AEW Dynamite Results – June 17, 2020

AEW Dynamite Results - June 17, 2020

This week’s show kicks off with a live shot inside Daily’s Place amphitheater in Jacksonville, FL. where pyro goes off near the entrance way.

The camera pans around the building and we see fans at ringside as Jim Ross welcomes us to this week’s show. From there, Kenny Omega’s theme hits and fireworks and pyro explode some more as Tony Schiavone runs down some of the action scheduled for tonight.

AEW Tag-Team Championships
Kenny Omega & “Hangman” Adam Page (c) vs. Dustin Rhodes & QT Marshall

Kicking things off in the ring for their respective teams are Omega and Rhodes. The bell sound and these two lock up. Omega hits the mat, Dustin hits the ropes and Rhodes uses veteran tactics to cut off Omega. Omega hoists Dustin up out of nowhere looking for the One-Winged Angel in the early goings.

Now we see Omega go to the top rope, looking for a hurricanrana after blasting Rhodes with a big running knee. The ref checks on Dustin as Omega makes the tag to “Hangman” Adam Page. Dustin tags QT Marshall in.

The fresh tag-team partners for Omega and Rhodes are now the legal men in the ring. We watch highlights of a headbutt that occurred between Omega and Dustin moments ago as well. QT blasts Page in the bread basket and then hits a picture-perfect drop kick.

QT is looking for here briefly, however a big boot from Page stops his offensive run short. Page tags Omega back in, who hits a springboard knee on the arm of QT before chopping the hell out of him. QT catches Omega coming off the ropes and hits a nice slam / driver before tagging “The Natural” back into the bout.

Dustin whips Omega into the turnbuckle with authority while Tony Schiavone reads a note from Dr. Britt Baker about isolating her ankle and being a role model for being here tonight despite being in so much pain. Dustin continues to work over Omega, going for a pin attempt and getting two before tagging QT in. The two hit a double-team spot.

Now we see the camera pan over to the announce desk where Schiavone is handed another note from Dr. Britt Baker. This one is to inform Schiavone that she doesn’t like his green tie. QT is now the legal man in the ring and he blasts Omega with an elbow in the trap muscle before tagging Dustin back in. Dustin rakes the back of Omega and snapmares him down to the mat, slapping a rear chin lock on him.

Omega starts firing up on offense, however a high back body-drop from Dustin slows Omega’s comeback down a bit. Not for long, however, as he goes over Dustin’s back with the Kitaro Crusher, enabling him to make it to his corner to tag in “Hangman” Adam Page. Dustin tags in QT as well.

Page takes the hot tag and enters the ring like a man possessed, taking out any and everyone that moves. He hits a fall-away slam on QT before executing a nice dive onto Dustin on the floor. He quickly re-enters the ring and hits a sliding lariat for a near fall. He tags Omega back in and Omega looks for the Death Valley Driver. He hits it and then leaps to the corner, jumping off the ropes with a big cross-body splash for a near fall.

Kenny Omega tags Page back in, who blasts QT with a sharp knife-edge chop. He turns to hit Dustin with a cheap shot before turning around into a big back elbow from QT Marshall. He tags in Dustin. “The Natural” takes the hot tag and comes in like a ball of fire, burnnig up everything in sight. He hits a nice turning splash off the top to take out both Page and Omega. He throws both guys out to the floor and hits a cannonball senton on one while QT hits a QT Special from the ring out to the floor on the other.

Back in the ring, QT, now the legal man, hits a turning diving uppercut off the top-rope before nipping up to his feet. He calls for the Diamond Cutter but Omega blocks and hits a Snap-Dragon Suplex. He turns right into a Canadian Destroyer from Dustin, who turns and walks right into a big Lariat from Hangman Page. Hangman turns around into a Diamond Cutter from QT.

All four men are down now as the camera pans over to the entrance way, which shows Allie standing there clapping and cheering QT on. QT sees her and goes to the top rope, but takes a little too long and finds no target on his way down. Now Omega whips Page into QT in the corner. They hit an assisted-German Suplex double-team spot before Dustin breaks up the follow-up pin attempt.

