WWE Smackdown Results – April 9, 2021 – The final Smackdown episode before WrestleMania 37 begins with a look at what happened last week between Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan and Edge.

For the last time, we’re live from the WWE ThunderDome at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, as Daniel Bryan makes his way to the ring.

Bryan hits the ring and leads a “yes!” chant as Greg Hamilton does the introductions.

Daniel says we are so close to the biggest event of the year, Wrestlemania.  Everyone is excited and Daniel is excited for everything.  He is excited to see the set, smell the pyro, and see the human reaction in Raymond James.  He is excited to hear the roar of the WWE Universe in person.  He says he loves the Thunderdome, but there is absolutely nothing like wrestling in front of a live audience, nothing like wrestling in front of a live audience at Wrestlemania, and there is nothing like winning the Universal Championship in the main event of Wrestlemania.  That is what I cannot wait for.  Walking down to the ring with 25,000 people chanting YES in unison.  There is nothing else like it.

Daniel says he is associated with the word ‘yes’, but most of his career revolves around being told no.  Is Daniel Bryan big enough?  No.  Does Daniel Bryan belong in the WWE?  No.  Is Daniel Bryan a superstar?  No.  Is Daniel Bryan what’s best for business?  Can Daniel Bryan be the face of WWE?  No.  Does Daniel Bryan belong in the main event of Wrestlemania?  If you ask Batista, Randy Orton, Triple H, Edge, or Roman Reigns, they would say no, but I think the answer is yes.

My mentors told me to ignore those who tell you no.  That is why I say Yes.  Every time life told me no, I said yes.  Will Daniel Bryan be able to wrestle again?  Doctors said no, I said yes.  Can I become champion again?  People said no, I said yes.  Would I be able to tap out Roman Reigns at Fastlane?  Roman Reigns said no, and I said yes.  Can Daniel Bryan main event Wrestlemania?  Adam Pearce said no, but then he said yes.

This Sunday, at Wrestlemania, this is by far, the biggest match of my career.  A Triple Threat Match for the Universal Championship.  You have Edge, who is furious because he thinks I have stolen his spotlight.  You have Roman Reigns who is furious that I made him tap out and if I do it again, he will no longer be champion.  When people are enraged, they are at their most dangerous.

What Daniel Bryan will they face?  Not the Daniel Bryan who was the general manager.  It won’t be family man Daniel Bryan.  They will get the most dangerous Daniel Bryan.  Daniel says that he will do anything,

Bryan says that brings him to one more question – can he walk out of the WrestleMania main event as Universal Champion? Yes. Bryan leads another big fake “yes!” chant as his music starts up.

– Kayla Braxton is backstage with The Street Profits. They’re chanting “yes!” as well. They get hyped up about winning the titles back tonight. They’re s

uddenly attacked by SmackDown Tag Team Champions Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. Roode and Montez Ford fight to the stage. Angelo Dawkins gets the upperhand on Ziggler. Chad Gable and Otis run out to join in now. Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio also join the fight. The four teams brawl down to ringside as Rey gets launched into the barrier. We go to commercial

Fatal 4 Way for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles: Alpha Academy vs. The Mysterios vs. The Street Profits vs. Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler (c)

The match is joined in progress and Gable with a waist lock to Dominik.  Dominik with a drop kick and arm drag into an arm bar.  Otis tags in and Otis with a double sledge that allows Gable to hit a German suplex.  Dolph tags in and gets a near fall on Dominik.  Dolph sends Dominik into the turnbuckles.  Roode tags in and hits a back elbow for a near fall.  Roode with a knee to the back.  Dominik with punches and Roode with a forearm to the back.   Gable tags in and he drops a knee to Dominik’s arm a few times.  Gable with an arm bar.  Gable tries for a belly-to-back suplex but Dominik counters and gets a lateral press.  Rey tags in and connects with forearms on Gable followed by a head scissors.  Rey with a kick and Gable with an Irish whip.

Rey with an elbow and Gable catches Rey on a quebrada but Rey counters with a DDT for a near fall.  Roode and Ziggler send Ford and Dawkins to the floor.  Dominik sends Gable over the top rope onto Gable.  Rey with a splash onto Gable and Otis.  Dominik with a suicide dive onto Otis and Chad and then Father and Son return to the ring.

We are back and Roode with a knee to Ford.  Roode with an Irish whip and Ford floats over and does some flips followed by a drop kick for a near fall.  Roode with forearms to the back and Ford lands on his feet on a belly-to-back suplex attempt.  Ford punches Roode and Ziggler but Roode with a spinebuster.  Otis tags in and hits a discus clothesline for a near fall.  Otis with an elbow drop to Ford.  Otis with a punch to the midsection and Gable tags in.  Gable with a Northern Lights suplex for a near fall.  Ziggler tags in and he applies a reverse chin lock on Ford.  Ziggler lands on his feet on a belly-to-back suplex attempt followed by a drop kick.

