As noted last night, WWE announced on Thursday night that the Hell In a Cell match between WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and SmackDown Tag Team Champion Rey Mysterio was being moved from Sunday’s pay-per-view to tonight’s SmackDown.
In an update, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that people close to the situation said there was no clear reason as to why the match was moved, that made any sense, but there were a bunch of creative talks on Thursday, and those talks led to the match being done on SmackDown.
Andrew Zarian from the Mat Men podcast said that USA Network is not happy about FOX getting the Hell in a Cell match.
It is very clear that WWE expects to deliver an above average rating for FOX tonight. It is also pretty clear that SmackDown has become the “A” show since more of the bigger angles happen on Friday night and Roman Reigns has been positioned as the top heel in the company with plans to eventually turn him face.
Zarian said, “I can tell you for a fact that USA Network is very unhappy that the Hell in a Cell match is happening on SmackDown. I’m not gonna say they are fuming but they are very unhappy about it.”
Regarding Sunday’s Hell In a Cell pay-per-view, current plans as of today call for Roman Reigns to not wrestle.
There is only one Cell match announced for Sunday as of this writing, Drew McIntyre vs. WWE Champion Bobby Lashley. There have been rumors on Cesaro vs. Seth Rollins being added to the Hell In a Cell card, but there’s no word on if it will happen in the Cell.
