Santos Escobar Crowned NXT Undisputed Cruiserweight Champion

Santos Escobar Crowned NXT Undisputed Cruiserweight Champion – Tonight’s NXT “Takeover: Stand & Deliver” Night 2 opened with Escobar defeating Jordan Devlin in a Ladder Match to unify the two Cruiserweight Titles.

“The Irish Ace” took control early on with a springboard moonsault. He hit Escobar with a ladder, but the leader of Legado del Fantasma fired back by using the ladder as a weapon several times.

Devlin rallied by slamming Escobar face-first into a ladder. But Escobar dove onto Devlin and sent him crashing into a ladder outside the ring. Both competitors continued to wage war, doing everything they could to keep the other man down.

“The Ace of Space” hit a breathtaking moonsault from the top of a ladder to firmly gain the advantage. But Legado del Fantasma ran to the ring and attacked Devlin when he was seemingly on the edge of victory.

But Devlin refused to stay down, as he dropped Escobar with a Spanish Fly off a ladder. But in the end, Escobar sent Devlin crashing through a ladder, and he unhooked the titles to win the match.

Devlin originally won the Cruiserweight Title at WWE Worlds Collide on January 25, 2020. The title was then extended to the NXT and NXT UK brands, but Devlin was later unable to return to the United States to defend due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Escobar was crowned interim champion after winning an eight-man tournament on the June 3, 2020 NXT show. WWE eventually dropped the interim and Escobar defended as the sole Cruiserweight Champion until Devlin returned to NXT UK action from a hiatus earlier this year. Devlin then returned to the United States in March for the build to Takeover with Escobar.

Stay tuned for more from Takeover. Below are several shots of tonight’s Ladder Match opener from the Capitol Wrestling Center at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida:
