WWE Smackdown Results – January 15, 2021 – Tonight’s show begins with a look back at what Adam Pearce has done over recent weeks.

We see Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman in an office reading the Royal Rumble Contract stipulation. Paul Heyman is looking over Roman’s shoulder and Paul says they gave him the contract 2 minutes before the show started.  It is the same contract with the same verbiage but it is for the Royal Rumble.  Paul says he hates the contract.  There needs to be a stipulation for the match that gives Roman the freedom to be him.  It needs to teach Adam Pearce fear and respect.  Paul offers to take the contract back to Adam Pearce.  Paul tells Roman to consider this handled.

We’re live from the ThunderDome at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, as Jey Uso makes his way to the ring for a match against Shinsuke Nakamura.

Jey Uso comes to the ring and he welcomes everyone to Smackdown and then calls it the Bloodline Show.  They run this show, not Adam Pearce, not Kevin Owens, not anyone in the WWE Universe.  My family is the one calling the shots.  Adam Pearce, you better be careful or you will wish you put that suit back on.  If you think we are satisfied with Smackdown think again.  For everything you get, you should be saying ‘Thank you Roman’.  For getting people to watch you and make you relevant for the first time in years, you need to say Thank You Roman.

Jey says he is trying to get his and the family is going to expand.  Jey says he is in the Royal Rumble Match.  He says he will win the Royal Rumble and then go to Raw and beat Drew McIntyre, Oldberg, or whoever is the WWE Champion.

Before the Rumble, I have business with Shinsuke Nakamura.  Everyone talks about the gauntlet.  He had to survive against opponent after opponent.  Nakamura beat Rey Mysterio, Baron Corbin, and Daniel Bryan.  When we said he was done, he was out like a light.  Nakamura, you should be thanking us because we let you survive.  Now you want to step up and fight?  You the King of Strong Style?  Let’s see how strong you are.  Once you cross my family, you are going to leave the Thunderdome in an ambulance or worse.

Shinsuke Nakamura makes his way to the ring and says if your cousin Roman Reigns is the big dog, that makes you his little puppy.  Nakamura kicks Uso in the head and we go to commercial.

Jey Uso vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Nakamura and Uso exchange forearms and Nakamura with a clothesline and snap mare followed by a knee drop for a near fall.  Nakamura with a side head lock.  Jey with a back elbow.  Jey with a slam and he gets a near fall.  Nakamura with punches but Jey punches back.  Jey with a hard Irish whip.  Nakamura misses a round kick but hits a second one.  Nakamura with knees to the ribs.  Nakamura sends Jey into the turnbuckles and follows with a gourdbuster and knees to Uso.  Nakamura kicks Jey in the corner.  Nakamura with a reverse chin lock.  Nakamura sends Uso into the turnbuckles and follows with a knee and choke in the corner.

Cesaro’s music plays and he makes his way to the ring.  Nakamura with a baseball slide to Uso and Uso is sent into the ring post as we go back to commercial.

We are back and Nakamura kicks Uso in the corner and follows with an Irish whip.  Nakamura is sent to the apron by Uso and Uso kicks Nakamura off the apron.  Nakamura is sent into the apron and they return to the ring while Cesaro answers questions about why he didn’t help Nakamura last week.  Jey with forearms and kicks to Nakamura.  Cesaro is now in the Royal Rumble match.  Uso kicks Nakamura in the corner and punches Nakamura in the corner.  Uso with a running hip into the corner.  Uso follows with kicks.  Uso runs into a knee from Nakamura.

Nakamura with a knee to the midsection followed by a sliding knee.  Nakamura runs into a boot and Nakamura sends Uso into the ropes and hits a sliding German suplex for a near fall.  Nakamura goes for the reverse exploder but Uso blocks it and hits a Samoan drop for a near fall.  Nakamura with strikes and Uso with a kick and uppercut.  Uso with a pop up neck breaker for a near fall.  Uso goes to the apron but Uso returns to the ring.  Nakamura goes to the turnbuckles and hits a knee for a near fall.  Nakamura sets for Kinshasa but Uso with a super kick.  Uso goes up top for the frog splash but he is met with knees from Nakamura.

Nakamura misses a charge into the corner and Nakamura hits the ring post.  Uso with a rollup using the ropes and the referee nullfiies the fall.  Nakamura with Kinshasa while Uso argues with the referee.

Winner:  Shinsuke Nakamura

After the match, Cesaro celebrates with Nakamura.

