Former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz took on former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio in the main event of Combate Americas‘ first pay-per-view event.
Alberto was accompanied by former WWE star Chavo Guerrero. To make things interesting, Alberto put up a replica WWE Championship and Tito put up a replica UFC Championship. Tito walked out to “Real American” and he had a shirt on that said “Living The Dream” with the logo similar to the WWF Saturday Night’s Main Event logo.
It wasn’t El Patron’s first foray into cagefighting, as he came into the bout with nine victories and five losses under his belt. However, the experience of Ortiz proved to be too much for the Mexican wrestling legend. Ortiz immediately took down El Patron and got into side control. El Patron worked his way back to his feet, but Ortiz quickly took him down again and started landing elbows. “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” kept the pressure on the pro wrestler and took his back. He then sunk in a rear-naked choke for the win in the very first round.
They did a post-fight interview in the cage but the camera panned away for some reason and the announcers talked over the interview. There were production issues throughout the night on this show.
There was another pro wrestling star on the show. Former Lucha Underground/AAA wrestler Sexy Star” Dulce Garcia defeated Anali Lopez with a guillotine choke submission to earn her second MMA victory.