The camera shows a close-up shot of a concerned Allie again watching on providing moral support to QT. Omega hits a running knee to the back of the head of QT and covers him while Page splashes onto Dustin on the floor. Omega only gets two on the pin, however he and Page hit their Last Call double-team finisher and Omega covers QT. 1-2-3. The Elite duo retain the AEW World Tag-Team Championships as Allie watches on looking upset. Highlights are shown of the match while Omega and Page celebrate and Dustin checks on QT while Allie watches on with concern.

Allie comes down to ringside and stands next to a suspicious Brandi Rhodes. That will do it for this week’s AEW Dynamite opening contest.

Winners and STILL AEW World Tag-Team Champions: Kenny Omega & “Hangman” Adam Page

After the opening bout we head to the announce desk where the trio run down the lineup for this week’s show before we head to our first commercial break of the evening.

Anna Jay vs. Abadon

When we return from the break, we see a vignette touting the All Elite Wrestling return of Anna Jay. We then return inside Daily’s Place amphitheater where she makes her way down to the ring.

Out next is another new addition to the AEW women’s division, Abadon, who recently made her AEW debut on AEW DARK. She comes out crawling on her hands and knees with contact lens’ in to make her eyes look crazy, face-paint smeared all over her face and bright dyed red hair.

Jim Ross can’t get over the abnormality of Abadon as she enters the ring. The bell sounds and this one is officially underway. J.R. still can’t get over this Abadon.

Early on, Anna Jay tries going at Abadon with everything she has, but this disturbing lady known as Abadon takes over and culminates her offensive run with a running knee-lift to the dome of Anna Jay before covering her and scoring the pin fall victory to improve to 1-1 in the AEW women’s division.

Winner: Abadon

Once the match ends, Abadon makes crazy faces up close to the camera. She then makes her way to the back as the announcers sing her praises. Now we hear the theme music of The Dark Order. The entire group comes out, led by “The Exalted One” Mr. Brodie Lee.

They all come down to ringside where we watch as Mr. Brodie Lee walks over to Colt Cabana, who is seated at ringside, and hands him a folder with a crazy eyeball decoration on it. Cabana opens the folder and looks at some papers with a confused look on his face.

The camera pans over to Mr. Brodie Lee who is staring at Cabana and watching him react to the papers he was just handed. Now we watch on as The Dark Order members help Anna Jay to her feet and assist her out of the ring and to the back. After this, we head back to another commercial break.

MJF (w/ Wardlow) vs. Billy (w/ Colten & Austin Gunn)

The bell sounds and here we go. Billy goes to work early on, taking it to MJF. MJF finally starts getting in some shots of his own. He hits the ropes and is looking to utilize his speed and quickness to land his shots. This strategy doesn’t work early on with a fresh Billy, as he uses his size-and-strength to dominate MJF.

Finally, MJF appears to have had enough as he exits the ring and begins walking to the back. Billy realizes what Friedman is doing so he sets off after him. As referee Aubrey Edwards makes her count and gets all the way up to nine, finally Billy emerges with MJF over his shoulder like a little boy getting taken to his room without any supper.

Back in the ring, MJF gets too cocky for comfort, turning his back on Billy, who is approaching Friedman and waiting for him to turn around. Although it looked bad for MJF, he managed to avoid the onslaught from the leader of The Gunn Club and takes it to him with knees to the back of the head. MJF takes over completely on offense now as the announcers take us to a mid-match commercial break.

When we return from the split-screen commercial break, we see MJF is still in control of the match and is taking it to Billy. We also learn that MJF softened up and worked over the leg of Billy throughout the break. MJF is still working on the leg of Billy as we re-join the match in progress now.

We’re also informed that Wardlow played a major role in this match completely shifting to MJF’s favor during the break.

