Reason Why WWE Announced Edge For Men’s Royal Rumble Match – Edge had been off television since last year after he tore his triceps while working a match with Randy Orton at the Backlash pay-per-view event. He was injured while doing re-takes for the contest.
The WWE Hall of Famer was on the shelf as a result with a projected return timeline to be in the first quarter of this year. The belief was he would be ready by WrestleMania 37.
Obviously, that happened as he made his return during Monday’s episode of Raw where he did a pre-recorded promo to not only announce that he’s back, but also to declare himself for this year’s Men’s Royal Rumble Match.
Reason Why WWE Announced Edge For Men’s Royal Rumble Match
Aside from people wondering why WWE didn’t promote his appearance on Raw ahead of the broadcast, there was also the question of why WWE would announce Edge’s entry in advance instead of saving it as a surprise.
Fightful Select reports they were told that if there were an actual crowd at the show, there’s a good chance the announcement would have been held off and it would’ve been a surprise. Thus, the decision was made that Edge’s return was best served as being announced ahead of the show to create buzz for the show and help attract lapsed fans familiar with him.
Speaking of Edge, he was not at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg for last night’s Raw show. The pre-recorded promo announcing Edge’s ring return for Sunday’s 30-Man Royal Rumble Match was filmed inside the wrestling ring that he keeps on his property in North Carolina.
