a moonsault for a near fall.  Jones with body blocks and a running cross body.  Jones with splashes into the corner followed by a uranage for the three count.

Winner:  Odyssey Jones

— MSK are in the back with McKenzie Mitchell and she asks them what is next.  Carter says they are looking forward to the next challengers.  McKenzie asks them what does MSK stand for.  

They are interrupted by a video from Imperium.  Marcel says his father told him to love and respect this business with all of your being.  Fabian asks what happened to their sport.  All you have are lucha libre losers, rappers, and champions who have no respect.  Barthel says they are here to protect the integrity of their sport by all means necessary.

The feed comes back and they are done explaining what MSK means.

We go to commercial.

— We are back and Pete Dunne says for months he has been begging anyone who thinks they are tougher or a better technician than me to step up.  Thatcher and Ciampa did it last week.  If you are up to it, how about we have a scrap next week.  Lorcan says we can see how tough you are next week.

LA Knight vs. Drake Maverick

Knight tells Grimes to hold the title belt and Maverick punches Knight.  Maverick with a drop kick to the temple.  Knight wit a kick and punch.  Knight with a belly-to-back suplex.  Knight decides to ignore his opponent and he yells at Grimes to hold up the title belt properly.  Maverick with a back elbow and he goes to the turnbuckles but Knight gets Maverick on his shoulders.  Maverick with a rana and then he hits a cross body for a near fall.  Knight catches Maverick and he tosses Maverick over his head to the mat.  Knight yells at Grimes to hold up the belt.

Knight is drop kicked into the belt and Maverick with a rollup for the three count.

Winner:  Drake Maverick

After the match, Knight clotheslines Drake and then he punches Maverick.Grimes pulls Knight off Maverick and he tells him the match is over.  Knight tells Grimes it is his turn to hit Maverick.  Knight holds Maverick and Grimes starts to leave the ring.  Knight tells Grimes to punch Maverick in the face. Grimes winds up and punches Maverick.

— Raquel Gonzalez is getting ready for her match in her locker room and Dakota Kai is with her. 

We go to commercial.

— We are back and Karrion Krossì car arrives at the building. Joe pulls out the driver but it isn’t Kross.  Joe wants to know where Kross is and the driver says that Kross wanted him to drive around the building.

— Next week, in addition to Reed versus Cole, we are getting Carmelo Hayes versus Josh Briggs in the Breakout Tournament as well as Dunne and Lorcan versus Thatcher and Ciampa.

Xia Li vs. Raquel Gonzalez for the NXT Women’s Championship

They lock up and Gonzalez backs Li into the corner and gives a clean break. Li with a side head lock and he pushes Li away and connects with a shoulder tackle. Li with a kick to the leg and a rear naked choke but Gonzalez with a snap mare into a Greco Roman Knuckle Lock. Li with a sunset flip attempt but Gonzalez does not go over and she sends Li into the turnbuckles. Li with a boot when Gonzalez charges into the corner. Li with a kick and she leaps over Gonzalez. Gonzalez with a running boot to the chest and Li rolls to the floor. Gonzalez sends Li shoulder first into the ring post. Li falls back to the floor. Gonzalez goes to the floor and she misses a boot and hits the ring post.