Backstage:

We see Sonya Deville backstage talking to Adam Pearce. Deville wants to talk strategy for Pearce again but Paul Heyman walks in. He shakes hands with Deville. Heyman hands Pearce the contract for the Universal Title match at the Royal Rumble. Heyman says Pearce has the opportunity of a lifetime in his hands. He goes on with his sales pitch and reveals that the new contract will make Pearce vs. Roman Reigns a No DQ match. Heyman interrupts his own promo to tell Deville how good her perfume is working, creeping Deville and Pearce out. Pearce is annoyed by Heyman and his pitch. He ends up signing the contract and saying this will mean that he gets injured, which is what Heyman and Reigns want to see. He hands the contract back to Heyman after signing it. Back to commercial.

Backstage:

— We are back and Jey Uso argues with Charles Robinson.  Robinson says Uso had his feet on the ropes so he didn’t make the count.  Jey threatens Charles’ job and tells him to do his job.

— We take a look back at the events that led to new Smackdown Tag Team Champions.

Backstage:

Kayla Braxton is in the back with the Street Profits.  She asks them if it was wise to defend the titles a week after their attack.  Montez says you can call them many things, but you cannot call us scared.  On March 2, 2020, we became Tag Team Champions and held the title for 312 days.  To not accept the challenge would have tarnished the legacy they are trying to establish.  Montez says they might be the champions now, but we will run it back.  Angelo says when the sequel happens, we will drop bodies like a Blumhouse movie.

Backstage:

Roman Reigns talks to Apollo Crews and Paul Heyman returns with the contract.  Roman tells Apollo to stay so he can learn from this.  Roman asks Paul if he signed it.  Roman says he won’t sign it because he did not want a No DQ match.  He wants a Last Man Standing Match.  Paul says Adam won’t accept a Last Man Standing Match.  Roman tells Paul that Adam will sign the contract in the ring tonight.  He tells Paul that he considers it handled.

— Still to come, Rey Mysterio vs. King Corbin. Also, Bayley’s new talk show premieres. Back to commercial.

Natalya (with Tamina) vs. Liv Morgan (with Ruby Riott and Billie Kay)

They lock up and Natalya pushes Liv on a break.  Liv with a side head lock and a head scissors.  Liv with an elbow in the corner.  Natalya with the advantage on the Greco Roman Knuckle Lock.  Liv with a monkey flip but Natalya and Liv hold on to the knuckle lock.  Natalya drops Liv on the top rope to counter a wheelbarrow move.  Natalya with punches in the corner.  Natalya yells at Liv.  Natalya with a suplex.  Liv blocks a suplex and gets a near fall with an inside cradle.  Natalya with a clothesline for a near fall.

Natalya with a back breaker on the shoulder.  Liv with elbows to escape and shes gets to the ropes.  Natalya and Liv exchange forearms.  Liv with a sunset flip for a near fall.  Liv with a series of kicks and an enzuigiri.  Liv with a knee in the corner and then Liv with boots in the corner.  Natalya sends Liv into the turnbuckles and hits a discus clothesline for a near fall.  Billie leaves the announce table to talk to Ruby.  Liv with an inside cradle for a near fall.  Liv with a facebuster for a near fall.  Billie argues with the referee and gets in front of Tamina.

Tamina yells at Billie and then Billie gets in the ring and it knocks Liv down.  Natalya with a rollup for the three count.

Winner:  Natalya

After the match, Natalya’s music hits as she heads up the ramp with Tamina, celebrating. Kay realizes The Riott Squad isn’t happy with her. We go to replays. Billie stands with Liv and Riott in the ring but they’re annoyed.

— We take a look back at what happened between Baron Corbin and the Mysterios last week during the Gauntlet Match.

— We go back to the ring and out first comes Rey Mysterio with his son, Dominik Mysterio. Rey hits the corner to pose as fans cheer him on. Back to commercial.

Rey Mysterio vs. King Corbin

Rey goes through the legs but Corbin grabs Rey but Rey sends Corbin into the turnbuckles.  Corbin with an Irish whip and punch.  Corbin punches Rey in the midsection and head.  Corbin with a belly-to-back suplex for a near fall.  Rey with a wheelbarrow into a bulldog to counter a belly-to-back suplex attempt.  Corbin sends Rey under the bottom rope to teh floor and Corbin with a clothesline on the floor.  Corbin gets in Dominik’s face and pushes him down.

Corbin sends Rey back into the ring and gets a near fall.  Corbin stands on the back as he taunts Dominik.  Corbin with a punch.  Rey with a drop kick to the knees and Rey goes up top and hits a seated splash and a springboard cross body but Corbin catches Rey and gets Rey on his shoulders.  Rey counters with a rana that sends Corbin into the ropes.  Corbin with Deep Six to counter a 619 attempt but Corbin can only get a near fall.  Corbin does the Wacky Slide but Rey kicks Corbin when Baron gets back into the ring.