Now, for the 100th time in the bout, MJF stops to talk trash to Jurassic Express members Jungle Boy and Marko Stunt, who are watching on from the front row. Now as MJF gets too arrogant for his own good once again, Billy starts firing up and making his comeback on offense. Billy, still selling the softened up leg, is looking for his Fame-Asser finisher, however he instead finds himself locked in a calf-crusher from MJF.

MJF grabs the ropes to gain an unfair advantage until Aubrey uses force to kick MJF’s hands off the ropes. This breaks the hold and leads to MJF getting in Aubrey’s face. He turns around to Billy grabbing him by the throat. MJF kicks him in the gut and tries hitting Billy’s own Fame-Asser, however Billy used his strength to power out of it. Wardlow jumps on the ring apron and provides the distraction and passes the Dynamite Ring to MJF.

Billy goes out and blasts Wardlow on the floor. He re-enters the ring and walks right into the knockout punch from the loaded right hand of MJF, which had the Dynamite Diamond Ring on it. He covers Billy and scores the 1-2-3 and the victory.

Winner: MJF

Once the match ends, all hell breaks loose when MJF was headed to the back with Wardlow, stopping to get in the face of Jurassic Express.

Jungle Boy takes his shirt off and jumps the guard rail. They get into a pull apart which leads to everyone jumping the rail and many of the talent in the locker room coming down to ringside to try and help restore order.

Jim Ross kicks it to Alex Marvez, who is standing by backstage with Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara — Le Sex Gods of The Inner Circle. They brag about taking out Orange Cassidy last week before vowing to become the new number one contenders to the AEW Tag-Team Titles when they defeat The Best Friends here tonight on AEW Dynamite.

Now we kick it to Tony Schiavone, who is standing outside the Rollys Royce wheel chair / golf cart of Dr. Britt Baker. Before interviewing Baker, he announces that it is now confirmed that Hikaru Shida will defend her AEW Women’s Championship against Penelope Ford at the upcoming AEW FYTER FEST two-week extravaganza. This news upsets Baker, who tells Schiavone he just lost an interview with her because of it. She demands Reba drive her away in a huff, only to discover that Big Swole has gotten rid of Reba and has taken over the wheel of the Rollys Royce of wheel chairs. “Where to?” she says, before driving off as Baker looks and sounds terrified.

TNT Championship (Open Challenge)
“The American Nightmare” Cody vs. Ricky Starks

Cody has a mic as we return. He is standing aside the head coach of The Nightmare Family — Arn Anderson. Cody questions if he is even a member of The Elite after none of The Elite members came to his aid during last week’s attack by Jake Hager.

He says he didn’t come here to talk, however, he came here for his weekly TNT Championship Open Challenge. With that said he hands the mic off to Double A. As he talks, we see Jake Hager watching on via a monitor backstage. Anderson says he knows Cody wants Hager, but timing is everything and it’s not time for that.

“The Enforcer” goes on to reveal who will face Cody in this week’s TNT Championship Open Challenge contest. With that said we watch a video promo air featuring former NWA TV Champion Ricky Starks. He talks about hearing how the Open Challenge for the TNT Title has been extended to those outside of AEW, and that is why he is here.

With that said, some music plays and out comes Ricky Starks as Excalibur sings his praises and schools fans who might be unaware of Starks of some of his many accomplishments.

Now the formal pre-match introductions are handled by Justin Roberts for this, our second championship contest of the evening. Before the bell sounds we see Hager watching on again from a monitor backstage. Back in the arena, the bell sounds and Cody and Starks lock up. Starks grabs an arm of the champ and wrenches it behind him. Cody shoves Starks down to the mat.

Starks pops up complaining about a hair pull. Cody drops to his back and throws up an uppercut at the grill of Starks. “Absolute” Starks isn’t having that, as he slaps Cody to the surprise of the commentators who say he came here to take care of business tonight. Meanwhile, all that did was piss off the champion, who has completely taken over on offense since. He knocks Starks out to the floor and runs and dives out after him, taking him out with a tope suicida.

