Mickie James has provided an update on not only her recovery from surgery but also her plans inside of the ring.
The former WWE Women’s Champion has been out of action after she underwent surgery for a torn ACL last July at the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama. At the time of her injury, the belief was that she would be out of action for 7 to 9 months, which gave the timetable of a return to be before WrestleMania 36.
That didn’t happen. While doing an interview with Chris Van Villet, James revealed that she has been medically cleared to return. However, COVID-19 hit, which put her return plans on hold.
“The doc had already cleared me, so I was literally just getting that last two weeks to get cleared to come back to in-ring action and everything got shut down. So, I went home and I just haven’t been back since.”
James noted that she’s staying away from the WWE TV tapings at the Performance Center because she doesn’t see a need to be around if she’s not doing anything.
“There’s no need to take that risk of going there if I’m not doing anything. I would rather bide my time and wait for the perfect opportunity.”
That mindset hasn’t stopped her from thinking of what she plans to do when she does make a return, which is going after all of the championships in the women’s division.
“I’m going to go in and take all the championships,” she said. “I’m going to be my own tag team partner and I’m going to go in there and take those championships first, and then I’m going to take both of the women’s championships at the same time.”
