‘The Latina Sensation’ Mercedes Martinez has reportedly signed a contract with WWE and, according to SoCal UNCENSORED, she is expected to report to the WWE Performance Center later this month.
Martinez was trained by Jason Knight and made her wrestling debut in 2000. She has wrestled in many promotions like Shimmer, Ring of Honor, World Xtreme Wrestling, Women Superstars Uncensored, Beyond Wrestling, and is the current AWS Heavyweight Champion. She is a two-time Mae Young competitor and wrestled in NXT on several occasions. Martinez was also part of AEW’s Casino Battle Royale at All Out.
Sports Illustrated listed her on their Top 10 Women Wrestlers of 2019.
There has been no official word on this announcement as of yet, but AWS promoter, Bart Kapitzke, seemingly confirmed the reports when he advised SoCal UNCENSORED that he would likely have a tournament to crown a new champion. We will report any further news as and when it arrives.