Back in the ring, Cody blasts Starks with a big kick to the face before Starks slams Cody into / on the middle and bottom ropes at an awkward angle. He follows up choking Cody with the bottom rope and then blasting him with a leg drop on the ring apron, ala The Undertaker. Starks chokes Cody with the middle rope now, taunting Arn Anderson who is watching on right outside those very same ring ropes. Starks hits a big DDT for a near fall.

Cody starts taking over on offense. He is taking it to Starks with a variety of offense. He hits a picture-perfect vertical suplex. He goes to the top-rope to capitalize, however Starks ends up recovering and going up after him. Now both men are on the top-rope. Starks hooks Cody’s tights and the two go for a ride. Starks blasts Cody with an excellent super-plex off the top-rope, which we see several immediate replays of.

Starks hits a crazy dive onto Cody on the floor now as we see Jake Hager is still watching on from backstage on a monitor. Back in the ring, Cody is waiting on Starks to get up as we see yet another shot of Hager watching on. Cody and Starks with a wild punching exchange. Starks cuts a Cody follow-up move short and hits what looks to be a potential finisher, which Cody somehow kicks out of. Now the two trade pin attempts over-and-over again, with neither man able to finish off the other until Cody finally catches Starks with his Cross-Rhodes finisher. He covers him and scores the pin as we once again see Hager watching the monitor backstage.

Winner and STILL TNT Champion: “The American Nightmare” Cody

The Superbad Squad vs. The Young Bucks

The Superbad Squad make their way out now. Kip Sabian, accompanied by Penelope Ford, is joined by his tag-team partner Jimmy Havoc for this next match, which will be contested in the AEW tag-team division. J.R. refers to The Superbad Squad as one of the most promising tag-teams in All Elite Wrestling right now.

Making their way out now are the opponents for Sabian and Havoc this week, and that is the other duo from The Elite — The Young Bucks. Nick and Matt Jackson make their way down to the ring for our next contest. The bell sounds and here we go.

Havoc and Jackson kick things off after the camera shows us that the referee found a weapon stashed on Havoc during the pre-match pat-down. Excalibur says that’s why they have them.

After establishing the early offensive lead, The Young Bucks make a tag and hit a series of tandem offensive moves, culminating with double-dives in stereo onto Sabian and Havoc on the floor. The Young Bucks take a moment to talk with The Butcher and The Blade who are in the front row.

Back in the ring, The Young Bucks lure Sabian in, only to blast him in a quick comedy spot. Sabian quickly runs over and tags Havoc in. The Young Bucks get the better of him too and go back to hitting some double team moves, including a double back-flipping neck-breaker.

Nick Jackson gets on the ropes and talks more trash to The Butcher and The Blade. They hop the rail and get on the ring apron. Jackson, distracted by this, is blasted from behind by Havoc with a foreign object. Havoc then tags in Sabian as J.R. takes us to a mid-match commercial.

Back from the break and we once again see The Butcher and The Blade looking to get involved until FTR make their way out, where they appear to be evening the numbers game back into a fair level.

FTR hang out at ringside, as do The Butcher and The Blade, while Sabian continues to work over Jackson in the ring. Sabian tags Havoc in who hits two dropkicks to the face of a seated Jackson in the heel corner of the ring. He then tags Sabian right back in.

Sabian gets in a couple of shots and then tags Havoc back in. Havoc goes to work on Jackson, choking him with his own hair. Now we see Sabian springboard up to the top rope from the ring apron, only for Matt Jackson to counter by hitting a top-rope seated power bomb. This allows him to finally make the tag to Nick Jackson.

Nick takes the hot tag and is flying all over the place, taking out The Superbad Squad by himself. He hits a standing leap to the top-rope, single leap to the top turnbuckle before flying out onto Havoc on the ring apron. Back in the ring, he locks Sabian in a Boston Crab. Havoc comes in with a hammer / wallet, which brings the referee over, allowing Penelope Ford to blast Jackson from behind with a foreign object.