Ford blocks a Fameasser and hits a power bomb.  Ziggler tries to keep Ford from making the tag but Dawkins and Roode tag in.  Dawkins with clotheslines and a flying back elbow to Roode and an exploder to Gable.  Dawkins with a twisting splash to Roode and a bulldog.  Rey tags in and hits a seated splash on Roode.  Dawkins is sent to the floor by Rey.  Rey sends Roode into Otis and Dominik tags in and Roode is drop kicked into the ropes and Rey sends Dolph into the ropes with a drop toe hold.  Rey and Dominik with 619s and Dominik goes up top and hits a frog splash but Otis breaks up the cover.

Otis catches Rey and sends him under the bottom rope.  Ford and Dawkins with a double drop kick to Otis and Ford with a flip dive onto Otis.  Dawkins with a sunset flip to Gable and Gable with a near fall.  Gable with a back slide to Dawkins for a near fall.  Gable with Chaos Theory to Dawkins but Ford tags in and hits the seven star frog splash.  Ziggler with a super kick to Ford and Roode tags in and gets the three count.

Winners:  Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler

After the match, Roode and Ziggler celebrate and stand tall as the music hits. We go to replays. Roode and Ziggler raise the titles on the stage as their opponents try to recover around the ring and ringside area.

Backstage:

Kayla Braxton is in the back and she is with Bianca Belair.

Kayla asks Bianca about her first Wrestlemania.  Bianca says she has butterflies but that isn’t a bad thing.  She is excited and nervous.  She says her daddy told her being nervous means you are ready.  She says that he told her not to be scared.  She says she needs to be mentally tough for Wrestlemania.  She has been working so hard and the world will see what she can do.

Kayla brings up what Sasha is willing to do and she asks if Bianca will.  Bianca says that being the EST of WWE gives her the tools to win.  That makes her dangerous and when she beats Sasha and becomes the Smackdown Women’s Champion, that will be the greatest night of her life. Back to commercial.

— We are back and we take a look at Big E returning to his roots in Tampa.

Big E says Apollo spends a lot of time talking about remembering where you came from.  I never forgot.  Wrestlemania is in my city and this is my barber.  This is where I come when I need to get my mind right.  We see Big E at his old school Tampa Prep where he was taught discipline and what made him a state champion.  We go to Raymond James Stadium, where he played his high school all star game.  This is the stadium I will walk in and walk out as the Intercontinental Champion.  This is where your Intercontinental Championship dreams die.

— We take a look at the feud between Randy Orton and The Fiend.

Nia Jax vs. Tamina Snuka

We go back to the ring and out first are the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions – Nia Jax with Shayna Baszler and Reginald. Out next comes Tamina Snuka with Natalya. Tamina enters the ring as they stare each other down. Back to commercial.

They lock up and Nia sends Tamina to the mat.  Nia and Tamina have words for each other and they lock up again and Tamina sends Nia to the mat.  Nia pie faces Tamina and Tamina with a back fist and forearms.  Tamina with knees and Reginald gets on the apron and Tamina grabs him and Shayna grabs Reginald’s leg and he is not torn in half.  NIa with a shoulder tackle to Tamina.  Nia with a splash into the corner.  Nia chokes Tamina in the corner.  Nia with an Irish whip and she misses a shoulder in the corner when Tamina moves and Nia hits the ring post shoulder first.  Tamina goes up top and Shayna tries to go after Tamina and Natalya stops Shayna.

Tamina with a super kick and Samoan drop.  Shayna breaks up the cover and the referee calls for the bell.

Winner by DQ:  Tamina

After the bell, Natalya runs in and attacks Baszler to stop her. The champs retreat up the ramp with Reginald as Natalya and Tamina regroup in the ring.

Backstage:

Kayla is backstage with The Riott Squad but Billie Kay and Carmella quickly interrupt. Kayla asks The Riott Squad about possibly winning the titles at WrestleMania. Carmella mocks them with a glass of champagne in her hand. Carmella says the titles will belong to she and Billie. Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke interrupt next. Naomi and Lana arrive now. All four teams start brawling. Natalya and Tamina show up from the ring and they get involved in the brawl now. Tamina takes out Liv and Natalya takes out Rose, the last two who were standing. Natalya and Tamina are all smiles as they walk off with the other teams recovering on the ground.

– We get a vignette for Cesaro vs. Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 37.

