WWE Smackdown Results (11/29) - Birmingham, AL

We are live from the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, AL, as Roman Reigns makes his way to the ring to start tonght’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown.

Reigns gets a pop when taking the mic. He knows it’s a day late but if you have leftovers in the refrigerator, then it’s still the day. He wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. He goes on about having family and good health this year, and says it’s an absolute blessing. He thanks everyone and fans cheer him on. Reigns says he has a lot to be thankful for because Team SmackDown kicked some ass at Survivor Series. Reigns says he didn’t do it on his own. A chant for WWE NXT starts to break out. Some fans boo Reigns. Reigns says it’s all WWE, it’s all 1, but NXT didn’t get the job done like SmackDown did. Team NXT actually dominated the night. Reigns goes on to thank his partners – Shorty G, Mustafa Ali and Braun Strowman. He says they had 1 dummy on the team and we know who it was. Reigns wants to bring the dummy out to apologize and fans agree. The music hits and out comes King Baron Corbin.

Corbin says Roman thinks he should come out and apologize. Baron says it was his fearless leadership that won it for Smackdown. He eliminated two people before you selfishly got him eliminated. You had some ulterior motives and your ego couldn’t accept the fact that he would win and be the sole survivor.

Roman reminds Baron he didn’t. He gave Baron a Superman punch and spear and you were eliminated. You can try to get the job done tonight in the ring in Birmingham.

Baron says Roman doesn’t have him fooled like the fans. You are an egomaniac who is a step behind. Baron says with this lack of respect, he will tell you what Thanksgiving was like for a King. He had the finest turkey and wine with servants serving him. Baron says he expected that Roman’s wife burned your turkey but you couldn’t tell. Baron says he is thankful he doesn’t have to put on a fake smile and live in this part of the country where the foot is worse than the football. You want a fight? Why not fight someone else who was victorious on Sunday? Robert Roode. Baron says he thinks Roman will be taken out of the building on a stretcher and it will be GLORIOUS!

Ziggler and Roode make their way to the ring as we go to commercial.

Robert Roode vs. Roman Reigns

They lock up and Roode with a side head lock. Roode sends Roman to the mat. They lock up and Roode with a side head lock. Roman with a top wrist lock into a reversal and shoulder tackle. Roode rolls to the floor and Corbin and Ziggler discuss strategy with Roode. Roode gets back into the ring and he punches Roman while Roman is distracted by Ziggler. Roode with kicks to Roman. Roman blocks a punch and punches Roode. Roman sends Roode to the floor in front of Corbin and Ziggler. Roman goes to the floor for a Drive By and hits it.

Roman and Baron get face to face and Baron backs up and Ziggler stays away from Roman. Roman sends Roode into the ring and Ziggler grabs the leg. Roode with a shoulder tackle to knock Roman off the apron followed by a spinebuster onto the announce table. Roode sends Roman into the ringside barrier. Roode punches Roman and Irish whips him into the ringside barrier.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Roode with an Irish whip but Roman with clotheslines and a flying clothesline. Roman with Neverending Story. Roman with a running boot to the head. Roman sets for the Superman punch and Ziggler gets on the apron. Roode avoids Roman and gets a near fall with a rollup. Roode with boots to Roman followed by a blockbuster for a near fall. Roode winds up for the GLORIOUS DDT but Roman counters with a rollup into a one arm sit out power bomb and a near fall. Roman sets for a Superman punch but Ziggler pulls Roode out of the ring. Roman with a Superman punch to Ziggler off the steps when Roode moves. Roode sends Roman into the ring post and then the ring steps.

Roode goes to the turnbuckles and is met with a Superman punch but Roode kicks out. Roman sets for the spear and Roode with a spinebuster for a near fall. Corbin gives Roode the scepter and Corbin gets on the apron to distract the referee. Roode has the scepter but Roman with an uppercut to Roode and a Superman punch to Corbin and a spear for the three count.