The Superbad Squad try and capitalize for the win, however the other Young Buck makes it in to break things up just in time. Havoc and Sabian hit another nice double-team move before Sabian climbs to the top rope. We see Sabian’s ear bleeding all down his chest. Jackson hits a nice Northern Lights Suplex. Jackson has Havoc in a surfboard submission type move up in the air while the other Young Buck hits a big splash off the top.

The Young Bucks hit another nice double-team move for a near fall. As The Young Bucks look for another big double-team move, we see FTR and the duo of The Butcher and The Blade square off at ringside on the floor right below them. Sabian and Havoc take back over on offense and they are now hitting double team moves. Things settle down briefly before The Young Bucks make a tag. Both Nick and Matt hit super kicks on both guys. They score the pin.

Winners: The Young Bucks

As soon as the pin is scored, all hell breaks loose in the ring with The Young Bucks, The Superbad Squad, FTR and The Butcher & The Blade. They brawl all over the ring until finally FTR and The Young Bucks each take out the other two teams and are the last four men standing to end the segment.

We shoot to a pre-taped message from Taz and Brian Cage. The two are in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, New York with a message for AEW World Champion Jon Moxley.

Taz calls Moxley a no-good son of a bitch after bringing up comments Moxley had the nerve to make about them on last week’s show. Brian Cage takes over the verbal lead in the segment, telling Taz he’s got this.

He goes on to state that he wishes it was FYTER FEST now so he could get his hands on Moxley. The two go on to again promise that at AEW FYTER FEST, Cage is going to tear Moxley apart and capture gold in the process.

We head to a commercial break.

When we return from the break, we see a pre-taped message from Jon Moxley to his opponent at FYTER FEST — Brian Cage.

Moxley talks about Cage going from winning some gimmick ladder match to thinking he can run with the world champion and the man who makes heads roll around AEW.

He says he only entered the pro wrestling business because he has demons and the only time those are at bay is when he is kicking the crap out of someone. He tells Cage that he’ll see him at FYTER FEST and to beat him if he can, and to survive — only if he’s the type who can hang and stil be in there when he’s dragged into deep water. Moxley closes the promo out flipping Taz’s old catchphrase back on him.

Now we shoot over to the announce trio of Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone and Excalibur. The AEW Dynamite commentary team run down some of the matches scheduled for next week’s AEW on TNT show, as well as some of the action on tap for the upcoming AEW FYTER FEST two-week extravaganza.

We shoot to an update on Dr. Britt Baker, who we last saw being driven away against her will in the Rolls Royce of wheel-chairs by Big Swole.

Baker is found by her assistant Reba in a dumpster, and she is pissed. She tells Reba this is all her fault and to get out of here because she’s fired. Reba asks if this means she is now free. Baker freaks out and says no, you’re re-hired and to get her out of here. She goes on to deliver a warning to Big Swole for attacking her tonight. She then demands Reba help her out again after asking where Tony Schiavone is as well.

Matt Hardy Joins AEW Commentary For Tonight’s Main Event

We shoot back inside the Daily’s Place amphitheater in Jacksonville, Florida, where Matt Hardy’s music plays and he makes his way out. He joins J.R., Schiavone and Excalibur on commentary for tonight’s main event.

AEW Tag-Team Title No. 1 Contender Match
Le Sex Gods vs. The Best Friends

With that said, Hardy takes a seat with the announce trio. J.R. asks which version of Matt Hardy he is right now. Hardy says it’s the same one J.R. first signed all those years ago. J.R. says it’s good to have him and then we shoot back down to the ring.

Chris Jericho’s familiar theme music plays now as he and his Le Sex Gods tag-team partner — “The Spanish God” Sammy Guevara — make their way out. Guevara zings around in circles on his scooter while they are introduced and then Guevara begins — badly, but hilariously — singing Jericho’s theme song lyrics. J.R. says they’re going to salvage our ears and we head to a break before tonight’s main event officially gets underway.

