WWE Smackdown Results - June 19, 2020

We begin with a look back at last week’s match between Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles for the Intercontinental Championship.

Renee Young is in the ring and wrestlers surround the ring for AJ Styles to be presented the Intercontinental Title.

AJ Styles makes his way to the ring.

AJ loves having his name called out because this is his house that he built. Renee asks what this title means. AJ says first it means vindication. Everything he says has been true. He goes on about not taking handouts but it’s time to go on to what’s next. AJ says Renee isn’t good enough, there’s only one person to present the title to him. He scans the roster and finds Daniel Bryan. AJ tries to talk Bryan into being the one to come present him the title.

Bryan finally and slowly steps. AJ says all he has to do is put the title around his waist and he will be thanked. Fans chant “no!” now. AJ tells AJ to have a little respect and put it around him. Bryan hesitates some more. AJ tells Bryan to prove he’s a man. He doesn’t have to do it – if he’s a coward, he;s a coward. AJ tells Bryan to go as he starts to place the title. Bryan tells AJ to be good. He puts the title on AJ and Bryan doesn’t think that was good enough, he wants it done like a man.

Bryan takes the mic and taunts AJ. He says last week was a good match and he did underestimate AJ in the ring. Bryan goes on and tries to hype up AJ to be a fighting champion. Imagine if he defended against guys like Gran Metalik, Shorty G and SmackDown Tag Team Champion Big E. AJ says someone on his level will get an opportunity, but Bryan is at the back of the list. Bryan says AJ must be happening to giving Drew Gulak a title shot since he recently pinned AJ. Bryan leads a “yes!” chant now. AJ isn’t like Bryan anymore, he’s no longer giving out hand outs. AJ says you must be the #1 contender, and that’s it. The music interrupts and out comes new blue brand Superstar Matt Riddle. The crowd pops for Riddle’s debut.

Fans chant “bro!” now. Riddle asks AJ Styles what’s up, then introduces him. AJ knows exactly who he is. He cracks on Riddle wearing no shoes in his ring. Riddle isn’t here to ask for anything, he’s here to give AJ some info. While AJ says he’s the face that runs the place, Riddle is here to be the bro that will run the show. AJ ends up rocking AJ and hitting forearms. They brawl. Riddle with a big roundhouse kick. AJ ends up on the floor, fuming. He demands a referee as we go to commercial.

Matt Riddle vs. AJ Styles

We are back and they start to announce the match for the title but AJ says no shirts, no shoes, no title match.

Riddle with a German suplex and a knee to the ribs. Riddle with a gutwrench suplex and he holds on and hits a second one for a near fall. Riddle with forearms. AJ with a jaw breaker and Riddle misses a round kick. Riddle with a waist lock and Styles backs Riddle into the corner. AJ with an elbow. Riddle with a round kick and he gets a near fall. Riddle with a back senton for a near fall. Riddle with a front face lock into a double wrist lock. Styles with shoulders in the corner followed by a chop. Riddle chops back and connects with shoulders and forearms.

AJ with a drop kick. AJ sends Riddle into the turnbuckles and Styles with punches and kick. Riddle with forearms and kicks in the corner. AJ with a shot to the throat and he clotheslines Riddle over the top rope onto the apron. Riddle with a forearm and he tries to pull Styles to the floor. AJ kicks Riddle into the announce table and he collides with Baron Corbin. Corbin and Riddle have some words as we go to commercial.

We are back and Styles sends Riddle to the mat. We see AJ hit a drop kick through the ropes during the commercial break. Styles with a back breaker. Styles with kicks to the chest. Styles with a suplex for a near fall. Styles with forearms and he sends Riddle into the turnbuckles. Styles runs Riddle’s face across the top rope. Styles with a Phenomenal knee drop. Styles with a dragon screw leg whip. Styles with a kick to the back of the leg and then Riddle with a forearm. Styles with a forearm. Riddle misses a round kick and Styles clips Riddle.

Styles kicks Riddle but Riddle with a jumping knee and strikes. Styles with a forearm and Riddle with a fisherman’s buster. Styles misses a splash into the corner and Riddle with forearms and an exploder. Riddle misses a kick and moonsault but he lands on his feet. Riddle with a back senton for a near fall. Riddle with a sleeper. AJ leans back and gets a near fall. Styles escapes Bro 2 Sleep and Styles applies the Calf Crusher and Riddle gets to the ropes.