Winner: Roman Reigns

After the match, Reigns stands tall as his music hits. Ziggler suddenly attacks Reigns from behind and beats him down. Ziggler cranks up for the superkick now but Reigns catches it and turns it into a Samoan Drop. Ziggler retreats to the floor. Corbin comes in but Reigns blocks him and sends him into the corner. Roode comes in with a scepter shot to the back, dropping Reigns. Roode mounts Reigns as fans boo. Roode goes to the timekeeper’s area for a steel chair. He brings it in as Corbin watches from the ramp. Roode enters the ring with the chair. He stands the chair up and grabs the scepter. Roode grabs Reigns and puts his head down on the seat of the chair. Roode yells in Reigns’ face and goes to hit him wit the scepter but Reigns moves and knocks him out of the ring with a Superman Punch. Corbin watches from the ramp. Reigns looks at the chair and sees how the scepter put a big dent in it. That does something emotionally to Reigns. He exits the ring and runs around, driving Reigns through the barrier. Reigns snaps on Roode and throws part of the barrier at him then throws some of the announcer chairs on top of that. Reigns grabs half of the steel steps and swings them at Ziggler as he approaches, knocking him over the barrier for another pop. Reigns powers up and lifts the announce table up, flipping it over on Roode and the other debris he’s under. Reigns’ music hits as he checks out the destruction with Roode. Corbin looks on and Reigns looks back at him.

– We are back and Michael Cole mentions that Robert Roode is being taken out of the building on a stretcher.

– A video recap of what happened between The Fiend and Daniel Bryan at Survivor Series.

Firefly FunHouse:

We go to the Firefly Fun House. Bray Wyatt welcomes everyone and he says he hopes everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving around their family and friends. Bray says he has a lot to be thankful for and sharing is caring. If he has one, it is only fair that HE has one too. Bray says he had a blast playing with Daniel Bryan at Survivor Series and he wants to do it again. He asks the fireflies if they want to see him and Daniel play again. If Daniel wants to join in the fun, he can make Daniel’s wish come true. He can make it all change for the better. All Daniel has to do is let him in. Bray says goodbye to everyone.

– Mustafa Ali makes his way to the ring as we go to commercial.

Backstage:

We are back and Sheamus says Smackdown used to be the land of opportunity. He has had some time to survey the brand. He says it is pathetic. All he sees are cowards and misfits. A king, a clown, a shorty G. No one hungry and no one with a backbone. No one like him. Sheamus says Smackdown has become soft and it is time for the Celtic Warrior to come back. Smackdown will be his.

Mustafa Ali vs. Drew Gulak

They lock up and Drew with forearms. Drew is not impressed with Ali’s acrobatics but Ali iwth a drop kick. Drew sends Ali into the turnbuckles. Gulak with head butts to the midsection. Ali with a kick and uppercut. Ali goes to the turnbuckles but Gulak tosses Ali to the mat. Ali counters a belly-to-back suplex into a lateral press for a near fall. Gulak with a single leg crab on Ali. Ali with a super kick and he gets a near fall. Gulak keeps Ali from getting to the turnbuckles. Ali kicks Gulak into the turnbuckles and hits a tornado DDT. Ali with a 450 splash for the three count.

Winner: Mustafa Ali

– Back from the break and Daniel Bryan is shown backstage walking around.

– The announcers show us highlights from the women’s action at WWE Survivor Series.

– We go to the ring and out first comes SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley. She waits as Sasha Banks makes her way out next.

In the Arena:

Banks says let’s get one thing clear – they didn’t come out here for a “rah rah speech” because you can leave that to RAW. Banks wants to talk about what happened at Survivor Series. She and Bayley go on making excuses about Sunday’s pay-per-view, saying Team WWE NXT is not better. Bayley says SmackDown lost because the entire locker room let them down. They go on taking shots at the individual SmackDown Superstars. Banks rants about how Carmella will never be as rich as she is. Bayley rants about Lacey Evans. Banks says the entire women’s division makes her sick. The music interrupts and out comes Evans.

Evans enters the ring and warns Bayley and Banks. She goes on and says it’s time that we get a real woman to be the locker room leader. Evans goes on about her qualities as a “Lacey Evans!” chant breaks out. Evans taunts them for tapping out when Banks gets in her face, running her mouth. Evans drops Banks with a Woman’s Right. Bayley just looks at her and does nothing. Evans exits the ring as Bayley checks on Banks. Evans marches up the ramp as her music hits. Bayley looks on from the ring as Evans taunts her from the stage.