– We go back to the ring and out comes WWE Hall of Famer Edge with a steel chair. Edge enters the ring and unfolds the chair. He takes a seat as we go back to commercial.

In the Arena:

We are back and Edge is in the ring and he is going to speak.

Edge says he went to Wrestlemania VI, Hulk Hogan versus the Ultimate Warrior.  That night, I knew what I needed to do with the rest of my life.  When I dream things, I have to manifest them.  That is how things work in my world.  I became a WWE Superstar.  A superstar who accomplished everything.  But ending my career on my terms.  Some of you would say ‘isn’t that enough’ then you don’t know the mentality that I have to fight for nine years.  I didn’t walk away from this, I had this ripped away from me.  I didn’t try to forge another career off this.  This is all I wanted to do.  I fought and ripped my career out of fate’s hand.  I didn’t do this for a greatest hits tour.  I came back to steal the show and main event Wrestlemania.

Daniel Bryan, you come out here saying this could your last Wrestlemania.  A month in your career is like a year in mine.  You use sympathy to weasel your way into the match.  Then you had ridiculous ideas.  You face the winner of Edge and Roman and that was shot down.  You suggested you face me on Saturday and the winner faces Roman on Sunday.  That was shot down.  Now we have a Triple Threat match.  Instead of a Clash of the Titans, we have an indie bookstore troll getting in our way.

Roman, you walk around here like you own this and you owe us.  I don’t owe you anything.  You owe us.  You came into the WWE in a three man group.  You came through the crowd.  You used a spear.  Who set the template for you?  You are Samoan Edge.  You are good.  I see what you have accomplished.  I came back to swing for the fences and you are the Green Monster.  We had our match pulled away from us.  Everyone agrees except the lemmings who chant Yes like they used to chant What.  This match is happening ten years to the day from when I had to retire.  Where is the dramatic video package for me?

Why am I having to remind everyone of this/  Since I came back, I have not received the respect that I deserve.  I fought back from a torn triceps and entered the Royal Rumble at number one.  I should not have to jump through hoops.  You do not know the pain I have gone through to get back.  I am not a part timer mailing this in.  I am competing at a level no one has ever done from this injury.  It is a slap in the face at my work ethic.  It is time to demand the respect that I deserve.  You will put respect on my name.  In case you didn’t know, I am the Rated R Superstar.  You can call it whatever you want, but I am the next Universal Champion.  Because I dreamt it and now I will manifest it.

Backstage:

Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville are in the back and they talk about how excited they are for Wrestlemania.  Sonya says it wasn’t fair that Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler had to defend their titles against three other teams.  She has also an issue with the Triple Threat Match.  She says it should be Roman Reigns versus Edge in a singles match.

— Sasha Banks is in the back with Kayla Braxton and we will hear from her when we come back from commercial.

Backstage:

We are back and Kayla is still with Sasha Banks.  She asks Sasha about Bianca’s comments.  

Sasha asks if she cares about what Bianca has to say.  It is the other way around.  Bianca wants to hear what she has to say.  Bianca may be the EST of the WWE but she is not the best, I am.  I have always been and always will be.  I want Bianca at her best.  Whatever she gives to me, I will give it back to her, Boss Style.  When Bianca taps out, she will realize her place is beneath her.

— We take a look at the WWE Championship Match with a video package.

— We take a look at Sami Zayn in Miami to visit Logan Paul while he is sparring in the ring.  Logan is shocked to see Sami.  Sami thanks Logan for his help in getting the trailer noticed.  We see Sami getting locked out of the building and he cannot get back in.

While competitors for the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal make their way to the ring all together, Sami Zayn joins the commentary table and he says they only showed selected images.  He says they did not show Logan apologizing to security and they had breakfast together. Owens attacks Zayn and sends Sami into the announce table.  Zayn is able to avoid a stunner but Owens follows after.  Kevin says he will see Sami at Wrestlemania.

We go to commercial.

Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Shinzuke Nakamura, King Corbin and Jey Uso get their own entrances while commentators discusses the card for WrestleMania 37.

The bell rings and the brawl is underway as Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander elimate Akira Tozawa and Tucker early on. Alexander and Benjamin go after everyone and Benjamin is eliminated by a lot of people.  Alexander is eliminated by everyone else. We go to commercial.

We are back and Kalisto is trying to stay in the ring.  Gulak is on the apron and T-Bar tries to kick him off the apron.  Erik is eliminated by Elias and Ryker.  We have a cluster in the ropes and Mace and T-Bar bring Gulak back into the ring but they toss Gulak over the top rope to the floor.  Carrillo punches and chops T-Bar and Mace.  Carrillo is tossed over the top rope onto Gulak and he is eliminated.  Slapjack lands on Ryker’s knee and Elias eliminates Slapjack.

