WWE’s announcement that Goldberg will return this Friday on SmackDown has fueled speculation on who will be next, as the WWE Hall of Famer is not someone who shows up without purpose.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, it was speculated that Golberg’s appearance will lead to a match against a wrestler of Smackdown at WWE Super ShowDown later in the month as one would normally expect him to return on RAW, especially considering one of his biggest supporters is Paul Heyman.
A couple of names that were thrown out there included Bray Wyatt and King Corbin and while logic would seem to suggest a rematch against The Undertaker is off the table, it is still possible WWE will try that again. A name we personally heard, is Dolph Ziggler for what would be a SummerSlam rematch. Last summer, Ziggler eased some of the heartache big Bill carried around after his disastrous Jeddah nightmare with The Undertaker, so it would make sense.
Nonetheless, it is expected that on Friday Night Smackdown, a clear direction will be obvious if the opponent himself is not revealed.