Backstage:

We see Daniel Bryan thinking backstage. Kayla Braxton asks if he’s ready to answer the challenge from WWE Universal Champion Bray Wyatt. We cut to a Firefly Fun House segment. Bray Wyatt walks up on Huskus The Pig Boy, who ate too much at Thanksgiving dinner. He will only be better when Bryan plays with them again. Wyatt tells Huskus everything he knows about Thanksgiving is a lie. He goes on about a bizarre Thanksgiving story that leads to a new “Muscle Man” music video, which will show you how to be “phat” again. Huskus raps as “Muscle Man” Wyatt dances to a 80’s hip-hop beat. The Fiend flashes in a few times as we see Bryan watching backstage on a TV screen. Wyatt just wants to be let in. He screams about not letting The Reptilians in or they will take over. Wyatt wants to be let in, The Fiend wants to be let in. Let him in. The segment abruptly ends. Kayla is backstage with Bryan as we hear a “yes!” chant coming from the crowd. Kayla asks Bryan if he’s up for the challenge and he just stares off. We go to commercial.

Bayley and Sasha Banks walk in the back as we go to commercial.

Sonya Deville vs. Nikki Cross

Before the match starts, Mandy says she doesn’t like to make fun of the way people look, but look at her. She looks like the cold plate of Thanksgiving leftovers.

Sonya with a punch to Nikki followed by knees. Sonya with a round kick to the chest and a sliding knee for a near fall. Sonya with a rear chin lock. Nikki with a jaw breaker and head butt. Nikki with a double thrust to the throat. Nikki with a splash into the corner followed by a bulldog. Nikki goes to the turnbuckles and Mandy gets on the apron and Nikki is stopped by Sonya and she press slams Nikki to the mat. Nikki with an inside cradle for the three count.

Winner: Nikki Cross

After teh match, Mandy and Sonya attack Nikki. Sonya with a kick and Mandy with a knee. Alexa Bliss’ music plays and she takes care of Sonya and then she slaps Mandy. Nikki and Alexa with a double DDT.

Backstage:

Daniel Bryan is in the locker room with Miz. Miz says he is not Daniel’s friend or mentor. Daniel might not want to listen to him, but look at what happened to Finn Balor and Seth Rollins after a match with the Fiend. It is tempting to go after the Universal Title, but is it worth it. MIz asks Daniel if he knows how important Daniel is to Smackdown or the locker room. We can’t afford to lose you. Your family can’t afford to… Daniel looks at Miz and Miz shuts up and leaves. We go to commercial.

Backstage:

Back from the break and Dana Brooke is backstage smiling and texting on her phone. Drake Maverick walks up in a suit and tries to kiss her under mistletoe but she’s disgusted by him. Brooke also asks about Drake’s marriage. He says it’s complicated. The guitar suddenly starts playing as Elias comes walking through the back, making his return. Elias takes a few shots at Drake, talks about being back, and sings a new song as Dana dances.

In the Arena:

We go to the ring and out first comes SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day – Kofi Kingston and Big E. They hit the ring as fans chant for them. Kofi and Big E go on about Thanksgiving and Black Friday, and opening their doors for tonight’s Open Challenge. The music interrupts and out comes WWE Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro with Sami Zayn.

Sami takes the mic and tells The New Day to shut up. He’s sick of them glamorizing a holiday like Thanksgiving and then Black Friday. Fans start to boo Sami as he goes on from the stage. Sami shames everyone for participating in the holiday. He says it’s time that the SmackDown Tag Team Titles are held by men who can see past the nonsense, which is why Cesaro and Nakamura are here to answer the bell tonight. Nakamura’s music starts back up as they head to the ring and we go to commercial.

