One of the open spot remaining for Sunday’s 30-Man Royal Rumble Match may be filled by a former WWE Intercontinental Champion.
Mike Johnson said on PW Insider Elite that he has been able to confirm with multiple sources that Santino Marella will be in Houston for the big event.
Since we didn’t hear anything on him making any autograph appearances in the area, that could mean that Santino will be one of the surprise entrants for the Men’s Rumble match. He could also be in town to film material for the WWE Network since WWE tends to film content on the weekend of their biggest shows.
Since his departure from WWE a few years ago, Marella has made some appearances for the company, including a stint as a guest coach at the Performance Center in Orlando and there has been talk of launching an NXT Canada brand with Marella being discussed as a name to run the facility. Marella also won the coveted title of “Miss WrestleMania” at the 25 Diva Battle Royal while 70,000 fans watched inside Reliant Stadium at WrestleMania 25. That event also took place in Houston.
Santino Marella holds the record for the shortest time spent in a single Royal Rumble with 0:00:01 in 2009.
