Lio Rush announced the surprising news of his retirement from pro wrestling on Tuesday night.
The former WWE star had been working for NJPW and recently made his promotional debut with AEW at the Double Or Nothing pay-per-view as the joker wild card in the Casino Battle Royale.
He suffered a shoulder injury during his AEW debut. In the statement, he said he will fulfill his contractual obligations with NJPW once healed, but plans to retire after that.
WWE ring announcer Greg Hamilton initially tweeted his reaction to the news, but then deleted it.
He wrote, “Wow…..unreal…..if we all didn’t have our own lives and families to take care of I just might pretend I give a [swearing face emoji]. (On behalf of the wrestling family and community who work for a living) On to the gym. [eyes roll emoji].”