Styles goes to the floor and he pushes Bryan out of the way. Bryan has to be held back while AJ gets back into the ring. AJ then decides to get in Bryan’s face and he asks if Bryan wants to hit him. Styles sets for the Phenomenal Forearm but Riddle grabs Styles and hits Bro Derek for the three count.

Winner: Matt Riddle

After the non-title win, Riddle begins celebrating as his music hits. The rest of the wrestlers around the ring immediately jump in to celebrate with him. We go to replays. The celebrations continue as AJ looks up from the ramp. Riddle poses as the celebration with other Superstars continues.

– Still to come, Bray Wyatt is back. Also, Mandy Rose on MizTV.

– Jeff Hardy is backstage spacing out. A crew members comes in to mic him up but he’s just staring off. The worker finally gets him to snap out of it and mics him up. Back to commercial.

– We are back with a look back at the recent history between Jeff Hardy and Sheamus.

Backstage:

Renee Young is with Jeff Hardy and she thanks him for talking tonight.

Jeff is asked how he is doing and he says it has been a roller coaster emotionally and physically. He says he is 42 years old and he has been trying to turn his life around. He says he has been doing it his whole adult life. He needs to do what is best for him and his family. When he thinks he has everything under control and all of the fires are put out, another one pops up. The struggle is real.

Renee asks Jeff about Sheamus bringing up the past addictions.

Jeff says Sheamus is a constant reminder of what he doesn’t like about himself. He thinks if he can beat the holy hell out of Sheamus, he is turning things around. There is a part of him that causes him to doubt and wonder if he is a bad father. It all comes back. Jeff says the bottom line is that if he has learned one thing in this life, he has to catch himself before that cycle of thinking takes over. Sheamus may cause him a junkie and he may act like it some times, it isn’t true. Jeff says he has to sit back and watch things. Jeff says he is a junkie. He is an adrenaline junkie. Jeff says he is an alcoholic. Sheamus has a problem. Jeff says he has overcome bigger obstacles in his life. Sheamus is a sickening obstacle on his road to redemption. Jeff says he is not done yet.

Backstage:

Shorty G is in the back and Kayla Braxton asks about facing Mojo Rawley who is 8 inches taller and 60 pounds heavier. Shorty says it doesn’t matter how big you are and who you are friends with. Mojo shows up and Shorty says he has faced heavyweights his entire life and they don’t know what it is like to have eyes in the back of your head. Shorty punches Mojo and makes his way to the ring.

We go to commercial.

Shorty G vs. Mojo Rawley

The bell rings and Mojo sends Shorty into the turnbuckles and Mojo with kicks. Mojo with a hard Irish whip. Mojo tries to run Shorty into the turnbuckles but Shorty counters into an ankle lock. Shorty with a Northern Lights suplex for a near fall. Mojo hot shots Shorty onto the top rope and then he follows with a running shoulder tackle for a near fall. Mojo with a chin lock and half nelson. Shorty with a sleeper but Mojo escapes the hold. Mojo goes to the floor when Shorty moves. Mojo gets back into the ring and hits a splash into the corner. Mojo misses a splash and Shorty with a German suplex.

Mojo catches Shorty off the turnbuckles but Shorty counters into a rollup for the three count.

Winner: Shorty G

– Miz and John Morrison are in the back to prepare for MizTV as we go to commercial.

Miz TV:

We are back and Miz and John Morrison are in the ring for MizTV.

Miz says they need to address the elephant in the room and Morrison mentions Otis. Miz says he means the title match at Backlash. Miz reminds Morrison about pulling Morrison off Braun when he had Braun beat. Morrison says they changed the rules right before the match that the person who got the win would be champion. They don’t change the rules before the big game. Miz and Morrison mention Otis being there to distract them. If it wasn’t for Otis, they would be the Universal Champion.

Miz brings out his guest, Mandy Rose.

Miz welcomes Mandy and before talking about her romance, she asks about her best friend. Mandy points out they are ex best friends. Mandy says they were friends for five years. Miz and Morrison talk about how Sonya is the better fighter.

