Edge vs. Randy Orton is Now Official for WWE Backlash

Edge vs. Randy Orton is now official for WWE Backlash.

Orton and Edge opened tonight’s RAW episode on the USA Network and the match was confirmed as Edge accepted Orton’s challenge from last week. The match will be a regular wrestling match with no stipulations or gimmicks.

Here is a recap of the segment from our live coverage:

Charly Caruso asks Randy to explain the challenge he made.

Randy asks if straight up match is that hard to understand. Wrestling is the basis of this company. We come into this ring for the chance to be part of Wrestlemania. We had a match at Wrestlemania in this building. On that night, Edge was the better man. Randy says he knows that beyond the shadow of a doubt, Edge knows he is not the better wrestler. Randy says he does not need chairs, tables, or anything else to win. He just needs a referee and a ring. Randy says that no one can do what he does in the ring like he does, not even Edge.

Randy tells Edge he knows why you didn’t accept my challenge last Monday on Raw. Randy says he saw it written on Edge’s face and he saw it in Edge’s eyes. He saw doubt. Your grit and passion has faded away. It is gone and what once was grit and passion is now just doubt. and fear.

Edge’s music plays and he makes his way to the ring.

Edge tells Randy you spoke a lot of truths last week and it gave him a lot to chew on and contemplate. You are playing a game of chess, so Edge says he can’t rush into the next move. That is all it is to you. It is a game. You stand there with your stupid smug smirk. It is just a paycheck to you. You are probably the most talented person he has seen in a wrestling ring, but this isn’t the life you wanted, it was the life you were handed. It was your backup plan. You are different than everyone else in the locker room because you don’t care. You didn’t go to bed every night dreaming of being WWE Champion, LIKE I DID. You didn’t save your money to go to a show, LIKE I DID. You didn’t cry when you won the Intercontinental Championship.

Edge says he beat Randy for that title in 2004 and it was one of his favorite matches. Edge says their skills have changed since then. Randy starts to talk and Edge cuts him off and says you didn’t have a career ending injury and miss nine years. Randy wants to know if Edge will accept his challenge. Edge yells at him and says yes, he accepts and drops the mic. Orton puts his down and nods at Edge. Orton makes his exit, staring at Edge while backing up the ramp. Edge’s music hits as Byron confirms the match.

The 2020 WWE Backlash pay-per-view will take place on June 14, reportedly from the closed-set WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL.

Orton vs. Edge is the only Backlash match officially announced as of this writing. Stay tuned for updates on the card.