We’re back from the break and we witness the ring entrance of The Best Friends. They make their way down to the ring to a nice reaction from the audience at ringside for this week’s show. The announcers remind us that this match features The Best Friends putting their AEW FYTER FEST tag-team title shot on-the-line in hopes of gaining revenge over The Inner Circle for their violent assault of “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy on last week’s show.

Chuck is taking it to Jericho here in the early goings as the bell sounds to kick off this week’s main event. Chuck continues taking it to Jericho until finally “Le Champion” buys himself some time and tags in Guevara.

“The Spanish God” of The Inner Circle enters the ring and establishes offensive control over Chuck Taylor before tagging “Le Champion” back in. Jericho comes back in now and has his way with Chuck while Matt Hardy actually puts over Guevara as the future of AEW on commentary, and informing the fans that he’ll allow Sammy to pick which version of Matt Hardy that he faces on next week’s AEW Dynamite show.

Speaking of Guevara, Jericho tags him back in, however Chuck also makes the tag to the fresh Trent. Trent comes in and immediately starts taking it to Guevara, beating down The Inner Circle member as the pace of the action picks up and the noise from those at ringside picks up along with it.

Trent drop-kicks Jericho out to the floor but when he tries diving out onto Jericho for the follow-up, he is met by Floyd — the baseball bat of “Le Champion” — on his way down. Trent sells his knee from the bat shot as Jericho sneaks the bat away and J.R. takes us to a mid-match, split-screen commercial break.

When we return from the break, we see Jericho firmly in control of the action inside the ring, dominating Trent as the announcers point out that it has been all Le Sex Gods in this one after Jericho turned the offensive tide before the break by using Floyd for a cheap baseball bat shot to the leg of Trent.

Jericho and Sammy hit the mat to do a double Sex-Gods pose, however this display of arrogance leads to the two losing control of the match, as Trent makes a much-needed tag to Chuck Taylor. Taylor takes the hot tag and starts blasting both members of The Inner Circle.

He gets Jericho out of the way and goes to work on Guevara, the legal man, along with some assistance by Trent. They go to culminate their double-team offense with a highly-anticipated Best Friends hug, however “Le Champion” watched on from ringside and waited for the perfect moment to hit the ring and turn the tide back in the favor of Le Sex Gods.

Jericho ends up locking Trent up in the Walls of Jericho on his hurt leg which was softened up by Floyd earlier on. Meanwhile, Guevara hits a crazy dive onto Chuck on the floor. Trent manages to make it to the ropes to break the hold.

The Best Friends hit a double-team assisted super-plex off the top-rope on Guevara for a near fall. Jericho gets involved from the floor, breaking up another double-team spot planned by The Best Friends.

Now Chuck and Jericho are battling on the floor. Chuck grabs a steel chair, but the ref stops him, which allows Jericho to take him out. Now the camera pans to the ring where we see Guevara blast Trent again with Floyd — the baseball bat of The Inner Circle. He follows that up with his crazy turning-flip high-spot off the top-rope. He covers Trent, but somehow he manages to kick out at two. Moments later, Trent blasts Guevara and hooks his legs on the mat while seated on his mid-section. 1-2-3. Trent scores the pin and gets the win.

Winners: The Best Friends

Once he scores the pin, Trent and Chuck roll out to the floor as The Best Friends music plays. With their win over Le Sex Gods, the duo of Chuck Taylor and Trent keep their AEW Tag-Team Championship title-shot and will challenge Kenny Omega and “Hangman” Adam Page at AEW FYTER FEST.

While The Best Friends music plays, we see a camera man set down a camera and begin disrobing to reveal himself to be none other than “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy.

Cassidy reveals his identity and then quietly and calmly, as always, waits for Jericho. Jericho turns around right into a huge shot from Cassidy. And another. Cassidy knocks Jericho out of the ring with one final shot as the announcers question whether or not the last blow broke Jericho’s jaw.

The Best Friends — Chuck Taylor and Trent — re-enter the ring as their music plays again and they celebrate their victory with “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy. The two close-in for a big Best Friends hug as this week’s AEW Dynamite goes off the air.
