WWE won’t be airing a Tribute to the Troops special on television this year (spoiler results at this link).
The 17th annual WWE Tribute to the Troops celebration was held Friday, December 6 at Marine Corps Air Station New River and Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. Prior to the show, WWE sent out a press release touting the show but didn’t disclose broadcast details as the show as historically aired on the USA Network for the last few years.
Dave Meltzer noted at the end of the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE did the show but didn’t tape it. It was basically a live event for the troops. Meltzer doesn’t have a reason as to why the show isn’t airing on television this year but guessed that the USA Network didn’t want it.
“So they taped — I shouldn’t say taped — they did Tribute To The Troops Friday at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. It was not taped for television. There is no Tribute To The Troops television show this year.”
“Nothing else, they sent people you know and did their thing. For whatever reason the USA Network didn’t want the show. I don’t have an answer. I mean it’s been on television for god knows how many years — it feels like forever. So I was really surprised when I heard that.”