Mandy is ready to leave and Miz says they weren’t taking her seriously and they have a suprrise for Mandy. Sonya Deville comes out and says Mandy shouldn’t be surprised she was invited to the party. Mandy says she understands why Sonya is mad. She tried to sabotage her career and personal life. Mandy says that she is done with Sonya.

Sonya says she only sishes that she could be done with Mandy. Sonya says she sees Mandy getting the spotlight, but why does she deserve it. If it wasn’t for Miz and Morrison, she would probably be stuck in catering. Sonya points out that the promotional materials mention Mandy Rose on MizTV. Where was she? What have you done with these opportunities? Win matches? You haven’t done that. Say anything that means something? You haven’t done that. Sonya congratulates Mandy for making out with Otis at a pool.

Mandy wants to know what does Sonya want from her. You can hurt me physically and I am still here. You can try to hurt me emotionally, I have people by my side. Otis has been by my side since day one. Mandy asks Sonya what does she have other than being a fighter? You are alone. How much longer are you going to hold on to these petty resentments?

Sonya tells Mandy she will break this down for Mandy. She is not mad at Mandy. Sonya says she wants the Mandy Rose treatment. Sonya says she is looking at Mandy and she is looking at herself. The only difference she sees is ‘this’. Is this the only reason you are getting more than I am? I am better than you in every other way. Sonya says she is done. Sonya says she is going to take away what means the most for Mandy. Sonya says she will rip Mandy apart until her outsides are as ugly as things are inside.

Sonya punches Mandy and Mandy punches back. Sonya leaves the ring and Mandy slaps Miz.

– We have a video package for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.

Sasha Banks and Bayley make their way to the ring just to sit at the commentary table. We go to commercial.

Kofi Kingston and Big E vs. Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado

Kofi and Lince start things off and Dorado with a wrist lock and Kofi with a reversal. Dorado with a reversal and head scissors take down into a rollup for a near fall. Kofi with a waist lock and Lince with a standing switch. Kofi with an Irish whip and Lince flips over Kofi. Kofi and Lince both go for drop kicks and go to a standoff. They lock up and Kofi with an Irish whip and Metalik tags in and he hits a splash off Dorado’s shoulders for a near fall. Big E makes the tag and Kofi with a kick and Big E with a belly-to-belly suplex and Kofi with a splash. Big E sends Dorado over the top rope to the floor.

We see Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura watching in the back.

Kofi goes to the floor when Metalik holds the ropes. Metalik with a springboard drop kick to Big E and then he hits a springboard splash onto Kofi on the floor. Dorado with a moonsault onto Big E as we go to commercial.

We are back and Big E runs into a boot and elbow. Dorado with a cross body but Big E catches him. Dorado gets to his feet and Big E with an elbow and a Warrior splash for a near fall. Big E with an abdominal stretch and Big E with a claw to the ribs. Dorado with a handspring cutter and both men are down. Kofi tags in and hits a springboard chop on Metalik followed by chops. Metalik with chops to Kofi. Kofi with an Irish whip and Metalik with a boot and bulldog. Metalik goes to the ropes and is met with a drop kick as Metalik comes off the ropes for a near fall.

Kofi misses Trouble in Paradise and Metalik gets Kofi up and Dorado tags in and Dorado with a head scissors to Big E and Metalik with a Metalik Driver to Kofi and then Dorado with a splash for a near fall. Dorado and Metalik with a double super kick. Big E pushes Metalik off the turnbuckles. Dorado misses a move off the turnbuckles. Kofi with a running double stomp. Big E tags in and they hit Midnight Hour for the three count.

Winners: Kofi Kingston and Big E

After the match, Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura attack Kofi and Big E. Kofi is sent into the turnbuckles while Cesaro give Big E the Gotch Style Neutralizer. Cesaro with the Giant Swing and Nakamura with a knee to Kofi.

Cesaro says they are sick and tired of being overlooked. They beat the champs last week and they don’t mention them at all. Cesaro says they are the last of a dying breed. They are international stars. Cesaro says for eight years he has been treated like that.