Open Challenge for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles: Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura vs. The New Day

Cesaro and Kofi start things off and Cesaro with a shoulder tackle. Kofi with a jumping back elbow for a near fall. Cesaro with a knee to the midsection and Nakamura tags in and kicks Kofi. Nakamura with punches and knees. Nakamura with an Irish whip and monkey flip but Kofi lands on his feet. Kofi with a drop kick for a near fall. Nakamura with forearms to Kofi and he runs into an elbow. Kofi goes to the turnbuckles but Nakamura pulls Kofi off the turnbuckles. Nakamura puts Kofi on the top turnbuckle and Nakamura with a running knee for a near fall. Cesaro tags in and hits a gutwrench suplex for a near fall. Cesaro with a reverse chin lock. Nakamura tags in and he kicks Kofi in the midsection.

Nakamura with a forearm but Kofi wit punches to get out of the corner. Kofi is sent to the apron and he kicks Cesaro off the apron. Sami pulls Kofi off the apron and Cesaro with a running European uppercut that sends Kofi onto the announce table.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Nakamura and Big E tag in. Big E with two overhead belly-to-belly suplexes. Big E with another belly-to-belly suplex. Big E with a gyrating Warrior Splash but Nakamura moves. Nakamura with knees to Big E. Nakamura with an Irish whip but Big E with a UranagE for a near fall. Big E gets Nakamura up but Nakamura escapes and he kicks Big E in the head. Cesaro tags in and Nakamura with a kick and Cesaro wtih a diving head butt for a near fall. Cesaro sets for a Gotch Style Neutralizer but Big E with a back body drop and Cesaro lands on his feet. Nakamura tags in and Cesaro is sent to the floor. Kofi tags in and Kofi with a double stomp off the turnbuckles for a near fall.

Cesaro and Kofi go over the top rope and Kofi skins the cat. Big E sends Kofi over the top rope but Cesaro with a European uppercut. Cesaro with a European uppercut to Big E. Nakamura and Kingston are sent back into the ring. Nakamura sets for Kinshasa but Kofi with a rollup. Nakamura with a round kick and he hits a sliding knee for a near fall that is broken up by Big E. Cesaro sends Big E into the ring post shuolder first and then Cesaro is tagged in. Cesaro with uppercuts in the corner. Kofi with a pendulum kick and he tries for Trouble in Paradise but Cesaro catches him and hot shots Kofi. Sami tries to use the pancake platter but the referee sees Sami try to use it and the referee sends Sami to the back.

Cesaro turns around into Trouble in Paradise for the three count.

Winners: Kofi Kingston and Big E

– We take a look back at what happened after the match between Robert Roode and Roman Reigns.

– Daniel Bryan walks in the back as we go to commercial.

In the Arena:

Daniel says Bray Wyatt told him that if he wanted another title match, all he had to do was let him in. A lot of people gave him unsolicited advise, including the Miz who told him not to do it because The Fiend will change you. Daniel says he walked into his match against the Fiend the most scared. In the middle of the match, Daniel says he felt changed. Daniel was not changed because of the Fiend, but because of you. That showed him who he had to be the whole time.

Daniel says he has said the Yes Movement is dead, but maybe you guys brought it back to life. So, Daniel has one question for you. Bray Wyatt challenged him to a title match. Does he accept? The crowd chants Yes.

Daniel joins in with the crowd and Yeses.

We go back to the Firefly Fun House. Bray says the Miz is right. If you go through with this, you will change. Remove your mask and show your true form. It is only fair because you made me change. You helped me build this place. Do you remember? HE certainly does. Bray says he almost forgot the best part. He promised a new face tonight. Bray says he is a man of his word.

The lights start going down in the arena as they do when The Fiend is approaching. The red light comes over the arena. The Fiend suddenly appears from a hole in the ring.

The Fiend grabs Bryan and tries pulling him under the ring. Bryan resists and fights but The Fiend applies the Mandible Claw and won’t give up. The Fiend puts Bryan under the ring and struggles for a few seconds. He comes up with clumps of Bryan’s hair. He goes back under and manhandles Bryan some more, coming back up with more chunks of hair. Wyatt keeps pulling chunks of hair from under the ring, presumably from Bryan’s head, and putting them on the apron. SmackDown goes off the air as The Fiend looks up from the hole in the ring and laughs.