T-Bar and Mace square off with Elias and Ryker.  Elias and Ryker are eliminated but Ali eliminates Mace.  T-Bar grabs Ali but Murphy makes the save and Ali elimiantes Ali.  Murphy grabs Ali and Ali with a forearm.  Murphy with a knee when Ali goes for a rolling move.  Metalikw ith a splash onto Murphy.  Kalisto wants to work with Lince and Metalik despite not really being together again and then Dorado and Metalik chop Kalisto and Irish whip him.  Kalisto with elbows to Dorado and Metalik.  Dorado kicks Kalisto off the turnbuckles to the floor but Metalik eliminates Dorado.  Corbin goes into the turnbuckles but Corbin with a back drop to eliminate Metalik as we go to commercial.

We are back and Murphy and Garza are on the apron and Murphy hangs from the ropes and he kicks Garza.  Garza with a forearm to Murphy and Corbin puts Ricochet on the apron.  Nakamura and Ali are in the corner while Jey Uso is laying down on the apron.  Murphy pulls off Garza’s pants and then Corbin pushes Murphy off the turnbuckles to the floor to elliminate him.  Nakamura with a boot to Garza and Garza with a clothesline.  Nakamura with a knee to the midsection and Garza falls to the apron.  Nakamura kicks Garza to the floor to eliminate him.  

Nakamura with a kick to Uso and Corbin kicks Nakamura.  Ali suplexes Ricochet to the apron and Ricochet with a knee to Ali and then Ali is eliminated by Ricochet.  Jey super kicks Ricochet off the apron to eliminate him.

We are down to the final three and it is Baron Corbin, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Jey Uso.  Corbin and Uso work over Nakamura but Corbin pushes Uso away and Uso with a super kick and Corbin is sent over the top rope but he holds on.  Nakamura sends Uso to the apron and Nakamura with a knee to eliminate Corbin.  Nakamura with elbows and a round kick to Uso. 

Nakamura with an STO.  Nakamura sets for Kinshasa but he runs into a super kick.  Nakamura with Kinshasa and he tries to throw Uso over the top rope but Uso reverses it and eliminates Nakamura.

WInner:  Jey Uso

After the match, Jey Uso celebrates the victory by posing beside the Andre The Giant trophy and Roman Reigns makes his way to the ring accompanied by Paul Heyman. Roman congratulates his cousin for winning the Battle Royal and then Jey assumes his spot next to Heyman behind Reigns. Back to commercial.

In the Arena:

We are back and Roman is handed the mic so he knows it is time to talk.

Roman says he is annoyed that he even has to be here.  I am not a politician.  I am not running for President.  I don’t have to sell myself to you.  I have more things to worry about.  I am in a match that I can lose even if I am not pinned.  Since I am here, I might as well state the obvious.  I am going to show up and win.  You bought the shirt and that might sound like an arrogant statement but that is from my humble beginnings.  Show days are the easy day.  When you prep at a 12, a 10 is easy.  Show up and win means that when Roman Reigns shows up, WWE is winning.  I could be like Edge and Daniel Bryan and have a good week.  

One week.  Since August 23rd at Summerslam I have been doing it week after week for 30 weeks in a row.  The numbers don’t lie.  Who do you think changed the ratings?  Who made this title relevant?  Me.

Roman says this is your dream DB?  You tired of hearing no?  Now you are telling people you made me tap out?  You are holding on by a thread here.  If you made me tap out, you would be champion and you are not and you won’t be.  You can’t make me tap out on Sunday.  

Edge, you want to complete the come back?  Nobody took it from you?  That is garbage.  Direct the finger at me.  I took it from you and I took it from everyone else.  Dreamers.  This is where the comeback story ends.  You think this championship is your dream?  Being in the main event of Wrestlemania with Roman Reigns is your dream.  You are the launching pad.  If you think what I did this year is special, wait until you see what I do next.  I am a man with the golden hand.  Everything I touch has a purpose.  I save careers.

Who gave you the greatest year of your career Uce?  I am not going to do that for you DB and Edge.  I am going to crush your dreams.  This isn’t a prediction, it is a spoiler.  On Sunday night at Wrestlemania, I am going to wreck everybody and I am going to leave.  I am going to smash you, stack you, and pin you.  I am going to take this championship and hold it over my head and you are going to see someone better than you.  The whole world will acknowledge me.

We go to credits as they head to the back and commentators remind us that WrestleMania is tomorrow night. Oh, you didn’t know?
