WWE confirmed on Friday that this year’s SummerSlam will take place on Saturday, August 21st instead of the previously reported date of Sunday, August 22nd.
The company also noted that the location for the show will be announced on Saturday, June 5th. It’s been rumored WWE will be running at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas where the Raiders play, but it’s not been confirmed.
Dave Meltzer noted on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio that Allegiant Stadium wanted the date for the show and while the status of the show taking place there is unknown, WWE still went forward with the date. WWE will likely have less interest in the show among fans as it will take place on the same night as the Manny Pacquiao vs. Errol Spence boxing fight, which is also in Vegas.
“This is the deal, the reason it’s a Saturday was because the stadium in Vegas wanted a Saturday. However, it may not be in Vegas, but they already have got the date. The date’s a bad date because it’s the same as Manny Pacquiao and Errol Spence.”
Andrew Zarian from the Mat Men Podcast reported that Cardi B will be the host for SummerSlam.
