After two months, Io Shirai made her awaited return on tonight’s NXT episode.
Candice LeRae came out in the Capitol Wrestling Center to run down musical artist Poppy and went as far to challenge her to a fight. Poppy, who earlier in the evening released her NXT-themed album, answered the call, but it was only as a means to re-introduce the “Genius of The Sky.” Shirai came out and took LeRae to the proverbial woodshed.
It wouldn’t be too much of a shock if we saw the two competitors confront one another at NXT TakeOver: In Your House as Io’s new pal in Poppy will be performing live during the event on Sunday. During the break, Shirai ran into Dakota Kai and the current NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez, leaving fans to wonder if a rematch is in the cards.
Shirai lost the Title against Gonzalez at NXT “Takeover: Stand & Deliver” on April 7.