Rey misses a baseball slide and Corbin with an elbow.  Corbin yells at Dominik and then punches him after sending Rey back into the ring.  Rey with a 619 to the back of the head.  Dominik gets into the ring and Rey tells Dominik to stop.  Corbin sends Rey into Dominik and hits End of Days for the three count.

Winner:  Baron Corbin

Rey lectures his large adult son about his actions tonight.

Backstage:

Adam Pearce walks in the bac and he sees Paul Heyman.  Paul has a smirk on his face and he tells Pearce there was a bit of a wrinkle and Roman did not sign the contract.  Paul says Roman agreed with Adam about not having a No DQ match.  Paul says No DQ isn’t the way for Adam Pearce to return to the ring for his biggest match.  It will be a Last Man Standing Match. Adam asks who will that benefit.  Paul says he is not in the business of spoilers and he tells Adam to take his time and he can address it wtih Roman face to face in the ring when he signs the contract.  Paul says he considers this handled.

— The set for Bayley’s DING DONG… HELLO is being prepared in the ring as we go to commercial.

Backstage:

We are back and Rey is witih Dominik and Dominik says that Rey has fought giants his entire career, but he is backing down.  Rey says he is not backing down.  He is trying to formulate a plan.  He talks about Baron’s accomplishments.  Dominik says he doesn’t care what Corbin has done.  Rey says if they want to take care of Corbin, he knows who to talk to.

Ding Dong, HELLO!

We go to the ring for DING DONG, HELLO with Bayley.

Bayley brings out a woman she has had her eye on for quite a time.  Her first guest is Bianca Belair. Bayley tells Biance to ring the door bell and Bayley lets Bianca in and Bianca sits on Bayley’s chair. Bayley says she will stand since she will need to get her legs ready for when she wins the Royal Rumble.  Bayley mentions Bianca’s Chronicle on the WWE Network debuting on January 24th.  We have a sneak preview of the show.

Bayley apologizes for the clip of her pinning Bianca.

Bayley asks Bianca why does she call herself the EST of WWE.  Bianca says it is for all of her accomplishments before she came to the WWE.  Bayley asks if that is an insult to the women who paved the way for her.  Bianca says that when she calls her the best…

Bayley asks if by beating Bianca she is now the best.  Bianca says Bayley can put on her gear and have a rematch. Bayley says she doesn’t have anything to prove.  Bayley says she has an idea and they can do an obstacle course next week.  Bianca accepts the challenge.

Backstage:

We go to Daniel Bryan at the Alpha Academy as he works on his hips. Kayla Braxton ambushes and asks about the training with Otis and Chad.  Bryan says they bring a fresh, positive approach.  If the Alpha Academy way helps him a little, it should help him at the Royal Rumble. Kayla asks Daniel about the effect of his loss last week to Shinsuke Nakamura.  Daniel says that Nakamura is a former Royal Rumble winner and then he shook his hand after the match.  Cesaro shows up and says that Nakamura shook his hand as a pity thing. Cesaro criticizes the training methods and Daniel says he will show him.

— We go back to the ring and out comes Daniel Bryan to a “yes!” chant. Bryan hits the corner and poses in the corner as fans chant with him. Back to commercial.

Daniel Bryan vs. Cesaro

They lock up and Cesaro with a side head lock and shoulder tackle for a near fall.    Cesaro returns to the side head lock.  Bryan with an arm drag into an arm bar.  Bryan works on the shoulder and takes Cesaro to the mat with a hammer lock.  Cesaro backs Bryan into the corner and connects with an elbow and European uppercut.  Cesaro with an Irish whip and European uppercut.  Cesaro with an Irish whip but Cesaro misses an uppercut into the corner.  Bryan with kicks and a running drop kick.  Bryan with a bulldog and he works on the arm.  Bryan works on the wrist as well.

Cesaro with a slam.  Csearo with a forearm to the kidneys.  Bryan with forearms but Cesaro sends Bryan to the mat and Bryan with a bridge on the cover.  Bryan with a monkey flip that sends Cesaro against the ropes and then onto Bryan before he goes to the floor.  Bryan with a cross body onto Cesaro.  Bryan with kicks to Cesaro but Cesaro moves and Bryan kicks the ring post as we go to commercial.

We are back and Cesaro with a knee bar and he swings Bryan around.  Cesaro continues to work on the leg.  Bryan with a European uppercut and Cesrao fires back.  Bryan with kicks and European uppercuts.  Cesaro with a European uppercut.  Bryan flips out of the corner but his knee gives out a little.  Bryan with a kick to the arm and he applies the LeBell Lock.    Cesaro escapes and kicks Bryan in the injured leg.  Cesaro with the Giant Swing into a Sharpshooter.  Bryan tries to get to the ropes and Cesaro grabs the arm and goes for a crossface but Bryan is able to counter into the LeBell Lock.  Cesaro gets to the ropes with his feet. 