Backstage:

We see Alexa Bliss with Tamina Snuka, Naomi, Lacey Evans, and Dana Brooke. Naomi says Alexa and Nikki blew their chance. Lacey says she can beat Bayley just like she did to Sasha. Tamina asks Lacey if she is naming herself the number one contender. Dana says they have earned the right to challenge for the title and that they are not filler. Alexa wonders where did Nikki go.

Backstage:

We are back and Kayla Braxton is with Sheamus. She asks Sheamus if he has a response to Jeff’s comments. Sheamus says things have gotten serious and it made him think. Sheamus says he is a bully and people like Jeff Hardy deserve to be bullied. He says his only regret is that he didn’t crush Jeff’s voice box so we didn’t have to hear the words come out of his junkie mouth. Jeff says he turned his life around. Sheamus says Jeff doesn’t believe it. If Jeff can’t life himself up, he will gladly do it. He will do it with a smile on his face. He tells everyone to raise a glass because he is going to toast Jeff Hardy.

– In the arena, Sasha and Bayley say that it is time to party, but from out of nowhere, Nikki Cross attacks Bayley and Sasha. Nikki sends Sasha into the announce table. Bayley wtih a waist lock and Nikki with elbows. Nikki continues her attack on Bayley and Sasha until Alexa Bliss comes out. Nikki says she wants to fight Sasha. Bayley accepts the match. Back to commercial.

Sasha Banks vs. Nikki Cross

The match is joined in progress and Sasha with kicks. Nikki with a drop kick and Sasha apologizes to Nikki and begs for mercy. Nikki is sent to the floor by Sasha. Nikki pulls out the ring skirt to catch Sasha on a baseball slide and connects with forearms. They return to the ring and Nikki goes up top but Sasha goes to the floor. Nikki with a cross body off the apron. Nikki with a splash into the corner but Sasha escapes the bulldog and hits a lungblower for a near fall. Sasha gets another near fall. Sasha chokes Nikki in the corner.

Sasha with a snap mare and reverse chin lock. Sasha with a knee to the back and a surfboard. Nikki with a head butt to the midsection followed by a shoulder. Nikki goes up top but Sasha stops her. Sasha with a forearm and Nikki pulls Sasha into the turnbuckles. Nikki with a tornado DDT for a near fall. Nikki goes for a hanging neck breaker but Sasha escapes. Sasha with a knee and she goes for the Banks Statement. Nikki escapes and she sends Sasha face first into the mat. Nikki with a crucifix for a near fall.

Nikki drops down and gets a rollup for a near fall. Sasha gets a near fall. Sasha with Meteora for the three count.

Winner: Sasha Banks

– We have a video package for Titus O’Neil, who has been nominated for the Muhammad Ali Award.

– We see Braun Strowman looking over a monitor as we prepare for the Firefly Fun House. We go to commercial.

Firefly Fun House:

We go back to another Firefly Fun House segment with Bray Wyatt’s return. Wyatt asks if we missed him. Because he missed us. He tells us some of the stuff he’s been doing, like learning TikTok and learning to knit. Ramblin’ Rabbit brings up WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman and we see the loss to Strowman at WWE Money In the Bank. Wyatt thanks Rabbit for reminding him. Wyatt says he did lose to Strowman but he realized he went about this the wrong way. He’s known Braun for a long time… the segment is interrupted out of nowhere by Strowman making his entrance into the arena. Wyatt appears on the big screen again, giving Strowman a thumbs down.

Strowman poses in the ring as his music plays. Wyatt watches from the big screen. Strowman says Bray had his chance and failed. No more games. This story between the two of them is over. Wyatt laughs and says his story may be over but… he wasn’t lying about resurrecting the dead. Wyatt deepens his voice and says our story is just getting started. We see flashbacks to the old days and vignettes of The Wyatt Family in the swamp. Wyatt is dressed how he was in the FCW days. He says Strowman looks as if he’s seen a ghost. To move forward we must take a step back to where it all began. Strowman is looking confused in the ring.

Wyatt says he created Braun so it’s his duty to destroy him. Wyatt says Strowman knows where to find him… all he has to do is follow the buzzards. Wyatt laughs and lifts up his lantern. He looks at Strowman and yells him to run! Wyatt blows out the lantern and SmackDown on FOX goes off the air.