Bryan works on the shoulder and he kicks Cesaro and puts him on the turnbuckles.  Cesaro blocks a Frankensteiner and Cesaro with a superplex.  Cesaro gets a near fall.  Cesaro with a European uppercut and he sets for the Neutralizer but Bryan with a back body drop.  Bryan with a backslide for a near fall.  Bryan with a round kick.  Bryan charges at Cesaro but Cesaro with a pop up European uppercut followed by a Gotch Style Neutralizer for the three count.

Winner:  Cesaro

Backstage:

Kayla Braxton is in the back and she is with Carmella.  Carmella says she said the truth about Sasha Banks.  When it comes to natural talent, she cannot touch her.  Where is Sasha since I haven’t seen her since I pinned her two weeks ago.  She is hiding from me… Sasha pushes Carmella down and Sasha tells Reginald that Carmella can get her match if she gets a match with him first.

— Apollo Crews makes his way to the ring for his match against Sami Zayn, but first… We go to commercial.

Apollo Crews vs. Sami Zayn

Back from the break and Cole shows us last week’s Talking Smack when co-host Paul Heyman gave a pep talk to Crews over his loss to WWE Intercontinental Champion Big E. Crews waits in the ring now as Sami Zayn makes his way out, who Cole calls Mr. Conspiracy Theory. Sami has his documentary crew right behind him filming, capturing all the conspiracies against him. We see Big E laying on a couch at ringside, with a cup of fruit. Cole says the winner of this match may receive the next title shot from Big E.

The bell rings and Crews immediately nails a big dropkick. They trade shots and Sami kicks Crews but runs into a big overhead throw. Sami ends up clotheslining Crews over the top rope. He lands right next to Big E’s couch. Sami goes out and taunts Big E, calling him brother. Big E says Sami can’t call him brother. Sami works Crews over but Crews fights back and slams his face into the announce table. Crews with a standing moonsault from the table.

Crews brings it back in and goes to the top but Sami cuts him off and sends him to the mat. Sami works Crews over in the corner while he’s down. Sami leaps of the second rope with an elbow to the face for a 2 count, and another, and a third pin attempt put of frustration. Crews comes back and catches Sami as he comes off the second rope again, hitting a big German suplex. More back and forth now. Crews with an enziguri. Sami with two more roll-ups but on the second the referee catches him using the tights for leverage.

Sami and the referee have words. Crews charges but Sami catches him with a big Exploder suplex into the turnbuckles. Sami stops to tell his film crew to make sure they get this. He charges in the corner but Crews rolls him up, using the tights for leverage and the referee doesn’t see it.

Winner: Apollo Crews

After the match, the music hits as Crews goes to ringside celebrating. Sami screams at the referee about the tights as Big E looks on laughing. Crews picks up the Intercontinental Title belt off Big E’s couch and stares at it. Big E gets up and tells him to keep playing and see what happens. Crews tosses the title back to Big E and they keep yelling semi-friendly fighting words at each other.

– We see Adam Pearce backstage shaking his head at the contract for his Universal Title shot. Pearce starts walking to the ring as we go back to commercial.

— We are back and next week Apollo Crews will face Big E for the Intercontinental Championship.  We will also have the Obstacle Course Challenge as 2010 NXT invades Smackdown.

In the Arena:

Roman Reigns makes his way to the ring with Paul Heyman and Jey Uso as they survey Roman’s cousin from another Maple. Adam Pearce makes his way to the ring with the contract in arm.

Roman allows Adam to sit at a table.  Roman says he does not want the chair Paul is holding, he wants the chair that Roman told Adam to sit in.  Jey pulls Adam out of the chair and Roman sits down in his chair.

Roman tells Adam to sign the contract.  Adam signs the contract and so does Roman. Adam says he has waited all night for Roman to do that and then he stands up.  Adam leaves the ring and Roman has a confused look on his face.

Adam starts to limp as he gets to the top of the stage.  Adam says he has one of those old injuries that creep up on you at the wrong time, like right now.  The standard WWE contract say the same thing… Card Subject to Change.  As a WWE official, I reserve the right because I don’t think I will be medically cleared so I will find a suitable replacement. 

The music of Kevin Owens hits and out he comes. Owens immediately signs the contract as Pearce holds it for him. Reigns looks on from the ring and he’s not happy. Owens stares down at the ring, smiling at Reigns and taunting him. Pearce is also in a better mood now. SmackDown goes off the air with fans cheering Owens on.
